ITINERARY THE TOUR This is the prpsed itinerary fr ur trip, but it is flexible and may be adapted t suit the interests f thse wh jin the trip as well as weather cnditins. On this tur we can expect a cmbinatin f expsed pen castline and mre prtected inner passageways. As this is a expeditin style tur, we usually mve campsites each night. We may have an pprtunity t stay in the same place fr tw nights, if cnditins allw. DAY PRIOR Sme flks may wish t start their travel twards Bella Bella, hwever we have als scheduled the start and end dates s it is pssible t arrive Bella Bella n the day the tur starts either via ferry frm Prt Hardy n Vancuver Island r plane frm Vancuver r Prt Hardy. Please nte: If yu are traveling by ferry yu will likely need t spend the night befre in Prt Hardy as the ferry leaves Prt Hardy at 7:30am, arriving in Bella Bella at 12:50pm n the first day f yur trip, just in time t meet yur guides. On the last day the return ferry t Prt Hardy departs Bella Bella at 6:10pm and arrives in Prt Hardy at 11:30pm. Ferry reservatins highly recmmended. (Times accurate at time f publicatin - please duble check befre planning yur travel). DAY 1 Meet yur guides in Bella Bella in the heart f BC s Central Cast. At the public dck we will srt ut gear and prepare fr ur adventure, then set ff n ur water taxi. Once at the first beach we will begin with an rientatin t the kayaks and gear, learning efficient paddling techniques and safety prcedures. Once everyne is cmfrtable with their bats we ll launch and have an afternn intr paddle fr ur first strkes in the Great Bear Sea (time and weather dependend). DAYS 2-7 This is a beautiful area t paddle and we wrk with the cnditins and remain pen t adventure. Each day, yur guides will assess the weather, tides, and sea state t determine the destinatin fr the day. Flexibility is key. Paddling ptins abund, and we ll generally travel nrth-suth t take advantage f the prevailing nrthwesterlies. We ll aim t paddle amng the Tribal, Admiralty, McMullin and McNaughtn Island grups, with the hpe t get ut in the remte Gse Islands if weather allws. Mving sutheast we ll enter the spectacular islands and beaches f the Hakai Cnservancy. DAY 8 We will meet a water taxi this mrning fr transprt back t Bella Bella. We expect t arrive in Bella Bella by midday, allwing us time fr a quick visit t the village befre either heading t the airprt t catch an afternn flight back t Vancuver r departing by BC Ferries. Please d nt bk any flight befre 1pm. If flying, yu can expect t be back in Vancuver between 3 and 5pm, r if travelling with BC Ferries yu ll arrive in Prt Hardy at 11:30pm. (Please nte these times were crrect at time f publicatin - please duble check befre planning yur travel).

3 MEETING LOCATION WHERE Main public dck in the twn f Bella Bella (NOT the BC Ferries terminal in McLughlin Bay). WHEN 2pm n day 1 WHAT S INCLUDED Prfessinal guiding service, all kayaking equipment (including kayaks, PFDs, paddles, pumps, rpes and spnges), meals (dinner day 1 t breakfast day 8), cking equipment, camping equipment including tents and Therma-rest sleeping pads, water taxi sevice, park and land use permits are included in yur tur package. If yu are planning n bringing any f yur wn equipment please duble-check the packing list t ensure yu have the apprpriate gear and please let ur ffice knw in advance f the tur t avid us bringing duplicates. WHAT S NOT INCLUDED Nt included in the tur cst are accmmdatin prir t yur trip, flights, airprt transfers, ferries, taxis, travel/medical insurance, alchlic r carbnated beverages, rain gear, sleeping bags r persnal items (tiletries, clthing, etc.). Sleeping bags may be rented if yu prefer nt t travel with them (please reserve in advance) SANITATION IN THE WILDERNESS The kayak cuts n grves and leaves n scars, as it travels freely thrugh the waters. Hwever, n land, especially with the increasing number f kayakers venturing int new territry and seeking the un-traveled path, we must respect ur surrundings and be aware f ur impact n these envirnmentally sensitive areas. Spirit f the West Adventures makes every effrt t ensure we leave ur area as we fund it, if nt better. Where d we wash? Are there tilets? These are sme f the mst cmmn cncerns but questins nt always asked. All f ur camping sites are in wilderness settings and therefre are basic and rustic a true wilderness experience. On ur expeditin style turs we use a prtable tilet system set up in a private lcatin in cnjunctin with pit tilets when available. We use salt water fr washing as fresh water is limited and reserved fr drinking. Yur guide will discuss prper eliminatin techniques and suggest a suitable private area. Yur guide will carry a tiletry bag cmplete with tilet paper, Ziplc and paper bags as well as hand sanitizer. If yu have any cncerns while n tur please d nt be shy t ask yur guide they are very used t making sure everyne feels cmfrtable while in the wilderness.

