2 CABLE GRAM November Monthly Newsletter Tenants Corner: Noise and our neighbors Periodically, the Airport Office receives noise complaints from our surrounding neighborhoods. While, many times, when told of the complaints, people's first reaction is the noise must be coming from the T-6s on the field. And, yes, those airplanes have generated a complaint or two; however, they are not the airplanes the neighbors are calling about most often. They seem to have a tendency to call about the various GA airplanes we have on the field. When the Airport Office receives these complaints, staff attempts to ascertain which airplane and the potential cause of the noise such as RWY 6 in use, airplane too low on final and needs power, etc. They have found that most noise complaints are about airplanes on on base or final. This seems odd since most planes will have throttled back on the power. Staff will explain the pattern and where in the pattern more noise can be expected. And, if needed, staff will invite the neighbor to the airport to gain a better understanding of airport operations and the process of flying into and out of CCB. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Roger Bailey My path to Cable airport began in 1996 after moving to Upland from Riverside, where we were living not far from Flabob. At the time, I was flying for the Air Force Reserves at March AFB in the KC-135 and eventually moving to the KC-10 as well as flying as a First Officer with Jet America/Alaska Airlines. I was unaware of Cable airport, but as soon as the dust settled from the move, I started acquainting myself with the local area and, like a mirage appearing in the desert, there it was! My aviation oasis! Soon after, I joined the EAA and became an active airport member. As a First Officer with Alaska and with an upcoming family, I realized that the best way for me to reach my goal as an airplane owner was to build one. I decided on an airplane similar to the 1941 J-4 I had gotten my private license in back in Eventually I selected an Avid Magnum, mostly because it has folding wings, but also because it had the most room in the cockpit of all the kits on the market at the time. Never having been a small person, this appealed to me. When the Avid project got too big for my garage, I came across the opportunity to rent hangar #64 at Cable. It has been my man cave ever since. I have had a second Avid project in the works for a while. It will fly with an IO-360, modified with electronic fuel injection and ignition. Most recently, my mags timed out on the first Avid, so I am replacing them with electronic ignition as well. After a whole bunch of hours and years with Alaska Airlines, the max age rule has forced me to retire from commercial flying and has allowed me near resident status at the airport. If the flag is out, I m around somewhere. My collection of recliners on wheels is will known and I welcome anyone with a good story and a little time, to stop by. What I like about Cable is the friendly, family atmosphere and the limitless amount of talented aviation people who eagerly give their advice. Sometimes you don t even have to ask them! With the presence of chapter 448 of the EAA and the skills/knowledge of the residents of Cable, there can t be a better place to build and fly an airplane. cableairportccb Serving the General Aviation Community over 70 years cableairport
3 November Message from the Office Please wait for the gate to close behind you! We have had several instances here on the Airport where cars are hitting or being clipped by the entry and exit gates. To avoid damage being done to your personal property and in order to avoid anyone trying to sneak on to the Airport grounds we ask that upon entering and exiting the Airport that you pull forward and wait until the gate closes behind you. The gates do have sensors on them but if you are in a rush and trying to race the gate we guarantee that the reaction time of the sensor will not be to your liking. Please help us in keeping the Airport a safe place to be. Volunteers Needed! Cable Air Show Media Day January 13th Cable Air Show January 14th and 15th If you are interested in aviation, cars or just want to help serve and support the community, we could use your help. Come help the whole weekend, one day or whatever time you have. Volunteers will be provided with food each of the three days. The Cable Air Show is a great event to be a part of! If interested in helping, please contact Steven Cable Work#: ; Cell# scable@cableairport.com
