Take a minute right now and write a text message to express your gratitude to someone. (We ll wait.) Congratulations! Not only did you give a dose of liferenewing DHEA/Oxytocin to the person you wrote, you gave one to yourself you literally just extended your life and created goodness in the world. Well done! Why is this so important? Dr. Stephen R. Covey stated that there are four dimensions that, when properly nourished, create a whole person: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. In Habit 7 of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, we are reminded that we must constantly be in a state of renewal in these four dimensions. The greatest drain on us is when the emotional dimension is out of balance. We can run a marathon (physical), read a book (mental), or miss a goal (spiritual) and recover pretty quickly from the fatigue and loss, but emotional harm is quite different. Place a check mark next to each time you experienced one of these emotions (from The HeartMath Institute s Depletion to Renewal Grid ) in the past week: Anger Frustration Anxiety Impatience Withdrawal Resentment Excitement Courage Passion Contentment Appreciation Dignity According to the HeartMath Institute, these toxic emotions in the left column release specific stress hormones (like cortisol) which lead to reduced muscle mass, impaired mental function, diminished performance, brain cell death, impaired memory, and accelerated aging). Renewing emotions in the righthand column facilitate energetic coordination of your sympathetic and parasympathetic systems which regenerate your system and offset drain. In this month of Thanksgiving, let s be ambassadors of courage, nobility, love, and hope. Let s express our gratitude all month, so that we build resilience in ourselves and connection within our homes, our blocks, our neighborhood, our community, and our city. 2 2 Page 2 Officer Julia Little was born in Kent, Connecticut. In 2009 Julia ventured out to San Francisco in order to attend USF, where she earned her Bachelor s Degree in psychology, with a focus in child psychology. Julia s compassion for life lead her to volunteer at SF Suicide Prevention while she was attending college. Julia has a passion for helping people, especially young children. In April of 2016 Julia entered the San Francisco Police Academy. Julia graduated the academy, completed her field training at Southern Station, and did a year on probation at Northern Station. Julia was assigned to the Ingleside District in June of this year for her permanent assignment. In September of this year Julia s compassion for helping kids came in to play when she was assigned to be a School Resource Officer at Ingleside Station. Julia took to her assignment like a duck in water, and continues to do a great job. Please join us in congratulating Officer Julia Little, for being November s officer of the month!

3 3 Page 3 On October 22nd, 2018, a package thief with an extensive theft-related criminal history decided to visit the 2600-block of Diamond and the unit-block of Natick. Unbeknownst to the suspect, there were high-resolution cameras facing these two doorways and captured the face, clothing, and description of the suspect. Two neighbors, separated by 3 blocks (which is like a lifetime away in most neighborhoods) connected on NextDoor and began to put the pieces together; they realized that the same suspect committed both crimes. They shared this information on NextDoor with their neighbors, and the collaboration began. Minji activated the power of her connected neighborhood's group, described the situation, and asked for the neighborhood to check their cameras. Jeremy, around the corner from Natick, located video footage of a suspicious vehicle seen on the block at the exact time that the crime occurred. He submitted this information to Minji who added it to the NextDoor post. The resolution of the camera was so clear, that we were able to obtain the license plate number. John and Minji, at the urging of other neighbors, made sure that Captain Hart was "in the know," by ing him the details from next-door and links to the camera footage. Captain Hart then ran a computer check, which led the police to the suspect's address in the Bayview/Hunter's Point. Ingleside officers from the Ingleside Property Crimes Unit responded, located the suspect's vehicle depicted in the video, observed Minji's stolen Pokemon Pikachu halloween costume in plain view on the back seat of the car, and arrested the driver (and suspect from the videos). During the search, Minji's additional stolen property was later located in the car. Based upon the foregoing, Captain Hart and his team obtained a search warrant. During a search of the suspect's residence, we located John's stolen property (with the Nordstrom Rack tags still attached) and the clothes that the suspect wore during the commission of these crimes. These members of the Glen Park neighborhood represent the best of what San Francisco has to offer: collaborative, connected, empowered, and resilient neighbors who look out for each other, care deeply about their neighborhood, and then are willing to do what they can to help each other out during times of stress. I want to take a moment and commend Minji, John and Jeremy for being amazing neighbors. You all served your families, your neighbors, your community, and your city very well

