1 REGISTRATION & JUDGING INFORMATION Each unit will need to supply all of their own camping equipment and food. Please fill out and return the registration form located in the back of this guide, as soon as possible, with payment of fees made payable to The Boy Scouts of America 3450 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Pasadena, CA Payment can also be directed to the Eastside or Smiser scout shops. In addition, a local tour permit must be filed two weeks in advance. A copy of the duty roster, menu and fireguard plan should be posted at each campsite. For your convenience a copy of each of these forms is included in this guide. Each den is to have their own campsite. All scout rules should be followed when it pertains to campsite set-up. At check-in, your tour permit should be made available for viewing. Each member is to have 2 copies of the medical forms. One is to be turned in to the Cubporee's First-Aid station. The other is to be worn by the member in the left breast shirt pocket at all times. The regi stration fee covers the camping fees, insurance, award ribbons, and the patch. For your convenience there will be a scout run store available for a limited supply of candy, sodas, etc. TIGER CUBS You are welcome to come and check out the action. There are no competitive events for the Tigers this year. They may take part in the afternoon campwide games however, all other Tiger rules apply. JUDGING At each event patrols will be awarded a certain number of points based on their knowledge/ability to complete the event. The decision of all judges is final. Have patrols be prepared by preparing Den flags. Provide all badges of office, unit numbers, etc. properly positioned on uniforms. It is recommended to bring Class A uniform. Please keep in mind that the uniforms and flags will be judged at check-in. A separate campsite will be designated for the Boy Scouts and Webelos. They should follow all campsite rules. Separate campsites will be maintained by the remaining Cub Scouts. All campsites will be inspected before checkout.

2 CUBPOREE SKILL EVENTS 1. Scarecrow Structure- The Cubporee staff will provide you with all the needed materials your den will use teamwork to erect a scarecrow. 2. Fire Building- This event will challenge your knowledge on successful fire building. 3. Pioneer Knots & Rope Lashings- This requires general knowledge and application. 4. Camping Knowledge- designed to challenge your knowledge on the methods to use for a safe campsite set-up. 5. Readyman- This event will measure your readyman skills. 6. Citizenship- The activity will test your knowledge. 7. Physical Fitness- Created to test your physical ability Identify poisonous plants and animals- An event that requires a general knowledge plants and animals. 9. Mystery Event... The Cubporee staff hopes you can conquer this challenge. 10. Check In, Uniform inspection, and campsite inspection.- Be prepared to look your best and show off your talents. 11. Campwide games will be offered in the afternoon as free-time activities and wilt not be scored.

3 DEN COMPETITION Participating Dens can earn awards at. The number of points earned during the competition will be determined by which awards a Den receives. The awards breakdown is approximately as follows: Presidential Awards First Place Awards Second Place Third Place 700 points & above 600 to 699 points 500 to 599 points up to 499 points The following point maximum will be in place for the following items: Cubporee Skilled Events 1000 Upon Check In All Forms Completed 100 Please remember Cubporee is about using friendly competition to test the knowledge level of your unit. 10 ESSENTIALS The Boy Scouts of America teaches its members the importance of carrying the scout outdoor essentials. Cub Scouts are required to bring the 10 essentials. A list of the 10 essentials can be located within the Check-In/Out sheet of the guide.

5 THE PRINCIPLES OF LEAVE NO TRACE outdoor adventures 1. Plan ahead and prepare Proper trip planning and preparation helps hikers and campers accomplish trip goals safely and enjoyably while minimizing damage to natural and cultural resources. Campers who plan ahead can avoid unexpected situations, and minimize their impact by complying with area regulations such as observing limitations on group size. 2. Camp and travel on durable surfaces. Damage to land occurs when visitors trample vegetation or communities of organisms beyond recovery. The resulting barren areas develop into undesirable trails, campsites, and soil erosion. 3. Pack it in, pack it out. This simple, yet effective saying motivates backcountry visitors to take their trash home with them. It makes sense to carry out of the backcountry the extra materials taken there by your group or others. Minimize the need to pack out food scraps by carefully planning meals. Accept the challenge of packing out everything you bring. 4. Leave what you find. Allow others a sense of discovery: Leave rocks, plants, animals, archaeological artifacts, and other objects as you find them. It may be illegal to remove artifacts. 5. Minimize campfire use. Some people would not think of camping without a campfire. Yet the naturalness of many areas has been degraded by overuse of fires and increasing demand for firewood. 6. Respect wildlife. Quick movements and loud noises are stressful to animals. Considerate campers observe wildlife from afar, give animals a wide berth, store food securely, and keep garbage and food scraps away from animals. Help keep wildlife wild. 7. Respect others. Thoughtful campers travel and camp in small groups, keep the noise down, select campsites away from other groups, always travel and camp quietly, wear clothing and use gear that blend with the environment, respect private property, and leave gates (open or closed) as found. Be considerate of other campers and respect their privacy.

All other activity can be performed in the Uniform of (Class B).

