EXECUTIVE SUMMARY M inist ry of Road Transport and Highw ay (M ort&h) has em barked on a st aged up gradat ion program of various Nat ional Highw ay corridors. The w idening is necessary t o develop National Highway corridors w here t raffic int ensit y has increased significantly and t here is requirem ent of augment at ion of capacit y for safe and efficient m ovem ent of t raffic. M ort& H has aut horized Nat ional Highway Authorit y of India to implement t he developm ent project s for t hese corridors eit her t hrough selfbudget ary sources, loans from int ernat ional banking inst it ut ions or on BOT. To have m axim um developm ent privat e sect or part icipat ion is being encouraged. In order t o provide a bet t er level of service t o t he vehicular t raffic, it has been decided t o augm ent t he capacit y of the Tindivanam -Trichy sect ion of NH-5 from exist ing Km.. to exist ing Km. 5., tot al proposed length is approx 5. in the St at e of Tamilnadu. The Nat ional Highw ay no. 5 is an important road connect ing t he st at e capit al and port of Chennai and serving t he various part s of t he st at e. The present t w o lane undivided carriageway is unable t o cat er t o t he requirement of t raffic. The port ion Chennai t o Tindivanam (Km.. t o Km..) has already been w idened t o a -lane divided carriagew ay. Thus the Const ruct ion package - VI-A for t he project includes developing t he exist ing t w o lane Carriagew ay t o four lane divided carriagew ay st andards including with st rengt hening of exist ing t wo lane bet w een Tindivanam Ulundurpet Sect ion from Km.. t o Km. 9.5 of NH 5. Therefore t he ent ire package involve (i) Design, Engineering, const ruct ion, Developm ent, Finance, Operat ion and M aint enance of laning the exist ing lane sect ion from Km.. (Near Tindivanam ) to Km. 9.5 (Near Ulundurpet ) on NH-5. This package w as aw arded t hrough Global Tendering Process t o t he Concessionaire M / s Ulundurpet Expressways Privat e imit ed, Bangalore on Build Operat e and Transfer basis. The Project Road (Tindivanam -Ulundurpet Sect ion) t raverses t hrough Villupuram dist rict in t he st at e of Tam ilnadu. The project road passes t hrough urban areas like Tindivanam, Kot t eripat tu, Sendur, Vikravandi, M undiampakkam, et c. The road is already laned up to Tindivanam, under a separat e agreem ent. The st ret ches aft er Ulundurpet are also upgraded to lanes. Page

MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT DURING THE MONTH Maintenance activities like cleaning of carriage way, cleaning of drains, removal of garbage, repairing of sign boards, repairing or replacement of damaged metallic crash barriers, pedestrian guard rails, kerb, etc are in progress. Accident victims have been rescued through ERP (Emergency Response Protocol), intimating to the nearest police and ambulances and in coordination with hospitals. All project facilities like wayside amenities, truck lay byes including attending repairs to illumination, landscaping, water supply, drainage, waste disposal system, litterbins, and toilets have been maintained properly. Round the clock patrolling is being done for surveillance of the ROW in respect of the Project / Project Facilities. Maintenance of illuminarie of Toll plazas, Truck lay byes, Rest rooms, Bus shelters, Major junctions is in progress. Maintenance of bus bays, truck lay byes, rest rooms, toll plazas, toll plaza buildings, etc is in progress. Replacing of dead / missing plants, watering, manuring, etc. in progress for median / avenue plantation. Repair to the damaged portions of lined drains is in progress. Cleaning of vents of culverts and bridges is in progress. Encroachments are being removed periodically at service roads and ROW areas. Cleaning of lined drains and toe drains are in progress. Guard post fixing and painting is in progress in high embankment. Rectification of earthen shoulder is in progress. Trimming median plants in median is in progress. Replacement of damaged pedestrian grills is in progress. Cutting and trimming of grass and weeds in the median and ROW is in progress. Replacing of missed / damaged cluster boards, sign boards, etc. is in progress. Numbering and replacing of missed / damaged HM / KM stones are in progress. Page

At Km 76+ to 77+6-Arasur near divider-aggregate & Sand dumped over SWD drain the slab fully covered by the hays scatted papers & sand shall be removed. The high grown plant beyond the end of SWD shall be removed. Near the end of service Road, Rice Cleaning is being done. Half portion of service road blocked due to these unwanted activities. Cleaning completed. Cleaning is being done as per the scheduled program continuously. Near Madapattu Bus Stop Over SWD hays being dumped Bamboo fencing material placed for sale. To be removed. Bamboo stock material was removed. Beyond SWD rank vegetation, grass, small plant edge shall be removed, over SWD slab not clean & covered by plants, grass, sand etc., divider side covered by sand, hays etc. sugarcane hays, rubbish on end of division.
