2 2 Page 2 Featured Officer of the Month for December, 2018: Sgt. Lloyd Mar n. Sgt. Lloyd Mar n is the embodiment of San Francisco s finest. A member of the 173 rd Lateral Recruit Class, he is five months away from 25 years of dedicated service in the San Francisco Police Department. He has served at a variety of assignments, including 6 years at Ingleside Sta on and 4 years as the Housing Unit team leader has been a banner year for excellence for Sgt. Mar n. From his heroic work at the Amazon Barber Shop, to leadership at the Balboa High School incident, to collabora ng with the Sunnydale, Alemany, and Holly Courts neighborhoods each and every day to strengthen public safety and the Department s rela onship with various communi es, his outstanding dedica on knows no limits. For all that he has done for us in 2018, he has been honored by the SFPD, the SFFD, the Board of Supervisors, and the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center. In spite of the stress and challenges this year, you will recognize Sgt. Mar n with his permanent, beaming smile, and you will find him in 2019 (and beyond) con nuing to care deeply about his work, his coworkers, and our community. We could not be more grateful to know him, work with him, and be friends with this incredibly compassionate, wonderful human being that relentlessly serves and sacrifices for us residents, visitors, and merchants in the Ingleside district.

3 3 Page 3 Featured Community Member of the Month for December, 2018: Edward Whitmore. Mr. Edward Whitmore is a tremendous leader, connector, and advocate for the Bernal Heights & Holly Park neighborhoods. He has lived in San Francisco since 1977 and Bernal Heights since He is a passionate advocate for public safety, community wellness, and neighborhood resiliency. He also has the tremendous ability to connect deeply with others. He always shows up and can make people laugh, blending a hard working ethos with an upli ing spirit (no ce his prepara ons for the zombie apocalypse). He embodies what he believes by being a dedicated NERT volunteer since 2001, an SFPD ALERT volunteer, and an SF SAFE neighborhood watch block captain. We are grateful for his partnership in suppor ng the recent Holly Park block party and community resiliency summit at Ingleside Sta on and are looking forward to partnering with him in 2019 on future public safety/community policing endeavors.

4 4 Page 4 Upcoming N.E.R.T events in our Ingleside Bernal South Neighborhood Starting August 14, 2018 N.E.R.T is providing a series of 6 evening classes on Tuesday s. The start time is 06:30pm, and the location will be the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (515 Cortland Avenue). Saturday, September 8, 2018 a neighborhood block party will be held on the 100 block of Park Street. A staging drill may be held Saturday September 22, 2018 at 11:00am. 5 5 Page 5 Incidents: Incident Date Monday, December 3 rd, 2018 Arrests: 6:00am-3:22pm Unit Blk. Kingston Stolen Vehicle Ingleside Officers George and Scott were on routine patrol when they spotted a motor scooter without plates. They stopped the driver who claimed he found the Yamaha scooter and decided to fix it up. The officers used the VIN # to contact the registered owner who was out of town. He said he didn t give anyone permission to use the scooter which was parked near his residence. The thief was arrested and searched at the scene where officers discovered a quantity of crystal methamphetamine. He was taken to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: Serious Incidents: 12:47pm Mission & Trumbull Theft A woman sitting on the bus, near the driver, had her cellphone snatched from her hand by another passenger. The victim told Ingleside Officers Peralta and Chan that the suspect ran off the bus when it stopped at Trumbull Street. She briefly chased after him but stopped when she realized her other valuables were still on the bus. The officer requested security footage of the incident from Muni officials. Report number: :17pm 600 Blk. San Jose Suspicious Act A woman walking home after being dropped off by a ride share driver was suddenly confronted by an unknown man. The victim told Ingleside Officers Quinlan and Noh, the suspect followed her as she walked up to her front gate. He said hello and the victim responded with hello. Just then, the suspect exposed himself as the victim entered her home. He ran and boarded a scooter which sped away. Report number:

6 6 Page 6 Incidents: Incident Date Sunday, December 2 nd, 2018 Arrests: There are no arrests to report. Serious Incidents: 10:30am Mission & Persia Theft A Good Samaritan helped a woman recover her cellphone and was hurt during the process. The victim told Ingleside Officers Gonzalez and Cornejo that he was riding a Muni bus when it stopped at Mission and Brazil. He looked out the window and saw a woman arguing with two men who had stolen her cellphone. The passenger got off the bus and chased after the two suspects catching up with them after a short distance. He punched one of the suspects in the face, hurting his hand, and fell down injuring his knee. But he did recover the woman s cellphone. He was treated at the scene by medics. The officers broadcast a description of the suspects to all units. Report number:

7 7 Page 7 Incidents: Incident Date Saturday, December 1 st, 2018 Arrests: 12:25am Bosworth & Diamond Robbery A man, sitting at a bus stop, was suddenly approached by several young men. One of them asked for the victim s cellphone. When he said no they grabbed the phone and ran away. A short time later, the victim flagged down Ingleside Officers Quinlan, Siracusa, and Wise who broadcast a description of the suspects and began searching the area for them. The search proved fruitful as two of the suspects were spotted under the overpass at Boswell and Lyell Streets. They were quickly taken into custody and the cellphone was returned to the victim. Both suspects were booked for robbery and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center for booking. Report number: :44Am Alemany & Seneca D.U.I Ingleside Officers Parker and Quevedo were dispatched to a report of an accident involving a collision with a parked car. At the scene the officers found the driver of the car that hit the parked vehicle smelling of alcohol. A witness, who called police, said the driver was in his car after the collision and appeared to be asleep. The officers had the driver perform a roadside sobriety test. He failed. He agreed to take a breath alcohol test which showed a level more than twice the legal limit. The suspect was transported to the county jail and booked for DUI. Report number: :45pm Mission & College Avenues D.U.I Ingleside Officers Mc Call and Lozano were dispatched to another accident involving a vehicle which struck a parked car. When they arrived on scene the officers found the owner of the parked car being treated by medical personnel. He told the officers the driver who hit his car ran over his foot during an aborted escape. The officers interviewed the driver who appeared intoxicated. He admitted to drinking a pitcher of margaritas earlier that evening. The officers noted and watched as the driver swayed and stumbled through the roadside sobriety test. He was taken to Mission Station where a phlebotomist drew a blood sample later placed into evidence. The suspect was then transported to the county jail for booking. Report number: Serious Incidents: 9:43pm Mission & Geneva Homicide Several Ingleside and other department units were called to a report of a fight involving three and possibly more suspects and one homicide victim. The victim was driven to San Francisco General Hospital by friends where he succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses and passersby described the suspects and the officers also obtained surveillance and cell phone video important to the investigation which is continuing. Report number:

8 8 Page 8 Incidents: Incident Date Friday, November 30 th, 2018 Arrests: There are no arrests to report. Serious Incidents: 9:20am Nebraska & Powhattan Terrorist Threats An angry man threatened construction workers with a knife. The victim told Ingleside Officers Trujillo and Thompson that he and his colleagues were working at construction site when an unknown man double parked blocking the entrance to the site. The victim asked the male driver to please move his car so they could continue working. Instead of complying the suspect got out of his car with a knife and threatened the victim. The suspect then got back into his car and drove at the victim who had to jump out of the way. But it didn t end there. The suspect drove by several times threatening the victim and his workmates and only stopped when the victim picked up a metal pipe and threw it at the suspect s car breaking a window. Report number: :20am 3300 Blk. Mission Theft A man and woman entered Walgreens and started shopping for products. Instead of putting the items in a basket, they placed them in their backpacks and purse. When approached by store employees, the suspects uttered a profanity, and walked out of the store without paying. The loss was gift sets, baby wipes, chips, and unknown other items. Report number:

9 9 Page 9 Incidents: Incident Date Thursday, November 29 th, 2018 Arrests: 12:50pm 700 Blk. Rolph Weapon A dispute between siblings led to the arrest of one of them for illegal possession of weapons. Ingleside Officers Klaib, Carew, Archilla, and Lustenberger were dispatched to a home where the resident said he was threatened by a family member. The officers found the suspect sitting in his car nearby. In one of his pockets was several unfired bullets. In the suspect s trunk were brass knuckles and a loaded firearm. He was arrested for illegal possession of weapons and taken to Ingleside station for booking. Report number: :29pm Gold Mine/Diamond Heights Firearm Ingleside Officers Burke and Downs were on routine patrol when they drove by an older BMW without front license plates. Inside the car were three men. The officers drove around the block and pulled up behind the BMW just as the driver took off at a high rate of speed and not stopping until they turned into a dead end street. At which point, Burke and Downs ordered all three occupants out of the car. Now, with several other Ingleside units there to help, all three occupants were searched. One of the men had a knife in one pocket. Another suspect had a loaded 9mm pistol in his pocket. All three men were taken to Ingleside station. One was booked for illegal possession of a firearm. One other was cited for marijuana and the vehicle code violation. The third man was released. Report number: Serious Incidents: 9:53am Unit Blk. Burr Hot Prowl Burglary A woman, home alone, heard someone ring her doorbell several times. It was an unknown man at her home. Shortly thereafter, two other suspects jumped over her backyard fence and broke the glass on her rear door. The woman called police and Ingleside Officers Marshall and Lamb responded and arrived just after the suspects escaped. Nothing was taken from the home and the officers downloaded security footage from a neighbor which showed the suspects walking up to the home and jumping over the fence. Report number:

10 10 Page 10 Incidents: Incident Date Thursday, November 29 th, 2018 Serious Incidents Continued: 6:38pm Hahn & Sunnydale Robbery A woman sitting alone on the bus, using her cellphone, was suddenly approached by another passenger. The victim told Ingleside Officers Marshall and Lamb that the other passenger attempted to grab the cellphone from her hand. The woman held on for a short time, before the suspect was able to wrench the phone from her possession and escape of the bus. Report number: :05pm 4600 Blk. Mission Robbery Ingleside Officers Wong and Hermosura were dispatched to a report of a street robbery. When they arrived on scene, the victim told the pair she was walking down the street when an unknown man bumped her arm from behind and grabbed her cell phone. The suspect then ran away south on Mission Street. Report number: :00pm Geneva & Mission Robbery A man walked into Ingleside Station to update his earlier report of a robbery. The victim told Ingleside Police Services Aid Bruce that he just discovered several fraudulent transactions on his company credit card. He was unaware that the card was also stolen during a previous cellphone theft. He said he notified his employer and the credit card company which froze his account. Report number:

11 11 Page 11 Incidents: Incident Date Wednesday, November 28 th, 2018 Arrests: 8:45pm 500 Blk. Raymond Marijuana for Sale Neighbors called police after noticing two men sitting in a car for over an hour parked at the end of the block. Ingleside Officers Sherman and Denning arrived and found two men in the front seat and a woman in the back passenger seat. The man in the front passenger seat appeared impaired with blood shot eyes and slurred speech. The suspects told the officers they were just hanging out and that they had more marijuana in the trunk. Indeed there was almost a pound of marijuana packaged for sale and scales to help with the process. All of it was taken back to the station as evidence and one of the occupants of the vehicle was cited for possession of marijuana for sale and released at the scene. Report number: Serious Incidents: 1:54am Britton & Visitacion Robbery A woman walking home after exiting the #91 Muni bus was robbed of her possessions. She told Ingleside Officers Dilag and Lopez Martinez that shortly after getting of the bus an unknown passenger followed her and attacked her from behind. She said he wrapped his right arm around her neck and punched her several times in the face before finally gaining control of her purse and running away. The loss was cash, wallet, debit cards, and identification. Medics treated the victim s injuries at the scene. Report number: :22am 3300 Blk. Mission Robbery Two young women walked into Walgreens and traveled directly to the cosmetic section. Store security watched as the pair loaded items into a bag and started walking toward the entrance. A store employee attempted to stop the pair but was threatened with violence if he didn t let them leave. He wisely let the pair leave and called police. Ingleside Officers Hornstein and Meza arrived and interviewed witnesses and downloaded security footage of the crime. Report number: :52pm Unit Blk. Miraloma Fire An alert neighbor looked out his window and saw flames shooting up from a home nearby. He dialed 911 and soon several fire units were on the scene along with Ingleside Officers Hoge and Cephus. Investigators talked to the owner who said it was undergoing renovation. The cause of the fire is still unknown but may be related to the renovation. Report number:

12 12 Page 12 Incidents: Incident Date Tuesday, November 27 th, 2018 Arrests: There are no arrests to report. Serious Incidents: 8:12pm 900 Blk. Geneva Robbery A Walgreens customer sent the wrong holiday message to his young daughters, tis the season to rob. All the children were believed to be under five years old. The suspect and his five daughters entered the store and began placing toys into the children s backpacks. The father and children tried to leave the store only to be confronted by store security who asked that the toys be removed from the backpacks and paid for. The father then threatened the Walgreen s employee who backed away for fear of her safety. The man and his three children then left the store. Ingleside Officers Hoge and Cephus arrived and interviewed store employees and downloaded security footage of the incident. Report number:
