3 Regular Baronial Gatherings Fighters Practice: Wednesdays at 6:45 PM: Fighters Practice is held at New Horizons School in Pasco. Fighters Practice includes practice for heavy armored combat and rapier combat. Nonfighters are encouraged to attend, bring projects to work on, observe and ask questions. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Sir Dyon at for more information. Check the calendar, and watch the lists for updates. Wastekeep fighters will travel to Vulcanfeldt for a joint practice on 4 th Wednesday of this month. Vulcanfeldt practices are held at 6:30 on Wednesday at Growers Supply, 202 South Division St., Toppenish, WA. Saturday, April 7 Baronial Armoring/Arts Workshop The Barony will be holding another armoring Saturday at the home of Their Excellencies, Meghan and Ulrik. If you have projects to work on, or things you need help with, bring them along. Armoring will start at 10 AM at Master Ulrik s garage at 3319 W. John Day Ave in Kennewick. Mistress Marcia will be coordinating a gambeson workshop the same day. The gambeson workshop will start at 1 PM in Master Ulrik s basement. If you would like to learn the ins and outs of making one, for a YAC or heavy fighter, stop by. 3

It is here that upcoming activities are planned, budgets are discussed, etc. All are welcome to contribute ideas. 5 Hopping Phules/Baronesses War April 13-15, Barony of Vulkanfeldt, Fullbright Park 4508 Main Street, Union Gap, WA, An Tirians, join us to win word fame for your Barony, or for the participating Baroness of your choice. There will be war scenarios galore, a fencing tournament, arts and sciences display and contest, a tournament of Champions on Sunday, activities too numerous to mention! There is a scribal contest, for information please contact Raasmus at raasmus@fairpoint.net. Merchants are welcome, no merchant fee applies. There probably will not be any potable water or modern restrooms available, depending on weather. There are a number of grocery stores and motels within easy distance of the site. Site is discreetly wet, and all mundane laws apply. Site fee: $12 for adults, $8 for youth age 5-16, children 5 & under free. $5 NMS fee does apply. Day fee-$10 for adults, $6 for youth, NMS fee applies also. Family cap of $40. Site: Fullbright Park, 4508 Main Street, Union Gap, WA Directions: Take your best route to Yakima WA. If coming from the east, take Exit 38 to Union Gap, bear right onto Hwy 97. Fullbright Park turnoff is at the top of the overpass on your right. If coming from the west, take Exit 37 to Union Gap. Enjoy the snazzy new roundabouts, and turn left at the first stop light. This should put you on Main Street. Continue through Union Gap and take the exit for Hwy 97. 6 A Word from Our Seneschal Greetings Wastekeep, GREENWOOD...GREENWOOD...GREENWOOD! We are still in the need of an autocrat for this event. The date is June 24 th and 25 th. Greenwood is our fundraiser event that will help pay for future sites, prizes, supplies for officers, etc. IF you are interested in being the autocrat for this event please send HL Ysbabella an at OFFICERS!!! If you have not sent in your budget please make sure you bring it with you to the April council meeting or send it to Companion Inguz and to your Seneschal. No budget submitted means you are not able to get anything for your office for the year... so take a few minutes and submit it as soon as possible. Please remember to bring your own gear to the archery range - bow, arrows, arm bracer, glove/tab, etc. Kingdom law has recently changed and hosting locations are not allowed to have loaner gear available. A &S Championship - Alas our A&S Champion Cler will not be able to attend Honor War, but Phelan has stepped in to help. Kingdom A&S judging forms will be used. Entrants have the option of presenting for 5 minutes during court as part of their entry (don t have to, just can t get quite as many points). Bardic Championship - Will be held after dark around a camp fire to be announce on Saturday. Homebrew Championship - Brewing will be either right before or right after court or during court if not many A&S entries. Rapier Championship - Will be Sunday morning. Rapier inspections at 10am. Rapier Tournament starts at 10:30am. COPPER DRAGON CHALLENGE for all of you that enjoy solving riddles plus the extra challenge of a scavenger hunt, HL Aerngaldra will have more details forthcoming. Are you up to the challenge? CLASSES - If you have an interesting class that you would like to teach, then please contact Tova. Lord Takakane will have classes in Tablet Weaving sometime on Saturday and Sunday. PARKING - Will be be in the big field beyond the C-loop campground. Vehicles will park on the right side of the dirt road. All vehicles will need to display a Honor War SCA Parking pass. SITE TOKENS - Yes, we will be having lampwork glass beads again for site tokens. So come add to your Honor War bead collection. MERCHANTS: All vendors will either need to have an Idaho Vendor's license or fill out the handy dandy Temporary Idaho Vendors permit the autocrat will supply. The Barony of Wastekeep is hosting its annual Springfest event this year on June It will be held at the lovely Sacajawea State Park. We will be having our champion tournaments in Heavy, Rapier, Youth Combat and of course adult and Jr Archery. If you are the current champion please contact the autocrat. I am also looking for anyone who is willing to teach a class on cooking, embroidery, card weaving, lucetting, etc please send your name and what you would like to teach to the autocrat. If you would like to run a contest in something fun, riddles, hide the ugly mundane thing, siege cooking etc also please contact the autocrat. 