4 4 Page 4 Upcoming N.E.R.T events in our Ingleside Bernal South Neighborhood Starting August 14, 2018 N.E.R.T is providing a series of 6 evening classes on Tuesday s. The start time is 06:30pm, and the location will be the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (515 Cortland Avenue). Saturday, September 8, 2018 a neighborhood block party will be held on the 100 block of Park Street. A staging drill may be held Saturday September 22, 2018 at 11:00am. 6 6 Page 6 Incidents: Incident Date Sunday, November 4 th, 2018 Arrests: 1:10am 3100 Blk. Mission Aggravated Assault A fight over money owed resulted in one of the combatants being stabbed with a knife outside a club. Ingleside Officers Lopez-Martinez, Dilag, and several other units arrived on scene and found medics treating the victim for a stab wound to the stomach. The witnesses described the suspect and his clothing and Ingleside officers Ahern and Seavey found his a short distance away hiding in a taxicab. He was arrested at the scene and booked for aggravated assault. Report number: :38am 400 Blk. Rolph Battery A citizen went outside his home to smoke a cigarette and heard a loud bang. He saw a tape measure lying on the ground next to his parked van and an unknown man standing across the street. The van owner confronted the man about the vandalism and argument ensued. The argument escalated to where the accused man punched the homeowner in the face. Ingleside officers Lim, Chang, Cvetovac, and Lamb arrived on scene and cited the aggressor for battery and released him at the scene. 7 7 Page 7 Incidents: Incident Date Saturday, November 3 rd, 2018 Arrests: 1:16am Mansell & Dartmouth D.U.I Ingleside Officers Parker and Seavey were dispatched to a report of a hit and run accident. When they arrived the owner of a parked van said the driver of a truck, truck still on the scene, collided with his parked van. The victim said he went outside with his flashlight and shined it at the other driver who quickly ran away. A computer check revealed the truck belonged to a man living nearby. Parker and Seavey went to the address and found the owner of the vehicle, covered in broken glass and smelling of alcohol, who matched the description given by the victim. The suspect was given a roadside sobriety test which he failed. A judge issued a warrant for a blood alcohol test which was administered at Mission Station. Once completed, the suspect was taken to the County Jail and booked for DUI and hit and run. Report number: :25am San Bruno & Alemany D.U.I Another driver. Another DUI arrest. Ingleside Officers Prieto and Meza were dispatched to investigate a report of an illegally parked truck blocking traffic. When they arrived the officers found the driver playing POKEMON and his woman companion asleep in the passenger seat. There were several empty cans of beer in the bed of the truck. The officers noticed his eyelids were low and his speech was slurred. He admitted drinking a couple of beers hours before. The driver was asked to perform a roadside sobriety test which he failed. He was taken to Mission Station for a blood alcohol test which was administered by a phlebotomist. Before the test the driver told the officers he wasn t driving the vehicle and that he magically appeared on the side of the road because of his magical wizard powers. The officers didn t need any magical powers to transport the suspect to the County Jail for booking. Report number: :00pm 800 Blk. Sunnydale Possession of Firearm Ten Ingleside officers were assigned a search warrant for a home, vehicles, residents and other property in the 900 block of Sunnydale. The officers detained one occupant of the home outside while inside the officers found numerous weapons including rifles, pistols, and ammunition. They also found a quantity of cocaine and heroin hidden in the clothing of the suspect. He was arrested and taken to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: Serious Incidents: 1:27pm 300 Blk. Athens Discharching of a Firearm A report of gunshots prompted dispatch to send Ingleside Officers Foxwoth, Espinoza, and George to investigate. When they arrived they found a vehicle with a bullet hole in the right front driver side wheel well and a punctured right front tire. Witnesses said they heard three gunshots but had no idea who fired the weapons or where they were fired from. Report number:

8 8 Page 8 Incidents: Incident Date Friday, November 2 nd, 2018 Arrests: 2:02am 100 Blk. Hahn Vehicle Theft Ingleside Officers Seavey and Ahern, while on routine patrol, spotted a Honda Civic that was stolen from a Daly City address. The officers stopped behind the Honda and placed the driver in custody. A search of the driver revealed shaved keys which are used to steal vehicles. A computer check also revealed that the driver had a $100,000 warrant for his arrest for a previous vehicle theft. He was placed in custody and driven to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: :56pm 3200 Blk. Folsom Indecent Exposure A woman called police after observing a man exposing himself near the entrance to Saint Anthony s School. Ingleside Officers Hornstein, Noh, Sugitan and Quevedo responded and found the suspect nearby at a laundromat where the suspect also sexually assaulted a patron. A records check revealed the suspect was on probation for a previous theft. He also had numerous arrests for residential burglary, theft, and credit card theft. The suspect possessed several stolen credit cards. He was arrested and taken to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number:

9 9 Page 9 Incidents: Incident Date Friday, November 2 nd, 2018 Serious Incidents: 11:20am 1500 Blk. Noe Street Robbery A woman called police to report a robbery by a ride share employee. The victim told Ingleside Officers Cvetovac and Lamb that the employee dropped her at her home and when she went to the front door, the employee grabbed her purse and phone. The victim was able to hold onto her purse, but the driver got her phone and ran back to her car which sped away. The victim said she contacted the ride share company but they only offered a refund and would not give her the name of their employee. That s when she called police. Report number: :31pm Santos & Velasco Theft A Muni rider had her phone stolen by an unknown suspect who was also a passenger. She told Ingleside Officers Hopkins and Vong that the suspect waited for the bus to stop and then ran up behind her, grabbed the phone from her hand, and exited the bus before escaping in an unknown direction. Report number: :00pm 5500 Blk. Diamond Heights Burglary Ingleside Officers Demkowski and Smith were dispatched to a report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that a bicycle and other bicycle equipment was stolen from her garage. She told the officers the thief most likely entered the garage using a garage door opener left inside her unlocked car parked in front of her home. Report number:

10 10 Page 10 Incidents: Incident Date Thursday, November 1 st, 2018 Arrests: 10:27pm San Bruno & Silver Recovered Auto Two alert and curious Ingleside police officers, Lee and Barajas, spotted a late model VW parked at a closed gas station on the 4100 block of Mission Street. When the officers pulled up to the VW, the driver took off speeding through the neighborhood and onto southbound #280 to southbound #101. The fleeing suspect exited at Paul Avenue and stopped at another gas station where the officers spotted the driver and passengers. The driver, seeing the officers, took off running. Officer Barajas pursued the driver while Officer Lee radioed for backup help. The driver was finally apprehended after being chased for several blocks. The VW was stolen from a rental car company and the suspect was wearing clothes, with security tags, that were stolen from an unknown store. He was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for vehicle theft and resisting arrest. Report number: Serious Incidents: 12:47am Unit Blk. Ellington Shots Fired A citizen called police after an unknown assailant fired several bullets into his home. Ingleside Officers Jensen and Buckner arrived and found three bullet holes in one wall and a window. Witnesses told the officers they observed a man running away from the front of the home shortly after hearing the gunshots. No one was injured in the incident and the case has been assigned to the Station Investigative Team. Report number: :15am Britton & Visitacion Robbery A woman was severely injured during a robbery. The victim told Ingleside Officers Cornejo and Lim that an unknown man approached her at a bus stop, grabbed her purse, and violently threw her down on the sidewalk. The suspect escaped in an unknown direction and the victim went home to call police. The officers called for medical assistance and the victim was transported to San Francisco General for treatment of her injured shoulder. Report number: :35pm 900 Blk. Geneva Robbery A food delivery driver was assaulted and robbed of his cell phone. The victim went to Ingleside Station and told Police Services Aide Bruce that he was walking on the 900 block of Geneva when an unknown suspect walked up behind him and grabbed his cellphone. A struggle ensued and the victim was thrown to the ground and lost control of his cellphone. The suspect then got up and ran to waiting vehicle which sped away. Report number:

11 11 Page 11 Incidents: Incident Date Wednesday, October 31 st, 2018 Arrests: 2:15pm Circular & Monterey Narcotics A speeding motorist led to his arrest for the traffic violation as well as possession of narcotics. It started when Ingleside Officers Chan and Peralta where driving South back to Ingleside Station on Highway #280 when they were passed by a speeding Volkswagen Golf. The officers fell in behind the VW as it sped up to over 80mph before exiting at Monterey Blvd. Chan and Peralta stopped the vehicle and asked the driver to exit. He did and apologized for speeding. He gave the officers permission to search his car and inside they found a quantity of heroin in a pocket on the driver s door. The suspect was cited for the vehicle code violation and possession of narcotics and released at the scene. Report number: Serious Incidents: 6:00am 200 Blk. Day St. Arson Ingleside Officers Prieto and Cephus were dispatched to investigate an arson fire. When they arrived they found a partially melted Porta Potty. Neighbors told the officers they were concerned because of a recent arson fire nearby on the day before. The officers notified the department s arson investigators who were assigned the case. Report number: :35Pm Alemany & Theresa Battery A vehicle collision ended up with one of the drivers being assaulted by the other motorist s brother. Ingleside Officers Sugitan and Peralta were dispatched to a traffic accident involving a Honda and a motorcycle. Shortly after they arrived the brother of the motorcyclist came on scene and punched the Honda driver in the face. Ingleside Officer Sugitan stopped the assault and the suspect fled in an unknown direction. The Honda driver didn t require medical assistance. The motorcycle was towed to impound and the case was assigned to the Station Investigative Team. Report number:

12 12 Page 12 Incidents: Incident Date Tuesday, October 30 th, 2018 Arrests: 2:31am 1000 Blk. Bayshore Possession of Firearm Ingleside Officers Bell and Clayton were on routine patrol when they spotted a Chevy Tahoe with a front license plate that was improperly secured to the vehicle. The officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to stop the driver and warn him that his license plate was in danger of falling off. But, instead of stopping, the driver sped away and the officers chased him for a few blocks before they were able to stop him on the 1000 block of Bayshore Blvd. The driver did not have any identification. Inside the vehicle was a quantity of methamphetamine, a pipe to smoke the narcotic, and a handgun along with loose ammunition. A records check revealed the handgun had been stolen from a Pleasanton address. There was also a possibly stolen laptop. Additionally, a records check revealed he was recently arrested and charged with illegally possessing four firearms. The suspect was transported to Ingleside Station where he was booked on a variety of felony charges. Report number: Serious Incidents: 6:00am 300 Blk. 29 th Street Arson Quick thinking witnesses helped prevent what could have been a catastrophic fire. The witnesses told Ingleside Officers Leong, Cornejo and Kerlegan that they saw an unknown man carry a gas can, with a wick, to the front of an apartment building and light the gas can on fire. The witnesses said the suspect had exited a vehicle with the gas can and ran back to the same vehicle which sped away after the fire was ignited. Nearby residents and neighbors, seeing the flames, ran outside with home fire extinguishers and quickly doused the blaze before it could spread beyond the fire damaged garage doors. San Francisco Fire Department personnel arrived soon thereafter and helped extinguish the blaze and preserve the crime scene for SFPD investigators. Report number: :40pm Unit Blk. Calgary Street Robbery A woman parking in the driveway of her boyfriend s home was suddenly attacked by an unknown assailant. The victim told Ingleside Officers Quinlan and Siracusa that she was exiting her car when an unknown man jumped inside her vehicle, grabbed her shoulders, and pushed her down onto the center console. He told her to be quiet and give him everything. She surrendered her purse and he ran away toward Velasco Street. The loss was cash, driver s license, credit cards, keys, and prescription glasses.