7 JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS TO REMEMBER 1) Remind all your patrol/den members to have their Medical Release Form on them in a safe place. 2) Be sure that you and your patrol/den members read and understand the Code of Conduct and all the safety procedures for your own safety. 3) Make sure you and your patrol/den members understand the agenda for the Camporee and the times for each event. 4) Respect other patrol/den's campsites and make sure all your patrol/den items are marked with your unit #, patrol/den name, and your name as well. 5) All questions that are going to be asked of you and of your patrol/den members will come of the appropriate handbook. 6) Be sure to carry your patrol/den flag during competition. 7) Be sure that your patrol/den Duty Roster, Fireguard Plan and Campsite Map are legible, complete and posted in an area that will be easily seen. 8) Make sure that all the proper patches are on the proper uniform and on the right location on the Scout Shirt. 9) Once you and your fellow patrol/den members have read the whole packet, you will be ready to Do Your Best at this Camporee, and we wish you the best of luck. May you and your patrol come away with a Presidential Award. 10) Your parents (and grandparents) are welcome to come to the campfire and awards presentation on Saturday night. 11) Scoutmasters and Den Leaders are responsible for the security of their unit campsites. A Scoutmaster, Den Leader or registered adult are to watch the campsite at all times. 12) All cooking must be done on above ground stoves. Support your stoves on a table top, bricks or cinder blocks. If your stove is on legs or stilts there will be a minimum air clearance of 24 inches between any hot surface of the stove and the ground. 13) All food storage containers must be at least 18 inches above the ground. 14) No Alcoholic beverages are allowed. 15) smoking should be done according to BSA policy. 16) Do not trench around your tents. A ground cloth should be between the ground and your tent. It should not, however, be sticking out around the edges. 17) Gateways and campsite gadgets are encouraged. Please bring all necessary rope, poles etc. 18) Come ready to have fun. Find out what you know, where you need help and most of all have fun.

8 CUB SCOUT DENS Cub Scout Leaders: This is the event for your Cub Scout den and their parents. During the day on Saturday there will be friendly competition between dens of Wolfs and Bear Cubs Scouts. Cub Scouts may camp overnight Saturday only. Remember per Boy Scout regulations, Cub Scouts may only stay overnight with a parent in attendance. If you plan to stay for the day, please try to stay for the evening Campfire Program. Cubs can complete a few electives and requirements during Cubporee. Ribbons will be awarded based on the number of points earned during the competition. Come ready to have fun and show how much you already know! The events are designed to test the knowledge already gained and is doesn't serve as a teaching aid. Use the registration Form and be sure to indicate that you are a Den unit. Each participant must have two (2)-completed copies of the Medical Release Form. One is to be carried in the left breast pocket during the Cubporee; the other form is to be turned in at the time of your registration for the nurse's use in the event of an emergency. Be sure all leaders and patrol leaders are aware of any major medical concerns such as (diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, allergies etc.) and that General Headquarters (HQ) is informed at checkin. Remember to make sure all participants have their TEN ESSENTIALS and ONE compass per den: Don't forget only those that have earned the Whittling Chip may carry a pocketknife, otherwise all others may carry a piece of paper with the word "knife ". Be sure to have the proper parent to Cub ratio during the day (5:1) and a parent for each boy overnight. The Cubporee staff will provide the program, but each den will provide for their own accommodations, food, cooking, cleanup, etc. Although your campsite will not be judged as competition you will be expected to know and follow correct camping procedures. 10 Uniform Inspection Webelos & Cub Scouts General Appearance: Allow 2 points for each: good posture, clean face and hands, hair combed, neatly dressed 10 points max. Cap: Official Cub Scout or Webelos Cap Activity badges may be worn on the light blue portion of the cap or on colors (this should be uniform throughout the patrol) 2 points max. Neckerchief & Slide: Official Wolf; Bear, or Webelos neckerchief to be worn according to group they belong. Slide is to be official Cub Scout or Webelos slide, or to be uniform throughout the patrol if homemade or if simply tied in a square knot. 2 points max. Shirt: Official Blue shirt for Cub Scouts, either blue or tan for Webelos (Do Not mark down far mixed colors in patrol - this option is often left to the parents to determine and may be a cost factor) If tan shirt is worn blue shoulder loops are to be worn on epaulets. All shirts are to be clean and serviceable, all buttons fastened. 10 points max. Belt: Official Blue belt ( or olive for Webelo s). It should be cut to the proper length and not left hanging down, should be worn through all loops. Sports belt loops worn only on the blue belt Cub Scout buckle for Wolves & Bears. The Webelos belt buckle is recommended for Webelos, but do not mark down if they wear the Cub Scout buckle. 2 points max. Pants/shorts: Preferred: Official blue or olive if wearing tan shirt 10 points Optional: Matching pants 8 points No pattern - each different 5 points Some units do not require the purchase of Scout pants. If this is the case entire patrol should be uniform - all black jeans, etc. All pants should be clean, serviceable, and buttoned or zipped. 10 points max. Socks: If shorts are worn official Scout socks should be worn. Either blue & gold for blue uniform or green & red socks in olive uniform. If socks cannot be seen in uniform give full value regardless of what type are worn. 2 points max. Shoes: leather or canvas, tennis shoes are OK. Shoes should be neat and clean - no holes. 2 points max. Registration: Current membership card on person 2 points max. Insignia: Correct placement as per Cub Scout Uniform Inspection Sheet # points max.

11 EASTSHORE CAMPGROUNDS SAN DIMAS, CA. Camping Section T-100 T-200 & Wilderness Area Eastshore Campground is located at 1440 Camper View Rd in San Dimas. Eastshore is located above the shores of Puddingstone Lake within Frank G. Bonelli Regional County Park. Restroom facilities have flush toilets and include hot and cold shower facilities conveniently located near the Campsites. Vehicle traffic to and from the park is fully permitted at all hours. Campers are allowed to park their vehicles in designated sections of the park. No water activity event is scheduled and the lake area will not be available during the Cubporee event. The grass is seasonal and the rolling hills will assist to divide our Camporee participants from the Cubporee members. Some campsites have fire rings and may be used by those allowed to host campfires. Equipment is not to be carried from the parking area by use of a vehicle-vehicles are not permitted to drive on the grass.