9 Wastekeep Baronial Council Minutes March 8, 2012 Attendance: Ysabella, Rowland, Jurik, Mairghread, Roth, Catriona, Dyon, Phillip, Ulrik, Meghan, Inguz, Audra, Annabelle, Rowena, Svana, Steinbjorn, Brandy, Elijah, Arndis, Xarrmon, Desi, Marcia, Victoria, Gudrun, Kora, Lili, Thorkell, Rynnar, and John the Mundane (John was present just at the opening.) Call to order: The meeting was called to order by the Seneschal at 6:35 at Round Table Pizza in Pasco. Words for the populace: John the Mundane updated us on Rosamund s condition and reminded us that he hopes to carry on Rosamund s goal to practice Random Acts of Kindness. He plans to show up once in awhile with some surprises. Minutes: The minutes of the February meeting were approved as presented. Old Business: Pavilion repair/replacement: Committee needs to get the measurement of the old poles, and test the water proofing materials. They still need to set another meeting date. Springfest: Contracts are being signed and mailed off for Springfest and Baron s. $100 is the cost for the insurance for the 2 events. Actual site fee of $500 per event includes a $20 reservation fee for use, so the cost is really $480. There should be some sort of a shower by Springfest (where the old restroom building burned) but the flushies won t be done until at least Baron s. If anyone would like to run a class, let Ysabella know. She has a schedule set up and will get it out soon after the Baron & Baroness approve it. Greenwood: We need a volunteer to autocrat. It is June 24 &25. Meghan asked if we could have a team of autocrats, which would be fine. Officer s budgets: $ was approved for Officers expenses so far. (For details, see the minutes of the Budget Committee in this issue.) Any others who haven t submitted them please get them in. Ysabella has turned in the budget for Springfest. Seneschal: Thanks to Officers for turning in their reports. Contracts and insurance are being sent in for upcoming events. Next month s meeting is in Akornebir at 7 PM. Baron & Baroness: Their Excellencies are on their way back from San Francisco. They reported that they had fun hosting Sir Lachlan and his lady for a fighting workshop on footwork. 10 heavies showed up for the practice. Phillip will be putting up some highlight videos from the workshop. They are looking for archers for upcoming wars, so go to armoring if you need help. Sgts is coming up but don t have many candidates so far. Trials will be held on August 11 at Their Excellencies of Vulcanfeldt s. They would like to encourage current Sgts.to begin hosting training evenings to mentor aspiring candidates. 9

10 Reeve: She picked up statement today. We have $ in checking and in savings $5, Our share of the Kingdom s legal settlement fees have been paid out of that, in the amount of $ Our Financial Committee will be holding quarterly financial meetings. She turned in the Doomday report. It was $4.48 off and that $4.48 just couldn t be found on our end. She is still looking for a deputy. Chronicler: Nothing new to report (NNTR) Web Master: Website is down, was attacked by a bot. Should be back up soon. Chief Scribe: If you have scrolls near completion, let her know. Combat Marshal: We had visitors from Wealdsmere this week and they will be back next week for a joint practice. Armoring workshop this weekend, starting at 10:00 at Ed s. If you have a gambuson that you like, bring it and Marcia is working on creating a pattern for a loaner gambuson or 2. We might be missing a pair of gauntlets from the new loaner armor. It was only used at practice so they might have gotten in someone else s bag. We need to check with Rolf to make sure that there were actually gauntlets with the set. YAC: He looked at the lacrosse helmets, and looked for used ones. It s only $5 less for the used ones. They are $115 each. About $250 with shipping for 2. He would like to have 2 purchased to belong to the Barony. They would need to have a piece of leather on the back of the neck. The motion passed unanimously. We will buy white ones and paint them half blue. He will bring a pattern for knees and elbows this weekend. He would like a deputy who also has a background check. Lists: NNTR. She is ill tonight. Chatelaine: We ve had a good turnout for practices, with some new faces. He is going to have a good quantity of brochures printed, maybe Jack suggested double checking if the kingdom still w Gold Key: NNTR Greteboke: NNTR A&S: Marcia was elected to be the new A&S person. She will take over immediately. Family Activities Coordinator: She will have some activities for Springfest. Dean of Pages: She would like to know if Sgts and pages could meet this Sunday. 11 Librarian: A couple of new donations came in from Victoria. He hasn t decided on a date for the second sorting of the books. On another topic: Xxarmon asked if we advertised the position of Seneschal and announced a major vote. We will go back and check through the minutes. And can advertise this month if needed. Canton: They had 2 rapier fighter and 4 archers for an informal practice last Sunday. It was their first practice in years. Gudrun and Heather Stearns are both interested in combat archery and are doing some practice each Sunday. Newcomers is going to be a potluck because half of their members will be out of the area. Announcements: Oasis War:They are only having it at Oasis Park. Nothing back at the building. Heavy scenarios will be at Skeggi s whim! Ysabella is running gate. The next meeting will be April 12 th in Walla Walla. More info on location will come out later. Attention!!!! The office of Seneschal is open. 12 Financial Committee Meeting Minutes Date: March 8, :40 pm called to order Attendance by: Ysabella Greene, Inguz Miksdottir, Mairghread of Wastekeep, Gudrun (sitting in for Katherine of Akornebir) Discussion of officer 2012 budgets: Seneschals requested $ Chiurgeon Requested $30.00 Chief Scribe requested $ 200 Marshall requested $225 Youth Armor Combat requested $500 (which will put two sets of armor together) Chatelaine requested $300 (estimated 1000 copies of brochures) Didn t see a problem with the requests; however will be waiting for the Heralds, Exchequer, Chronicler, Arts and Sciences, family coordinator, librarian and Great Boke to turn in their budgets before going for approval with the barony. Approval for Springfest budget was approved, monies will be asked for at April meeting. Mairghread has made a new report form for autocrats to use in their final report, it breaks things down easier for the autocrats and will be added to the website as soon as website is up and running. She will be sending copy of form to Ysabella to put with future autocrat packets. Inguz brought up the idea of having quarterly meetings set up so people know about them in advance. Those dates are as followed: June 14 th, September 13 th and December 13th meeting at 5:30. We can have other meetings if they are needed too. Next meeting we will be going over gate procedures and forms. Meeting adjourned 6:05 pm May Crown Volunteers Needed! The countdown is on 'til May Crown!
