We have lots of local resources where you can find material and baubles to create and decorate your garb or make accessories and feast gear. For every day summer garb, linen is the most popular, but it can be expensive. Look for sales or use coupons whenever you can. It s worth the price. Linen keeps you cool and has just the right period look for most styles. There are different weights of linen; lightweight is good, but it can be too transparent if you don t wear any layers underneath. Brianna is keeping an eye out on the calendar for any changes. For the Good of the Order: State Street construction is going to start very soon. Takaya will get the final recipes to her. - Katrin brought in small versions of the map, schedule, and feast sign-up sheet. - Takaya confirmed that we are doing 8 tables with 8 seats, but we should add one more table for head table and their Excellencies can decide who will sit with them if we have no royalty present. - We need to add hound coursing to the site map and schedule. - Nicolai will do field heraldry and MC Feast, but he has no plans for a consult table. Nighthawk might set up a table in the A-Frame. - Nicolai needs to return the large herald s tabard since he now has his own. Dani has the baronial inventory, so he needs to contact her. Notes taken by Marie (Gina), transcribed by Katrin Page 5

Pieter and a few others have arranged trucks and manual labor. - We have four merchants signed up for the event. - Katrin needs to add the falconer to space #7 on the map and send that to Ursus for the website. We still need to get the falcon demo times for the schedule. - There are no known classes as of yet, just the A&S take and make demo stuff. - We discussed bringing easels for the display boards. Katrin will bring her sign making kit in case we need last minute items. - Token braids and coins are still being made. Brianna would like all of the braids back to her by the 17th so they can add the coins. Mosey Do we need to purchase a pop up tent for the barony to use for events like Mosey? Malie and Adhamh purchased a 10X10 tent last year to use at Mosey so we are covered for now. There were offers of tables to use as well. Meeting Minutes for members in attendance Event Reports: Pieter attended Stone Dog. Chronicler & Herald Turned in their quarterly reports. They are particularly interested in his research. - We discussed the possibility of having a specialty archery event. Pieter offered his property for use. We will discuss that idea at later date. Bardic Madness Event? Malie said she was approached again to do bardic madness this year in the fall, maybe October. He will send out an and Facebook page invitation for people to volunteer. - There will be some decorating in the feast hall. We need to locate all of the banners that have been used in various demos throughout the year. If you have one, let one of the officers know so we can gather those back up. - Do we have targets sturdy enough for someone to do a cross bow demonstration? Yes? The archery group and Moowulf will bring what targets they have to the event. - Brianna and Percival planned to have 200 plus a few extra tokens for site. Coise says she still has cards from last year we can also use if we get more than 200 people. - Brianna volunteered to cash the check to seed the cash box for troll. Pictures from s Garb Supplies cont. (Cont. from page 1) 100% cotton is the next best thing. You can find it in a variety of colors and finishes. Some are shiny and work well for fancy garb, but they don t breathe as well as linen in the summer. Cotton Muslin can be super cheep, but it tends to have lots of flaws. This is a good starter fabric and good for making patterns or under garments. Linen/cotton with synthetic blends all have their uses and work well for garb. Experiment with smaller items like tunics and pants before investing in larger projects until you know what blends work best for you. Stay away from 100% synthetics as you ll roast in the summer sun and Midwest humidity. It might work for the ten-foot rule, but there s a good chance you ll toss it after your first event. For camping events, water repellent wool cloaks and blankets are your best friend when the temperature suddenly drops at night and everything is covered in condensation. At thrift shops, you can sometimes find old curtains or prom dresses with beautiful heavy brocade designs that can be repurposed into bodices, tunics, and pouches. We also have local festivals like the Feast of the Hunter s Moon. It s geared towards mid-1700s reenactment, but it is loaded with SCA period useful stuff like fabric, leather, beads, animal fur and more. Once you decide on a favorite time period or culture, you'll start seeing fabric and accessories in all kinds of second hand things. Of course nowadays, we have access to that magical thing called the internet where you can find darn near anything. It still wouldn t hurt to check with your friendly neighborhood crafters before buying ten yards of hot pink taffeta. Those loud colors and prints might be period, but if it s not used properly, you ll end up looking like a Cirque du Soleil reject. If you find that you re all knots when it come to sewing, check out online SCA yard sales for good deals on used garb and armor or find your local seamstresses. Rivenstar has lots of talent from garb making, leather working, embroidery, tablet weaving, and more. Ask Rocky, our Chatelaine, about loaner garb to get you started. Don t be shy!
