1 Wednesday, August 26, 2009 Captain's Message: Thanks to Lieutenant Perea, Sergeant Dare, Officers McCarthy, Morrow, Coles and Rand who participated in today's pedestrian sting operation. They focused their efforts on Bosworth and near City College resulting in 33 moving violations for motorists who failed to yield to Officer Morrow while he was in a crosswalk. The Department now has Text A Tip. The anonymous text tips are similar to the anonymous tip phone lines except the crime tip is sent from a cell phone to a computer that is monitored 24 hours a day. The tip will be forwarded to the appropriate investigative section for follow up. Tips that require an immediate response will be forwarded to the Department of Emergency Management for police dispatch. Use the Text A Tip as Follows: Non-Blackberry Cellular Phones -Dial then "Store" -Select to save as "Mobile" contact -The screen will appear to attach a name to the stored number -Name: TIP411 (The mobile number should be attached) -Select Okay -Select "Done" to save it -The number is now stored -Select TIP411 as the address -Menu-Send Message-Select -New Text-Select -The message board will appear -Type SFPD then leave a space -Type your message and then send it -You will receive a reply message in seconds Blackberry Telephones -Similar to above -First you need to add TIP411 to your mobile contact list -Select TIP411 enter -The cursor will be in blue on the #8 (847411) 1

2 -Click the ball and select SMS Text TIP411 -Type your message starting with SFPD (space)... then send -You will receive a response within seconds SF SAFE is hosting a 5K run/walk safety event on Sunday, October 25th in Golden Gate Park. SF Safe provides free personal safety presentations to all ages and groups in a variety of languages in many diverse neighborhoods. We are asking the community to support SF SAFE by registering as a participant to run or walk the 5K. You can do this as an individual or as a team. Visit Thanks to the work of Traffic Company Officers Carcelen, Goff, Kilgariff, Lopez and Acting Sergeant May who on August 25th issued 29 moving violations in Visitacion Valley! Officers Jones and Papale from the Tactical Company, at the direction of Sergeant Martin from the Robbery Detail, arrested a robbery suspect who committed a robbery a couple of weeks ago at Silver and Mission! 3 Arrests: Ingleside Police Station 09:19 am Unit block Eugenia Assault/Warrant Arrest Officer Hart and Officer McCarthy responded to a report of a battery. The officers met with the victim who said that she got into a verbal argument with a roommate which then turned physical. The victim said she was punched down and punched several times. The roommate was arrested for assault and three traffic warrants. Case number :24 pm 900 block Geneva Shoplifting Officer Dominguez and Officer Campbell were dispatched to a report of shoplifting. The witness said that he saw the suspect take 7 items off a shelf and carry them around the store. The suspect then attempted to walk out of the store without paying for the items. The witness then grabbed the suspect and brought him back into the store. The suspect was cited for the offense. Case number :52 pm 100 block Byxbee St Suspended License Officer Rueca stopped a vehicle for having expired registration. The driver was driving with a suspended license and was unable to provide proof of insurance. The driver was cited and the vehicle was towed. Case number Other Incidents: 08:30 am Monterey/Detroit Discharging Firearm Lieutenant Perea was on patrol when he was flagged down by a woman on the sidewalk. The witness said that she was standing at the bus stop when her foot kicked something on the ground. She looked down and saw that it was a bullet casing. The witness also stated that she heard a loud gunshot on the evening of 08/24/09. Lieutenant Perea took possession of the bullet casing and searched the area for damage, but found none. Case number :00 am Unit block Phelan Threatening Phone Calls SF City College Officer Boyko responded to a report of threats being made. The officer met with the victim who said that he received a voic from a person which he interpreted as being threatening in nature. The voic was left by a person who the victim had spoken with earlier in the day. Case number :30 pm Unit block Phelan Theft 3

4 SF City College Officer Sanchez responded to a report of a theft. The victim said that she had gone to the library to use the computers there. The victim set her backpack down on the floor as she used the computer. When she picked her bag up to leave, the victim discovered that her cell phone was missing from the backpack. Case number :45 pm Unit block Cross St Theft from Vehicle PSA Zabarte prepared a report at Ingleside Station regarding a theft from a vehicle. The victim said that he had parked his car in the street overnight. When the victim returned to the car in the morning, he discovered that the interior of his car had been rummaged through. The victim did not see any damage to the exterior of the car, and thought that he might have forgotten to lock it. Case number :21 pm 1800 block San Jose Fraud Officer Frisk responded to a report of fraud. The victim had received a letter which said that she had won a million dollars. The letter advised the victim to contact her "representative," which she had her son do for her. The suspect told the victim's son that she had to send a money order for nearly $3000 in order to release the money. The victim did this, and sent two other payments as well; each for over $2000. The victim was told by her bank that the prize check which was sent to her was counterfeit. Case number :33 pm 300 block La Grande Found Person Officer Hart responded to a report of a found person. Officer Hart met with the found person who stated that she had been living with her legal guardian since her mothers death. The person who reported her missing was her grandfather, who the found person believed was trying to obtain her inheritance. Case number :09 pm 100 block Brewster Theft Officer Hampton responded to a report of a theft. The officer met with the victim who said that she was asleep at a friends house when someone stole $173 out of her purse. The victim said that the only person inside the residence at the time was the roommate of her friend. Case number :23 pm Sunnydale/Hahn Robbery Officer Johnson and Officer Castillo were dispatched to a report of a robbery. The officers met with the victim who said that he was walking down the street after exiting a store and was punched in the head from behind. The suspect then turned and saw two suspects standing behind him. One of the suspects then demanded the victims wallet and put his hands into the 4

