3 FROM THE BOOK WORM Sometimes movies based upon books become better stories and sometimes not so much. If you watch a movie based on a book and you love it. You love the characters and want to know them better, read the book. In an effort to fit the big screen and fit into two hours, movie makers sometimes cut out the back story. So by all means read the book. Love a book and want to see it on the big screen. By all means go but don t be disappointed if the best bits don t make it to the screen. Some books don t come to life well. Some however do. I don t think anyone who reads The Maltese Falcon doesn t hear Humphrey Bogart s voice. Sometimes a movie makes the book easier to read. I tried to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy multiple times but too many story lines jumping around. I just couldn t follow it. The movie streamlined the plot and it became readable when I knew the plot. Sometimes an author has a great plot but his characters don t come to life but they do on the big screen and the story becomes better. Just be aware that sometimes the book and the movie are totally different so don t go from one to the other with expectations. Sometimes things get lost in translation. Now the book worm is tired of writing reviews. For my next column I want to share your recommendations with everyone so tell me about a book and I will pass it on! MEMBER HIGHLIGHT NANCY SCHAUB I decided to become a lawyer because I like to read. I sat down one day and thought about what I liked to do and how I could do that for a living and that is how I became a lawyer. I moved to Iron Mountain in I set up my own practice in I love what I do and yes it still involves a lot of reading. I also love to garden and as result I also sell plants at the farmer s market because I just can t bear to throw a plant away that does not fit in my gardens. I love to cook and I grow things to cook as well as flowers. I knit and I cross stitch. I have 3 cats to keep me company. I play bridge. My mother encouraged all of her children to join service organizations and become involved

4 in community. I joined Zonta in 1990 and I love Zonta. I love the inclusiveness and comradery of our local club. I also love the excitement, energy, and ideas I get when I attend District and International events. I urge everyone who reads this to become involved in the wider Zonta world. I also volunteer at fundraising events for Caring House and Bay West Gala. I volunteer at the local shelter, I serve on their board and I chair the fundraising committee. My advice to all of you is love what you do, life is short. Give what you can and your generosity will come back to you when you need it most. UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS Crock and Rocker Pop-up Boutique: October 23 rd: 11:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m. October 24 th: 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Enjoy two days of fabulous shopping at the Historic Church located at 220 East Ludington Street in Iron Mountain!
