1 BUCKSKIN COUNCIL 2018 DAY / TWILIGHT CAMP Parent Guide Dear Parents: It is ur pleasure t welcme yu t the Buckskin Cuncil Cub Scut Day Camp! Inside yu will find a wealth f infrmatin abut the Cub Scut Day Camp prgram. This will serve as an intrductin t thse new t the prgram and a refresher fr thse wh are Day Camp veterans. Our primary gals fr the Day Camp experience are: T make sure Scuts have fun! This is ur mst imprtant bjective! T prmte Scuting and the Scut spirit in all ur activities. T prvide a theme that will serve as a binding thread fr ur prgram. T supprt rank advancement f ur participating Scuts. T prvide a safe, educatinal, and entertaining envirnment fr Scuts and their parents Any prblem that arises during camp shuld be addressed immediately. Please cntact the camp directr if any prblem keeps any yuth frm getting the mst ut f his day camp experience. The Buckskin Cuncil, Camp Administratin and staff are here t help ur yuth have a gd experience during camp. Please advise us f any cncerns yu have and dn t be afraid t ask if yu have special requests. Usually special needs can be accmmdated; hwever, smetimes plicies and prgram time can restrict sme f yur requests. The Cuncil Office phne number is (304) Cub Scut Day Camp Staff are all vlunteers! EACH PACK IS REQUIRED TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO CAMP! Please wrk with yur ther adults t ensure yur pack is sending: Tiger Cubs (entering 1 st grade in Sept) - each must attend with an adult parent r guardian 1 t 4 bys requires at least 1 adult 5 t 10 bys requires at least 2 adults Over 10 bys requires 2 adults plus 1 additinal adult fr every 5 bys The adults attending with the Tiger Cubs d NOT cunt twards yur required leadership as they will be slely helping with their Tiger. Cub Scuts age 6 t 11, r bys entering the first thrugh fifth grades. Bringing friends t camp is an excellent way t intrduce them t the excitement f Cub Scuting. Hwever, t attend any f the summer camps, a by, wh is f Cub Scut age, must be registered and paid as a member f the By Scuts f America prir t the start f camp. Tiger Cubs (age 6 r entering first grade in August) must be accmpanied by an adult partner t attend Day Camp. Partner must be at least 18 years ld and will participate with the Tiger Cub in all activities. Girl Scuts may attend using the same requirements as the Cub Scuts and Tiger Cubs. Siblings r ther nn-scuting yuth may attend ONLY if the parent is a vlunteer at camp. They must register and pay the registratin fee. What abut Cub Scuts r Adults with special needs? Day Camp has been designed t include ALL Cub Scuts and Scut Vlunteers and parents wh wuld like t participate. If yur participant has special needs please cntact us and we will make the necessary arrangements t ensure everyne has fun! COST Mre than 30 Days prir t yur camp start date $55 per yuth Less than 30 Days prir t yur camp start date $75 per yuth A $10 discunt is available if yu register siblings r ne scut attends mre than ne camp.