5 victims pockets. The suspect stole the victims wallet along with his cell phone. Case number :44 pm Persia/Madrid Attempted Robbery Officer Saari and Officer Dilag were on patrol when they were flagged down regarding an attempted robbery. The victim said that he was waiting at a bus stop when he was attacked by three men. The victim was punched but was able to get up and run away. The three suspects then caught up to the victim and continued to assault him while grabbing at the victims jacket. The victim then broke free again and ran away, yelling for help. The three suspects then fled the scene. Young Lane (415) Thursday, August 27, 2009 Captain's Message: Ingleside Station's Problem Solving Team expanded last weekend! As part of the recommendations in the Phase I Station Implementation Plan, we established a problem solving team. The team's mission is to be a resource to sector and foot beat officers by working on long term problems in the Ingleside District. These officers are dedicated to solving problems and as a result, improving quality of life for residents and reducing calls for service. The problem solving team consists of Officers Hornstein, Williams, Elton, Goldsborough, Brown and McNamara. The team leader is Sergeant Miller. This is the only full time, district wide team in the City. We look forward to their great work and I will report to you on their successes. Ingleside Officers made a great robbery arrest last night in the Excelsior! (See below). 7

One of the women claimed that other had been damaging her own vehicle. The other woman said that this was untrue, and said that the first woman was actually the one who had assaulted her and broke her cell phone. After it was all sorted out, the first woman was cited for battery and vandalism. Case number :15 am Bosworth/Chilton Suspended License Officer Najarro was on patrol when he stopped a vehicle for failing to yield to a pedestrian. The driver was driving with a suspended license. The driver was cited and the vehicle was towed. Case number :12 pm Monterey/Edna Unlicensed Driver Officer Thompson stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation. The driver had not been issued a CA drivers license. The driver was then cited and the vehicle was towed. Case number

9 10:45 pm Naples/Persia Robbery Officer Contreras and Officer Hermosura were on patrol when they were flagged down by a victim of a robbery. The victim pointed out four men who had just robbed him. The officer were able to detain two of the suspects, while the other two continued to leave the scene. Officer Contreras caught up to the other suspects and held them at the scene until back-up arrived. The victim then said that he was walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by the four suspects. One of them held the victim from behind while another demanded the victims property. The suspects took the victims cell phone. They then took his wallet and fled the scene. The victims property was found to be in the possession of the suspects. The suspects were all arrested and charged with robbery and conspiracy. Case number :05 am Park/Leese Tampering with Vehicle Officer Obot and Officer Khan responded to a report of a person possibly breaking into a vehicle. When they arrived, they saw a man stepping out of the drivers seat of a car which had been reported stolen. The officers saw that the car's stereo was sitting on the front seat of the car. The suspect said that the vehicle belonged to someone else. He was transported to Ingleside Station for further investigation, where he was later cited for tampering with a vehicle. Case number Other Incidents: 07:00 am 900 block Ellsworth Burglary Officer Coles was dispatched to a report of a burglary. She met with the victim who said that she fell asleep inside her apartment and woke up to find that two money orders, a leather jacket and some medication were missing. The victim talked to a neighbor who said that he saw a woman enter the apartment and remain inside for a while before leaving. The victim said that this woman did not have permission to be inside the apartment. Case number :43 pm 200 block Blythdale Hit and Run Officers Peregoy, Murphy,Trail and Park were on patrol when they found a vehicle which was believed to have been involved in a hit and run incident on 8/25/09. The vehicle matched the description given, including the license plate and the damage to the vehicle consistent with the collision. The officers met with the owner who claimed that she came home yesterday and found her car like that. The vehicle was then towed. Case number :20 pm Unit block Patton St Vandalism 9