4 WHAT TO BRING On the Great Bear Rainfrest Tur we will be packing everything int ur kayaks each day in rder t travel t ur next campsite. While space is limited, please ensure yu bring enugh t stay warm and dry. The fllwing is a list f suggested items that shuld keep yu a happy camper. The key is t pack int small cmpact bags which we will prvide. We will als prvide sme tips and tricks fr packing when yu arrive. Sea kayaks are basically watertight, althugh small amunts f water may get in thrugh the rudder lines and hatches. In the event f rain r drpping gear in the water we try t keep things as waterprf as pssible. We prvide yu with waterprf strage bags als knw as dry bags (these will be given t yu when we meet in Bella Bella). If yu prefer t bring yur wn dry bags, please nte; the largest bag shuld nt be larger than a sleeping bag r 20 litres, several small bags are best. We will prvide ne 5 litre, tw 10 litre and ne 20 litre dry bags fr yu t pack int. Additinal bags may be available depending n space in the kayaks. The 5 litre bag is gd fr string small items such as cameras, sunscreen, glasses, etc. The larger nes will be used fr string the rest f yur clthing. Please see ur suggestins fr waterprfing yur sleeping bag. Shes can generally be packed lse in the kayak. All participants will als pack sme f the grup gear and fd in their kayak. Dn t wrry, it always lks like an impssible muntain f stuff t fit in the kayaks, but with sme perseverance and caching frm yur guides we always manage t fit everything. TEMPERATURES Please nte that ur summer temperatures frm July until September are generally quite cmfrtable with temperatures frm degrees Celsius / degrees Fahrenheit. It s nt uncmmn t find mid day summers ht enugh t want t cl ff in the cean! ANY TIME OF YEAR we can have rain & wind, with temperatures ccasinally as lw as 13 C / 55 F. S, we say it is best t cme prepared fr any type f weather. PLEASE NOTE WHAT WE PROVIDE - ALL KAYAK AND SAFETY GEAR - TENTS & SLEEPING PADS - DRY BAGS - SMALL CAMP PILLOW If yu have yur wn gear and wuld prefer t use it n yur tur, please call ur ffice in advance f the tur t let us knw, t ensure it is apprpriate and t avid us bringing duplicates. The fllwing is a list f suggested items t bring alng. If yu have any cncerns r questins abut the list, please d nt hesitate t cntact us. Sleeping bag A 3-seasn synthetic bag is recmmended. Dwn bags will wrk but please take extra care t waterprf. If yu are uncertain abut whether r nt yu have the apprpriate bag just give us a call r check with yur lcal utdr stre. If yu d nt have a sleeping bag r wuld prefer nt t travel with ne, these may be rented fr $25 plus tax. Please reserve in advance. T waterprf yur sleeping bag line a cmpressin sack with a heavy duty garbage bag. Press the air ut f the bag with yur knee and then keep cmpact with the cmpressin sac which can be purchased at any utdr shp. This als helps keep yur bag small fr travel. Wetshes A pair that can get wet such as sturdy full strapped sandals (such as Keens, Tevas r Chacs), neprene bties, crcs, r rubber bts. Please avid flip-flps/thngs. Camp ftwear An additinal pair f ftwear that yu plan t keep dry. Runners, trainers r light hikers are great.

