2 It was great to hear from David Jenkin regarding his view on the refugee status. Makes you wonder who is telling the truth and who's just talking to the wind. As a mere tax paying subject I guess we will never know. Leave it to more intelligent people than us. Great big thanks to Glen Morgan for her 3 minutes of fame with introducing herself to the club. A lot of experience to be tapped into at some time. Welcome Glen. Bob Dahl was held up with long suffering meetings so was unable to catch up with us. Hope to see and hear from you next week Bob. Thanks to Camilla for bringing us up to date with the help her small team of Nomads was able to extend to the DIK packing project last weekend. Sounds like it was much appreciated. What can we say Marion, well presented behind the badge. No notes and yet you nailed it. Lee brought us up to date with where she is at in finding a suitable school for us to support with books Mendooran and Cassilis are in the running. Keep up the good work Lee. I'm not sure why John had Geoff and Sharon down to sing silent night, but as we all know there was a refusal by the parties concerned.(not that I blame them). If enough people think it is worth-while we can set up a royal commission to investigate this issue. On another note I would like everyone to look at their calendar's into next year especially around the camp oven festival and Mt Isa Rodeo. These events in particular are a source of income for us which is not coming out of our pockets so to speak. I know we have to travel there and this costs us, but we all know this and accept this as this is who we are and what we give our time for. Many hands make light work so they say. We know that those who attended last time had a ball. Hope we have some members who can help. This week s Zoom Meeting recording can viewed at : Robin Santa Bailey Jokers really Wild for Christmas Round 8 is well under way and Dennis has gone back to the bouncy music app to draw the names from the barrel. We all bop along to the tune waiting patiently for our name to be drawn. This week Janelle Books was lucky first and drew the 4 of Diamonds. John Clemmo will be disappointed he wasn t here to have his turn, but Pres Elect Robin stepped up for him but only managed a 10 of Spades. Next week the kitty jumps up to $ best of Santa s Luck to everyone. Here's how to Get Lucky and pay by EFT: -Transfer $30 to the club s General Account BSB ; Account Number In the transfer description please put your surname and JOK. For example "STCLAIR JOK"

7 On Tuesday 5 December there were 4 members present and 5 apologies. We welcomed Janelle to her first meeting. We had interesting discussions on the following: It s in the Bag. Lorelle reported on the success of this project. 144 bags were packed by 20 ladies at Bostock House. 9 bags have since been dropped off. This project will definitely be done again next year. As there is stock left, a request had been put in to District for a room to be made available at Bostock House for storage of these items and craft items. It will be raised at DLT meeting in February. Rugs. Camilla has a supply of squares donated by members to be sewn together. These will be done over time. Some rugs will be for adults and some for children. Camilla will show ladies how she sews them together at Murwillumbah Muster. Angle Gowns. Camilla has been in contact with Wendy from Angel Gowns re delivery of items. There are 8 rugs, bonnets and booties ready to be sent. This will be done in the New Year. A decision was made to continue with this project and forward items yearly. District Grant for Craft. A discussion was held and areas the grant could be used for are It s in the Bag for purchase of items that were in short supply this year. o Wool for making squares o Crafters Expo which will be held again in o Days for Girls to purchase items needed. Craft at Bostock House. Facilitated by Lorelle and Marlene will be held again next year on the last Wednesday of each month. A general discussion was held as to craft being done by each member and books being read at present. What an enjoyable and busy meeting we had. Camilla Barker The Board recently discussed reimbursing members for the costs of material purchases associated with our Board approved craft projects eg knitting rugs, Angel gowns, Trauma Teddies etc. Annette Bailey is collating the claims for our Treasurer so if you want to make a claim please forward the purchase receipts with details of the purchases to Annette at baleslark@gmail.com
8 RFDS updated guidelines for treating snake bites Do NOT wash the area of the bite or try to suck out the venom. It is extremely important to retain traces of venom for use with venom identification kits Do NOT incise or cut the bite, or apply a high tourniquet. Cutting or incising the bite won't help. High tourniquets are ineffective and can be fatal if released Do bandage firmly, splint and immobilise to stop the spread of venom. All the major medical associations recommend slowing the spread of venom by placing a folded pad over the bite area and then applying a firm bandage. It should not stop blood flow to the limb or congest the veins. Only remove the bandage in a medical facility, as the release of pressure will cause a rapid flow of venom through the bloodstream Do NOT allow the victim to walk or move their limbs. Use a splint or sling to minimise all limb movement. Put the patient on a stretcher or bring transportation to the patient Do seek medical help immediately as the venom can cause severe damage to health and even death within a few hours Get the full story here : Snake Bite

11 Dennis Wade Runner-Up Question : What is Rotary doing in Western Australia? Answer : Many Nomads have visited Broome in Western Australia but has anyone been there for the Rotary Club of Broome s biggest fund-raiser The Dragon Boat Races. Held in September each year the Broome Dragon Boat Regatta is one of the major events on Broome s sporting calendar and is also Broome Rotary s biggest annual fund-raising event. It looks like a lot of fun and competitive too.