10 Officer Quintero and Officer Naval were on patrol when they were flagged down regarding vandalism to a car. The victim said that his brother had damaged the front window and rear-view mirrors of his car as a part of an on-going family dispute. Case number :15 pm 2000 block Geneva Pound Person Officer Antonian and Officer Campbell were dispatched to a report of a found person. They met with the woman who said that she had been with a friend and had not been the victim of any crimes. Case number :15 pm 100 block Ney Vandalism Officer Leong and Officer Kabanuck responded to a report of vandalism. The officers met with the victim, who had found a hole in her window and wanted to know if it was caused by a bullet. After inspection, the officers determined that the hole was not caused by gunfire. Case number :03 pm 500 block Campbell Disturbing the peace Officer Saari and Officer Dilag responded to a report of threats being made. The victim said that she had been told by a man who she was having a dispute with that he was going to shoot her house up. The suspect was found by the officers in the area. The officers met with him and searched he and his room for weapons. The victim requested only a police report. Case number :16 am Sunnydale/Santos Shooting into Dwelling Officer Saari and Officer Dilag were handling another call when they heard gunfire in the area. They drove to the area and found a large patch of broken glass. A victim then called in to say that a bullet had gone through her front door, but she was uninjured. Another witness said that after hearing the gunshots, he saw a Chevy van leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. Case number :30 am 1900 block Burrows Vandalism Officer Apodaca and Officer Lozano were dispatched to a report of vandalism. The officer met with the victim who said that she returned home from running an errand when she noticed her residence windows damaged. The officers found one of the windows to have been damaged by a BB gun and the other to have been broken by a small rock. Case number Vehicle Incidents: 10

13 Friday, August 28, 2009 Captain's Message: During the month of September and October, Officers assigned to Ingleside Station will receive training in Community Policing, Community Engagement, Problem Solving, Gangs, Interviewing and working with the Youth. We are committed to providing quality training to Ingleside Station officers so that they may better serve the Ingleside Community. Scam Alert! 13

14 It is my goal to continue to provide updated information on scams occurring in our community. I am thankful for Lieutenant Cassanego's series last week describing many of the common scams. An elderly resident was recently scamed when someone sent the victim a letter stating that she won a $1,000,000 dollar sweepstakes. The company asked the victim that she contact them to coordinate delivery of the check. The victim spoke with a woman who said that she would send her the check and in turn, would have to send her (the suspect) $2,900 for the processing fee. The victim received the check, deposited it in her account and sent the $2,900. The bank notified the victim that the check was fraudulent. 15 11:25 am 50 Phelan Disabled Placard Violation Officer Edwards (SFCCPD) cited and individual who was using a disabled placard that did not belong to him or anyone in the vehicle,case :10 pm 3300 block Mission St Theft Officers Preston and Wilson took custody of an individual that was detained for taking several items from a grocery store without paying. Subject was sentenced in San Mateo County for a similar offense. Subject was booked at Ingleside Station, case Other Incidents: 00:16 am Sunnydale/Santos Ave Shooting into Inhabited Dwelling Officers Saari and Dilag responded to the above area investigate several calls regarding shoots fired. Area was searched for victims and fortunately no one was injured. Officers found a door that was damaged by a single round. Residents were not injured, evidence was collected, case :42 am 100 block Lippard Theft Officer Obot prepared a report and contacted the owner of a vehicle with a broken window. The owner confired that her vehicle was broken into, case :44 am 50 Phelan Battery Officer Boyko (SFCCPD) prepared a report regarding an individual who was struck in the chest by a known subject's backpack, case :37 am 1600 block Guerrero Malicious Mischief Officer Curry prepared a report regarding graffiti. Victim's garage door had been marked with a silver marker, case :10 am 50 Phelan Theft Officer Hakes (SFCCPD) prepared a report regarding a textbook that was left and stolen from the men's restroom, case :15 am Unit block of Tiffany Elder Abuse 15

16 Officer Morrow responded out to a residence to assist an employee from Adult Protective Services who was following up a report of elder abuse. Officer Morrow prepared a report, case :40 am Mission/Persia Robbery (Muni 29L) Officer Muro prepared a report for a person who came into Ingleside Station to report a robbery. Victim stated he was approached by three subject on the bus and that one of the subjects kicked his leg and took his backpack, case :34 pm 50 Phelan Theft Officer Boyko (SFCCPD) prepared a report regarding a stolen laptop from the men's locker room, case :20 pm Chenery/Roanoke Indecent Exposure Officer Curry responded to the above area and met with a victim who stated that an unknown male exposed himself to her while sitting in his vehicle. The subject was a white male, 30-35years, strong build, blond almost shaved head). The vehicle he was sitting in was possibly a 1996 black Nissan, unknown model, CA plate 3RJF146, case :40 pm 50 Phelan Theft Officer Wong (SFCCPD) prepared a report regarding a stolen backpack, case :50 pm Murray/Crescent Ave Malicious Mischief Guitan (PSA) prepared a report for a victim who stated that his vehicle's tires had been slashed, case :29 am 600 block Silver Ave Burglary Officer Contreras and Hermosura prepared a report regarding a residential burglary.
