1 6/22/2018 This Week s News We had a great first session at camp and we hope you had fun too! Limited space is still available for our 3 rd Session this summer, so if you are interested, register soon! Registration for Summer 2019 will begin in early December. HELP US MAKE CAMP EVEN BETTER! Claim your items at the Community Center under the porch. Items left over are donated to charity. Today was MEDIEVAL DAY! The last day of first session. We had a parade where Seniors campers picked up younger campers and brought them up to the High Meadow where there were several booths run by Seniors castles, CITs, and Specialists. After lunch, we gathered again for an All Camp Livestock where the best talents from around camp had their opportunity to shine.

2 Construction Update: The new barns for our animals have been delivered and crews are currently working on assembling them as well as adding floors and roofs. Weather permitting, the animals will be back on campus sometime within the next two weeks, and they will need time adjusting to their new space before we resume pony rides. Additionally, the new parking lot near the Community Center was completed and has given our campus over thirty additional parking spaces. We are expecting delivery soon of the fence and goals for the new basketball court. Trees have been delivered and landscaping of the disturbed areas has begun. Class Highlight: WOODWORKING ~ This activity is for both Seniors and Super Seniors. Super Senior campers learn the basics of woodworking and the use of tools through the completion of their choice of six different projects such as wooden sailboats and airplanes. Senior campers engage in more complex tasks, which include tree identification, more advanced tool usage and project design/completion using wood gathered from the forest. This week s value was RESPONSIBILITY! This week our featured camp value is Responsibility. High Meadows campers understand and appreciate their responsibility to the environment, to their community and to others. High Meadows campers practice personal responsibility and feel ownership of their actions and achievements at camp. Questions to discuss with your camper: What is responsibility? What does responsibility look like? How do we feel when we act responsibly? What is our responsibility to the environment, to others and to our community? What is personal responsibility? 3 ~ Jan Our Unit Choice for this past Wednesday 6/20 was Pajama Day! We finished our Ants t-shirts and they look awesome. ~ Dani Our Unit Choice for this past Wednesday 6/20 was Superhero Day! Thanks for an amazing First Session!! ~ Kaela, Celena, and Travis Our Unit Choice for this past Wednesday 6/20 was Space Jam Wednesday! To celebrate, we made Galaxy Pudding Cups for Snack that day. In Discovery, we made instruments and used them to play our favorite camp songs.

4 ~Jennifer and Ryan Our Unit Choice for this past Wednesday 6/20 was Halloween Costume Day! Congratulations to all of our campers who successfully completed the No TV Challenge. ~ Annie, Tina, and Warren Quest had a great time at the Lake Allatoona beach on Monday. We built sand castles and cooled off in the water on a hot day! Quest also had an amazing late night on Tuesday. After going through activity rotations that included an Escape room and the Human Knot, we took a dip in the pool, ate a nice Taco Bar dinner, and finished the night with s mores and camp songs around the fire. Our Unit Choice for this past Wednesday 6/20 was Disney/ Pixar Day! We had our Arts Show on Thursday where campers from the Woodworking, Arts and Crafts, Dance, and Performing Arts classes got to show off their hard work from the session.

5 CIT Corner ~ Hannah and Andy Our Unit Choice for this past Wednesday 6/20 was Character Day! This week, CITs helped prep and serve dinner at the Senior Quest late night, shared their experiences in units, and focused on marketing and public speaking skills by working in small groups. The end of the session is always bittersweet. However, some of our CITs will be joining us again next session for additional skill and leadership development! We have just wrapped up this session with a Medieval skit for the whole camp. We are excited for new experiences next session with a different group of CITs!