There will be additinal infrmatin available n the cuncil website. Please ensure yu register them fr their new rank (in august will be entering 1 st grade Tiger, 2 nd Wlf, 3 rd Bear, 4 th - Webels The Buckskin Cuncil believes that n Scut shuld be restricted frm attending Day Camp because f financial reasns. Applying fr a schlarship is recmmended when effrts by all parties have been made t fund the prgram. The Buckskin Cuncil is willing t assist by awarding up t 50% f the camp fee fr ne camp per year. If yu need assistance yu may cmplete a Schlarship Applicatin (lcated n the website abve)and submit it t the Buckskin Cuncil befre MAY 1 st, Refund Plicy Because mst f the camp fees are actually spent befre yuth arrives at camp; refunds can nly be made in case f death f a family member, majr sickness and/r injury, r family/military transfer. Reasns such as vacatin, summer schl and last minute changes f mind are NOT acceptable fr refunds. A written refund request (including a physician s nte fr illness r injury) frm the parent/guardian must be received nt later than August 31, We d allw the transfer f the fee t anther day camp r anther yuth wh has nt paid. Yu must ntify the cuncil ffice f intent t transfer and if transferring the fee t anther yuth it is the respnsibility f the family t cllect the fee frm the family f the Scut receiving the transfer. DEN LEADER INFORMATION: A Day Camp Den is 6-12 bys ging int the 1st - 3rd grades (Cub Den) r the 4th r 5th grades (Webels Den). Each Day Camp Den must have ne Den Leader fr every 5-6 bys and ne Den Leader t prvide tw-deep leadership. One Den Leader must be at least 21 years ld; the ther must be at least 14 years ld. A 14 year ld By Scut may serve as the secnd Den Leader. Leaders d nt have t be current den leaders in yur pack; hwever, it is preferable that they be registered (cmplete a Cub Scut Applicatin). It is required that all leaders, including Den Leaders, have cmpleted the Yuth Prtectin Prgram which is available On Line Cmplete yur Yuth Prtectin Training at **By the way, parents and grandparents make great Den Leaders. What is Required f a Den Leader? The Den Leaders prvide supervisin and guidance t their day camp dens. These individuals will be respnsible fr acknwledging the arrival and departure f each Cub Scut thrughut the Day Camp day, accmpany the dens thrugh all f their statins, and assist statin leaders and the bys as needed with the different crafts and activities that are cmpleted. As well as prviding and expecting rder fr the bys in their charge, they are als suppsed t have a lt f fun and enjy the time spent vlunteering and imprving the lives f these bys. At the beginning f each day, the Den Leader will check in with Registratin and be given a list with the members f their den listed. It is imperative that this list be kept with the Den Leader at all times. The Den Leader will check each Cub Scut in upn his arrival, n the list fr their den, and will sign each by ut with the driver designated at registratin/check-in fr each day, at the end f the evening. Please remember t get a Mbile Telephne number if pssible t include with signatures.

4 This list is t be submitted at the end f the day t the Day Camp Prgram Directr. Assist statin leaders serve as an extra pair f hands wherever needed. Have FUN! It is the respnsibility f the den leaders t cmplete tw achievement sheets fr each Scut thrughut the week. These can be kept in the den bk thrughut the week. One shuld be sent hme f Friday and ne frwarded t the pack crdinatr thrugh the camp directr. We ALWAYS need Den Leaders. If yu can spare a part f a day, a whle day r the entire week WE NEED YOU! Please let yur camp directr knw as sn as pssible fr planning purpses. What D I Need t Knw? **On the First Day f Day Camp: Arrive early! Day One will require extra time and we check yuth in and assign them their den and issue t-shirts, etc. We recmmend yu arrive at least min befre yur scheduled flag raising. Bys are assigned t dens accrding t the rank yu registered them with. Please bring yur Scuts t the registratin table. If yu have vlunteered t be a den leader r ther camp staff, please mve t the frnt f the line. Ensure yu have a cmpleted health frm fr everyne wh will be in camp. Yu will need part A and B nly. Yur health frm must be cmpleted with the past 12 mnths. Yu may search nline fr BSA health frm r find ne at Please d nt drp yur children at registratin and leave. Yu need t accmpany them t the Den Leaders in charge f their den. Yu will sign them in with these leaders. If a Den leader is nt yet present, yu must wait until ne arrives. Ensure yu have everything under what t bring. Be n time t pick up yur yuth. Parents shuld wait until the clsing ceremny is cmpleted befre signing them ut with the Den Leader. If yu want t hear the annuncements fr the next day please arrive befre clsing ceremny begins. If yu are ging t be late please cntact the Camp Directr as sn as pssible. Every Day After The First Day: Ensure yu have everything under what t bring. Arrive 15 minutes befre flag raising and check in with Den Leader. If a Den leader is nt yet present, yu must wait until ne arrives. If yuth will be absent please cntact the camp directr. Be n time t pick up yur yuth. Parents shuld wait until the clsing ceremny is cmpleted befre signing them ut with the Den Leader. If yu want t hear the annuncements fr the next day please arrive befre clsing ceremny begins. 