5 Hat A sun hat such as a baseball hat r fullbrimmed hat as well as a wl r fleece warm hat fr evenings r cler days. Sunglasses & sunscreen (stred in a Ziplc bag) A must fr prtectin frm sun and glare ff f the water. Safety crds n yur glasses are highly recmmended. Bathing suit Medicatin If yu are bringing medicatin please ensure that... 1) The name and expiry date f drug is n the cntainer; 2) Yu have the detailed instructins f yur dsage and frequency; 3) It is packed in a water and sunprf cntainer; 4) Yu bring a full extra dsage f yur medicatin in a separate cntainer t leave with yur guide, in case yu misplace r lse yurs, r are weathered in. If yu are flying, please pack all necessary medicatin in yur carry-n luggage. This will help eliminate sme stress shuld yur checked bags be misplaced in transit. Persnal items Tthbrush, tthpaste, bidegradable sap/shamp, washclth, feminine hygiene prducts, hairbrush, etc. Msquit repellent Insects are nt a significant cncern fr us in ur castal ecsystem, hwever fr thse unused t insects r with particular sensitivities sme repellent may cme in handy. Ziplc bags & several large garbage bags We will prvide yu with dry bags, but these cme in handy fr transprting laundry and/r wet clthing. Small flashlight r headlamp With spare batteries. Headlamps are preferable as they allw fr hands free peratin Water bttle Bike bttles r Nalgene-style bttles wrk best. Camera In a waterprf bag r case, r yu may use ur dry bags. Glves (ptinal) Biking glves wrk well t prtect yur hands frm blisters. If yu are really cncerned abut cld hands, and are paddling in the spring r fall seasns, yu may want t invest in neprene glves r pgies. Beverages We supply a wide range f teas and cffee as well as juices. Yu are welcme t bring alng sda pps r alchlic beverages if yu chse t. Please nte hwever that we d expect ur guests t cnsume alchlic beverages respnsibly and strictly enfrce a n alchl n the water plicy. Fishing gear (ptinal) Make sure yu have a valid B.C. fishing license. These can be purchased n-line at rec/licence-permis/index-eng.htm Bk r jurnal Binculars (ptinal) Gratuity fr yur guides at yur wn discretin. CLOTHING Clthing shuld be suitable fr the time f year, bearing in mind that it culd becme cld and wet at anytime f year. Layering is the best way t regulate bdy temperature and maintain warmth. We suggest aviding cttn (except fr thse ht days). Cttn has n insulatin value when wet. An inner material that wicks misture frm the bdy and gives a cmfrtable dry feeling even while wet is the best first layer (Plyprpylene, Lycra, Nyln, Plyester). A synthetic material such as fleece r pile makes the best secnd layer t prvide warmth. Wl is als suitable. Rain jacket & rain pants Fr the unexpected nasty weather. T test yur waterprfness jump in the shwer and see if yu stay dry! (we re serius!) If yu wuld like t rent/hire raingear frm us, please reserve in advance f the tur. Tps and bttms can be rented fr $25 plus tax fr the set. Light windprf jacket (ptinal) Lng pants 1 pair f fleece r warm cmfrtable pants. 2 lighter pairs made f a quick drying, synthetic fabric. Athletic style pants (running r yga) are generally apprpriate. Jeans are NOT recmmended fr paddling. Lightweight lng underwear 2 pairs, helps t keep yu warm at night r as a base layer during the day. We recmmend ne set fr kayaking and ne set which is reserved fr sleeping and always stays dry. Sweaters 2 warm wl r fleece sweaters (ne may be all yu need, but it is nice t have a spare in case ne gets wet). Lng-sleeved nn-cttn shirt (synthetic/wl)- 3 T-shirts 3 r 4. Shrts 1-2 quick dry nyln Warm scks 3 t 5 pairs (1 warmer pair fr arund camp) Undergarments An extra set f clthes that yu may want t reserve fr the end f the trip.

There are n additinal csts nce n ur tur. On ur guided turs we supply everything that yu will need fr kayaking and camping except fr a few persnal items such as a sleeping bag and rain gear (these can be rented if needed - please reserve in advance) and yur clthes and tiletries. Water taxi transprtatin, fd, gear, etc, while n trip is included in the cst f the tur. Once the tur begins we prvide all meals and nn-alchlic beverages (wide selectin f teas, cffee, juices, ht chclate) frm dinner n day ne t lunch n the last day. Yu are welcme t bring yur favurite wine, beer r sft drinks. We recmmend purchasing these items befre arriving in Bella Bella as selectin is limited here. HOW RUGGED IS THIS TRIP? IS IT THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR ME? The Great Bear Rainfrest is a remte wilderness area well-remved frm any urban areas. Once ur water taxi drps us ff we re entirely n ur wn and self-sufficient fr the remainder f the trip, carrying all ur fd, water and equipment. Yu can expect undevelped campsites, varying weather cnditins (including likely perids f rain) and utdr living fr the whle trip, s will need t be prepared t be cmfrtable fr this. Yu dn t need a lt f prir experience t enjy the trip, but if yu ve camped befre r travelled by cane r kayak yu ll have a better idea f what t expect. A sense f adventure certainly ges a lng way! If yu re nt sure if this trip is right fr yu, please call us in the ffice t ask any questins yu like and get a gd idea f what the trip is all abut. DO I NEED TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE FOR THIS TRIP? This tur is cnsidered mderate in nature and requires a mderate level f fitness. If yu are capable f a few hurs f mderate exercise each day with pssible shrt perids f increased exertin yu shuld have n prblems. Keep in mind that gd general health will g a lng way if we happen t encunter sme strng winds r time restrictins. Mst imprtant is an adventurus spirit. Please check with yur dctr if yu have any particular cncerns. HOW MUCH PADDLING IS GENERALLY DONE IN A DAY? Paddling time will vary depending n ur destinatin and the grup s abilities and desires, but is slightly mre than n ur ther expeditin trips. Generally we travel between 4-7 hurs a day. HOW STABLE ARE THE KAYAKS? WHAT IS THE LIKELIHOOD OF FLIPPING OVER? The kayaks we use n ur turs are stable and designed fr cmfrt. Fr thse a little cncerned, the duble kayaks are slightly mre stable than the singles. The likelihd f a capsize is minimal, and generally nly ccurs in an uncmmn situatin. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY KAYAK FLIPS OVER? If fr sme reasn yur kayak flips ver, all f ur guides have ample practice time n the water with rescue prcedures, in rder t quickly and efficiently get yu back in yur bat. At this pint we will take yu t the nearest shre t change int sme warm czy clthing and carry n with ur jurney. While we are ut n the water, it is f the utmst imprtance that the grup sticks tgether in the event f capsize r change f rute.