5 What t leave at hme: Please use cmmn sense D nt bring knives r ther sharp bjects r tls, prjectiles r anything ignitable which culd be viewed as explsive in nature. Yes they may have their whittling chip NO they may nt bring their knife t camp. Electrnic tys (Game-by, PSP, radi) r ther electrnic items Any ther types f tys (including playing r cllectible card; ie Pkémn, etc.) Shting Sprts equipment will be prvided and can NOT be brught frm hme. Sandals, thngs and bare feet Pets Little brthers r sisters (unless the adult is wrking at camp and registered as attending) What t bring (Please remember t mark all belngings with name!) Camp T-shirt. We will prvide yu with ne n the first day. Always wear yur camp T-shirt and d nt alter the camp T-shirt. Yu will need t d laundry every night r buy anther shirt. The camp T-shirt MUST be wrn every day. Small back/day pack. Check and clean ut each night. Water Bttle - Please send a water bttle that will last all day and instruct yur yuth t keep the bttle t refill. The cheaper water bttles dn t last s we recmmend a reusable ne r mre sturdy ne. Lunch with name n the bag. Pack a gd size lunch fr yur yuth in a galln size ziplc bag. We dn t recmmend lunch bags as they take up t much rm in the ice chest. The ziplc bag allws it t be kept in the ice chest easily withut getting wet. Yur yuth will get hungry and want a snack thrughut the day, s please remember t include snack fd and a drink in additin t lunch. They are very active and will be hungrier than nrmal. Clsed Te/Clsed Heel Shes Yuth AND adults. Nn-Aersl insect repellent Sunscreen Rain gear (a Scut is always prepared!) Swim gear and twel, if water activity is ffered. A hat (ptinal, but recmmended)

6 Prgram Opprtunities There is a daily camp schedule and dens will rtate t varius statins. These statins change day t day and als different camps ffer different activities. While statins vary they generally include sprts, utdr skills, crafts, nature, archery, BB Guns, and swimming (if available). Sme camps als have special guests fr learning and fun. Advancement is nt the purpse f camp. While sme activities will wrk fr advancement sme are just fr fun. Archery and BB Guns: The first day f BB guns and archery cnsists f safety and shting instructin. Please d nt talk t the Scuts n the range. Activities will be prvided fr thse Scuts wh are awaiting their turn t sht. Unsafe weather cnditins (i.e. rain, high winds, etc.) may cause the range t be shut dwn. This is the range directr's discretin and is beynd ur cntrl. Range Directrs are BSA trained and have full say ver what happens in their range. If yu have cncerns, please take the staff aside at an apprpriate time r cnsult the prgram and/r camp directr. Please stay ut f the range unless the range fficer invites yu in and d nt talk t Scuts when they are inside the range. Refrain frm taking flash phtgraphy, and please d nt enter the cautin tape area. The best thing parents can d is t help keep the bys wh are ut f the range quiet. Remember, yur participatin shws yur child that yu care!!! Achievement Sheets: Each camper will have an achievement sheet t track the activities and partial adventures earned at camp. Drp Off (ther than day ne) Parents drpping ff shuld try t arrive n later than 10 minutes befre camp starts. That allws time fr all Scuts t be at the pening when it starts. Each by will need t check in and each parent/designated adult sign in their Scut with his Den Leader. They will travel t the Opening Ceremny as a Den. Late Check-In/Early Pick-Up If it is necessary fr the Scut t arrive late, the parent will check their Scut in at the Registratin area. If a parent/designated adult needs t pick up the Scut early, the parent will g t registratin and sign the Scut ut. Visitrs T ensure safety every staff member must wear the camp T-shirt r Class A Unifrms. Parents are welcme t visit at any time during the camp. Hwever, they need t check in at Registratin, wear their visitr identificatin, and check ut when they leave. Emergency Assembly Three (3) lng bursts repeated n a hrn will be used as an alarm signal. If this signal is heard, everyne will gather immediately at the designated spt and wait fr further instructins. Lst By At the beginning f camp, each camper will be assigned a buddy and instructed t knw his buddy s name. As sn as yu realize a by is missing, send a respnsible adult t the area where they were last seen. Check with the by s buddy. If the by is nt lcated,

7 immediately infrm the Camp Directr. The camp will be secured, the staff will cnduct a thrugh search, and law enfrcement will be ntified shuld he still be missing. First Aid/Injuries All persns attending camp are required t have a cmpleted registratin frm with signed health histry n file. The frms will be given t the Medical Officer t use in case f emergency. Reprt any injury t the camp staff immediately. Any injury that requires first aid shuld be treated at the first aid statin, and the First Aid Staff will decide if further treatment is necessary. We have arrangements with area medical centers t treat any emergency cases. If yu need emergency assistance, yu shuld check in at the First Aid Statin immediately. Medicatins at Camp If a yuth r adult is bringing medicatin t camp, it shuld be in the riginal cntainer and have the persn s name and dsage instructins. This is fr the safety f bth the individual taking medicatin, and thers in the camp, especially yung peple. Den Leaders shuld cllect any such medicatins and turn them in t the Day Camp Medical Officer at the start f each day. Den Leaders shuld send any cub taking medicatin t the Day Camp Medical Officer with a "Buddy" when it is time fr the Scut t take medicatin. We als require a frm be cmpleted with infrmatin n hw and when t administer the medicatin. With the exceptin f Epi-pens/Bee sting kits and asthma inhalers, medicatins must be turned int the camp and administered nly by First Aid Staff. Camper Insurance Each BSA registered camper and leader is cvered by medical insurance fr mst injuries r illnesses that happen while at camp. Buckskin Cuncil carries a primary excess insurance plicy which means benefits are paid in excess f the benefits paid by any ther insurance which the individual may have. This means if yur Scut is injured at camp, yur persnal insurance becmes primary fr cverage with the camp insurance picking up any remaining amunt. ALL INJURIES MUST BE REPORTED TO THE HEALTH OFFICER TO INSURE PROPER DOCUMENTATION, AND TREATMENT. Discipline Cub Scuts are expected t respect themselves and thers at all times while at Day Camp. If a Scut s behavir jepardizes the safety f him r thers, r desn t prtray the prper Scuting values, he shuld be asked t stp. Den Leaders are respnsible fr maintaining rder within the Den. Any and all disciplinary actins will be judged n a case-by-case basis by the Camp Directr in cnsultatin with the Cuncil Staff Advisr. Physical fighting may result in immediate third ffense. Scuts are nt t be insulted, degraded, r demralized thrugh verbal discipline. Physical discipline is NOT allwed at Day Camp (even with yur wn Scut). When issues arise, the fllwing guidelines will be fllwed: First Offense: Warning by Day Walker r Staff Member Secnd Offense: The Scut will spend ne rtatin with the Camp Directr and will miss that scheduled activity. The activity will NOT be made up. Incident is dcumented and ntificatin will be given t parent/guardian at the end f the day Third Offense: Immediate ntificatin f parent/guardian. Incident is dcumented and camper may be sent hme and nt permitted t return t camp.

8 Camp Rules fr Everyne (this includes adults) Shrts are allwed if they are mid-thigh length r lnger. Always wear clsed-te shes. N flip flps, sandals r bare feet are allwed unless in the swimming area. Per BSA plicy, n tbacc use is permitted within sight f a Scut. Please wrk with the camp directr if yu need a break If yu take any medicine, bring it t the Camp First Aid Statin daily, and make sure it stays there until the end f the day Always sign yuth in with the den leaders in the mrning, and sign ut in the evening befre yuth leave. D NOT drp them ff withut signing them in. Camp Staff will nt release a by int the custdy f any persn except the parent r legal guardians r whse names appear n the camp medical frm withut written authrizatin frm the parent r legal guardian. If yur sn is getting a ride hme frm anther parent, including a vlunteer staff member we must receive that request in writing. Always stay with yur Walking Den The buddy system must be used during swimming, restrm breaks, etc. Yuth will never g ANYWHERE by themselves. Always walk (d nt run) Always stay within the camp area nt in the wds r the water Always thrw trash in trash cans (r take it with yu) D NOT thrw rcks, climb trees r carry sticks. Yuth must fllw the Scut Oath and Law. Always remember the Glden Rule and treat thers as yu wuld like t be treated. Prper shwer rm / lcker rm / bathrm behavir must be fllwed. N teasing, twel flipping r hrse play will be allwed. Cell phne use shuld be limited t emergencies nly. Adults shuld be interacting with yuth nt their phnes and if yuth have phnes they shuld remain in backpacks. Camp will nt be respnsible fr lst r damaged phnes r ther electrnic devices.