7 WHAT IF THE WEATHER TURNS BAD? WILL I BE COMFORTABLE AND WARM? Our weather in the Pacific Nrthwest is generally pleasant frm May thrugh until the end f September. The temperatures n the Central Cast will be cler than the Vancuver area. Fg is very cmmn n summer mrnings, hwever this nearly always clears at midday t make way fr clear skies and sun. It can rain in the summer. A gd rule f thumb is t be prepared fr any type f weather and yu will stay cmfrtable. Layering is the key, and it allws yu t put n r take ff layers while n the water if yu need t. WHAT SORT OF WILDLIFE MIGHT WE SEE ON THE TOUR? The diversity and abundance f wildlife in the Pacific Nrthwest is ne f ur privileges. With river run-ff frm the muntains, cean currents, tide rips, eddies and upwelling these waters are amng the mst prductive n earth. Frm the rich marine life f clurful plants and invertebrates, seabirds, shrebirds, waterfwl, mink, tter, seals, sea lins, dlphins, and whales, t the land animals f deer, raccns, cugars, wlves and bears, we are bund t see smething. WHAT ARE THE CAMPSITES LIKE? All f ur campsites are in undevelped, wilderness settings. Depending n the particular site and tide cycle, we may be camping n sandy beaches amng the driftwd, r in the frest under large trees. We seek ut sites with beautiful surrundings and thse that ffer slitude. There may be times (nt likely but pssible) when we are camping next t anther grup f kayakers. Campsite chice will be based n weath- er cnditins, rute chice and grup size and preference. WHERE DO WE WASH? ARE THERE TOILETS? There is very little fresh water t be fund n the small islands thrugh which we travel. Therefre, seawater is yur best bet fr washing up. Please use bidegradable, envirnmentally friendly sap brands. There are n tilet facilities in the Great Bear, but we carry a prtable tilet system. Yur guide will generally designate an area r system that wrks fr ensuring yur privacy. We are very accustmed t making sure all f ur guests feel as cmfrtable and infrmed as pssible in this regard - please feel free t ask us any questins yu might have, befre r during yur tur. WHERE CAN I LEAVE LUGGAGE THAT I WON T NEED ON TRIP? If yu are staying in the Bella Bella area befre and after yur tur, please check with yur accmmdatin t see if they can stre yur bags. We will als have a Spirit f the West Van in Bella Bella in which yu can leave luggage, but please nte this is at yur wn risk and we can t be respnsible fr any theft r damage. IF I WOULD LIKE TO TIP THE GUIDES, WHAT IS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD? If yu wuld like t express yur appreciatin t the guides thrugh a gratuity, such recgnitin wuld be enthusiastically received. The industry standard fr tipping is apprx. 10% per persn f the trip cst. All tips received will be cllected and disbursed amngst yur guides & basecrew by the trip leader. 10 TOUR TERMS & CONDITIONS RESERVING YOUR TRIP Reserving yur adventure with Spirit f the West Adventures is simple. If yu re nt sure if a particular trip is right fr yu r yu re lking fr mre infrmatin, let us knw and we wuld be happy t answer yur questins r put yu in tuch with a past guest wh has experienced the trip befre. T reserve space n ur turs we ask fr a depsit as well as a cmpleted reservatin frm submitted nline, ver the phne r by fax. We require a depsit f 25% per persn. PAYMENT SCHEDULE A depsit t reserve yur space n a tur is due at time f bking. The balance f yur trip cst is due 90 days prir t departure. Fr yur cnvenience, with yur authrizatin, we autmatically charge yur credit card when the balance is due unless therwise arranged. If we have had t turn custmers away, the depsit is retained days befre trip 50% f ttal tur price is refunded. - Later than 30 days befre trip N refund will be given, unless we can find smene t fill yur space. In this case, nly the depsit is retained. Canadian Turs: Keep in mind that ur sea kayaking turs are a true wilderness experience that can invlve camping in established and nn-established sites with minimal facilities and rustic surrundings. Internatinal Turs: Htels in the Bahamas are NOT included in tur csts. Htels in Chile are included in the tur price and are based n duble ccupancy.
