A few days ago, I was walking through Balboa Park and was mentioning the stuffy humidity on a warm day and I heard someone say earthquake weather. I immediately shuddered at the thought of a major earthquake occurring and the anger at someone who would even mention earthquake (as if he had jinxed us and that the cosmos would now snap into action at this verbal faux pas.) While we may be conditioned to fear the worst, we must all transcend fear into action. 2 2 Page 2 Ofc. Eleonardo Zandanel was born in Pieve di Cadore Italy to an Italian father and a Brazilian mother, so he grew up speaking Italian and Portuguese. He migrated to the United States at age 10 and learned English, Spanish, and French along the way. After graduating from Northeastern University with a double major in International Affairs and Economics he then worked at the United Nations during 2 general assemblies in 2011 and Already an established world traveler, he then went on a motorcycle ride of a lifetime: from Boston to Brazil. There, he found a job at a non-profit. While visiting a friend in San Francisco, he noticed an ad on a Muni bus to join the SFPD and the rest is history. During a recent stop at a block party in Bernal Heights, Ofc. Zandanel jumped into a soccer pickup game with kids and showed off a Ronaldo-esque back-heel kick (see pictures above). Ofc. Zandanel has been with the SFPD for three years and enjoys Ingleside Station for the officers who deeply care about the community and the rich diversity of Ingleside s neighborhoods. He is currently assigned as a foot-beat officer and is doing an apprenticeship with the School Resource Officers (SRO s), where he is learning the dynamics of working with the parents, schools, and children in the Ingleside s 47 schools.

3 3 Page 3 Ernest Jones was born at St Luke s Hospital in the Ingleside District in EJ s home was at Arch and Holloway Street in the neighboring Taraval District. EJ s mother worked as an educator for the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) for 45 years; his father worked for SF MUNI as an Inspector. EJ attended St. Emydius Grammar School and later attended St Ignatius High School. EJ attended Dominican University for his undergraduate studies and received a Masters in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. EJ s professional career in Public Administration began with the SFUSD where he assisted families and students with their needs and education. EJ wanted to further his public service and have more tangible impact on families, so he began working at the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center and with residents of the Alemany housing complex. There, he affected positive community engagement by starting the City Eats Program where 1,000 homeless people are fed nutritious meals every Saturday of each month. EJ continues to serve challenged and underserved communities and has a desire to make a positive impact on people s lives. EJ takes great pride in planning block parties where residents from communities such as Holly Park and Alemany Housing Complex celebrate their neighborhood. When asked about the recent Holly Park Block Party, EJ took pride in the success of the event where residents, neighbors (including Mayor Breed), and neighborhoods came together in a spirit of collaboration, preparation, and connection. EJ is grateful for so many motivated, caring, and dedicated people, community members, community groups, and City government (with special thanks to Nick Chapman at ISCOTT/MTA and Daniel Homsey from NEN) coming together to plan the upcoming November 3rd Alemany Block Party on Ellsworth Street from 11AM-2PM. 4 4 Page 4 Upcoming N.E.R.T events in our Ingleside Bernal South Neighborhood Starting August 14, 2018 N.E.R.T is providing a series of 6 evening classes on Tuesday s. The start time is 06:30pm, and the location will be the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (515 Cortland Avenue). Saturday, September 8, 2018 a neighborhood block party will be held on the 100 block of Park Street. A staging drill may be held Saturday September 22, 2018 at 11:00am. 5 5 Page 5 Incidents: Incident Date Monday, October 8 th, 2018 Arrests: 8:37pm 4700 Blk. Mission Malicious Mischief Vandalism A business owner called police after a suspect walked by her store and broke her front window. The victim followed the suspect and identified him to Ingleside Officers Fyles and Tom. She told the officers that the suspect walked by the front of her building and suddenly kicked the front window in. She signed a citizen s arrest form and the suspect was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for felony vandalism. Report number: :04pm 400 Blk. Flood Prohibited Firearm A call of a group of six men casing vehicles prompted dispatch to send Ingleside Officers Lee and Downs, along with over a dozen officers from other stations and Daly City Police Department s K-9 unit. The officers spotted the suspects near Flood and Foerster Streets and ordered them to stop. But they didn t and instead ran off in different directions. One of the suspects possessed a.40 caliber handgun and was quickly arrested while hiding nearby. He was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center for booking and the other five suspects were released at the scene. Report number: Serious Incidents: 9:10am 500 Blk. Wilde Theft Ingleside Officers Cvetovac and Kikuchi were dispatched to investigate a phone theft. The victim told the officers he was walking down Delta Street when a suspect ran up behind him and took his cellphone from his hand. The suspect then ran away to an older minivan, jumped in, and sped away. Officer Kikuchi found a nearby resident with security cameras who let him download video of the suspect s vehicle. Report number: :35pm 100 Blk. Raymond Aggravated Assault A woman walking westbound on Raymond Street was suddenly shot in the elbow with a BB gun. She told Ingleside Officers Mora and Naser that she hid behind a parked vehicle and called police. She had no idea who shot her but she did tell the officers she heard two teenagers nearby speaking to each other. An ambulance was summoned and the victim was transported to UCSF Hospital for treatment. The officers canvassed the area for surveillance video and found one resident who promised to send the footage to police. Report number:

6 6 Page 6 Incidents: Incident Date Sunday, October 7 th, 2018 Arrests: 11:34am 4700 Blk. Mission Drinking in Public Ingleside Officers Watts and Lopez-Martinez were on routine patrol when they spotted a man drinking alcohol from a paper bag. The officers stopped and admonished him about the behavior. They also ran his name through the system and found he was on probation with a search condition, which led to the discovery of methamphetamine and a paraphernalia used to smoke the narcotic. The suspect was cited and released at the scene. Report number: :05pm 3400 Blk. Mission Malicious Mischief Vandalism A passersby called police after witnessing a suspect throw an object through the window of a closed restaurant. Ingleside Officers Hornstein and Suguitan responded and arrested the suspect nearby. He was transported to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: :22pm 4900 Blk. Mission Possession of Burglary Tools A call of a man tampering with parking meters led to the arrest of a man with a cache of special tools. Ingleside Officers Hardy and Guernsey were dispatched and found the suspect inspecting a parking meter. He was questioned and his backpack searched which revealed over a dozen pieces of metal and paper plugs designed to jam meters and later retrieve coins stuck in the coin slot. The suspect was cited and released at the scene and his tools confiscated. Report number: Serious Incidents: 2:20am 3300 Blk. Mission Aggravated Assault Ingleside Officers Bell and Ahern responded to a call of a man being beaten in front of a club. When they arrived, medical personnel were treating the victim who was found face down on the sidewalk. Witnesses said the victim was arguing with six other club patrons outside on the sidewalk when the dispute turned violent. The six suspects beat and kicked the victim until he lost consciousness then fled. The victim was transported to San Francisco General where he was being treated for traumatic brain injuries. 7 7 Page 7 Incidents: Incident Date Saturday, October 6 th, 2018 Arrests: 12:26am 900 Blk. Cayuga Battery A tenant, on high alert because of previous incidents involving strangers on the premises, found an unknown man in the apartment building s laundry room. He confronted the suspect who at first claimed he had permission to be there but changed his story and tried to escape. He was forcibly restrained by the tenant who held on until Ingleside Officer s Jensen and Duran arrived. The suspect had a criminal history and was on parole with an active search condition. The officers did search his clothing and found a significant amount of methamphetamine along with a bulbous pipe to smoke the substance. He was cited for trespassing and other crimes at the scene and released. Report number: :40pm 4600 Blk. Mission Battery Bank officials called police because a customer was yelling threats and refusing to leave. Ingleside Officers Peralta and Dang arrived and placed the suspect in custody. Further investigation revealed the same suspect was wanted for a similar crime at another bank nearby. That bank officers identified the suspect and signed a citizen s arrest form. He was placed in custody and taken to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: Serious Incidents: 12:30pm 200 Blk. Melrose Dog Bite A dog owner called police to report an attack by another owner s dog. The victim told Ingleside Officer Cortez-Cendejas that he was walking his dog, on leash, at Sunnyside Park when another dog, also on leash, lunged to bite his dog. But, instead of biting his dog, the stranger s animal bit the victim on the thigh. The officers noticed a slight bruise on his leg but without breaking the skin. The victim refused to press charges and was given a follow up form with a case number. A copy of the report was faxed to Animal Care and Control. Report number: :15pm 200 Blk. Maynard Robbery A woman waiting for an UBER ride noticed a newer Honda Pilot pulling up. But it wasn t an UBER. Instead a suspect jumped out of the car and quickly snatched the victim s IPhone from her hand. He then ran back to the Honda which sped away. Ingleside Officers Marshall and Hensel arrived and scoured the surrounding area for surveillance video. The officers downloaded video from a neighbor and attached it to the incident report number. 8 8 Page 8 Incidents: Incident Date Friday, October 5 th, 2018 Arrests: 2:49am Cameo Way & Duncan Auto Burglary An alert citizen called police after spotting a suspect casing vehicles on the street. Ingleside Officers Jensen and Duran quickly responded and found the suspect nearby at Duncan and Diamond Heights Blvd. He had items taken a short time earlier from a parked red Honda Civic. He also had a window punch, which is a tool used to break into vehicles, along with a garage door opener, a key to a Land Rover, a social security card, a hotel key card, two ID cards, and two debit cards belonging to several different people. Report number: Serious Incidents: 10:16pm Mission & Powers Investigative Detention Loud music prompted a homeowner to call dispatch telling the operator that he saw a man near a parked car with the doors open. Ingleside Officers Bell and Ahern arrived and interviewed the suspect who was inebriated and said he didn t know who owned the car he was near. The officers admonished him about the noise and were about to leave when the suspect reached into his pocket and threw change at the patrol car. After a short tussle, the suspect was quickly arrested for being drunk in public. While at the station the suspect had medical issues that needed tending too. The suspect was transported to the hospital to be evaluated and eventually released. Report number:

9 9 Page 9 Incidents: Incident Date Thursday, October 4 th, 2018 Arrests: 8:00am 5600 Blk. Mission Investigation Several Ingleside Officers, along with Taraval units, were dispatched to a motel to assist Oakland Police officers in the arrest of two wanted suspects with extensive criminal histories for attempted homicide and firearms violations. The two suspects were quickly arrested without much drama and transported to Oakland Police headquarters for booking. Report number: :05pm 100 Blk. Holladay Theft A woman put her backpack outside for less than two minutes while she retrieved other items from her home. When she went back outside she saw her backpack missing and an unknown man entering a white vehicle that sped away. Ingleside Officers Watts and Lopez Martinez responded and broadcast a description of the suspect s vehicle. A few hours later the same vehicle was involved in accident at 2 nd and King Street. Lopez Martinez and Watts transported the victim to the scene where she identified the driver as the suspect in the theft. He was transported to Ingleside Station for booking and the stolen backpack, along with contents, was returned to the victim. Report number: Serious Incidents: 12:47pm Unit Blk. Santa Rosa Hot Prowl Burglary Ingleside Officers Klaib and Carew were flagged down by a citizen who said he saw three women leaving a home on the unit block of Santa Rosa carrying electronic items. The suspects then entered a car which sped away. Shortly, thereafter, dispatch notified the officers of a burglary at a home in the unit block of Santa Rosa. The caller said a security camera alerted him of the crime and showed unknown people going in and out of his home in a short amount of time. He rushed home and discovered several electronics missing from the residence. The officers recovered surveillance footage of one of the suspects entering the home. Report number: :30pm Geneva & Cayuga Theft A woman called police to report a theft. The victim told Ingleside Officers Duran and Jensen that she was on her Iphone 10, standing in the aisle of a Muni bus heading east on Geneva, when she felt a bump. Seconds later, she noticed her phone was gone and the suspect was fleeing out the bus. Duran and Jensen requested Muni surveillance video for help with the investigation. Report number:

10 10 Page 10 Incidents: Incident Date Wednesday, October 3 rd, 2018 Arrests: 2:16pm 1500 Blk. Sunnydale Burglary A simple move from one residence to another resulted in one new tenant being arrested for burglary. The arrestee mistakenly believed he had permission from another tenant to remove a ceiling fan and take it with him. But when he couldn t get back into his old apartment, he used a screwdriver and other tools to break into the premises and remove the ceiling fan. Ingleside Officers Archilla, Lustenberger, and Sgt. Martin questioned the tenant and he freely admitted to the burglary. He was taken to Ingleside Station for booking. The irony of the event is that the ceiling fan was in public housing and belonged to the City and not the tenant. Report number: Serious Incidents: 12:30pm 2600 Blk. Bayshore Robbery Three women entered a grocery store and quickly placed cosmetics, health aids, Halloween items, and other merchandise into several large shopping bags. The women then quickly avoided the checkout lines and left the store. Two store employees told Ingleside Officers Mora and Lopez Martinez that they attempted to stop the thieves and ended up being punched several times in the face for their efforts. The victim s declined medical attention. Report number:

11 11 Page 11 Incidents: Incident Date Tuesday, October 2 nd, 2018 Arrests: 11:33pm 5000 Blk. Mission Narcotics Arrest Keen eyed Ingleside Officers Downs, Burke and Lee saw something suspicious in the parking lot of Chevron gas station at Geneva and Mission. The occupants of two SUV s were parked in the gas station, back doors and hatches open, and one suspect was transferring garbage bags full of pot to the other vehicle. Inside the bags were dozens of individual packages available for sale. The officers also confiscated close to $52,000 in cash found on the suspects. Both were taken to Ingleside Station and booked for transportation of marijuana for sale. Report number: Serious Incidents: 7:16am San Bruno & Arleta Theft A 13 year old boy, waiting for the bus at the bus stop, lost his phone to a thief. The victim told Ingleside Officers Chang and Calupad that an unknown man snatched the phone from his grip and escaped towards Bayshore Blvd. The young man was uninjured during the theft and went to school to report the event. Report number: :00am 4400 Blk. Mission Theft A woman went to a salon to have her nails done and put her phone on a counter at the establishment. She left after her appointment and noticed her phone missing. When she went back to the salon the phone was nowhere to be found. The victim told Ingleside officer Guernsey that she suspects another customer took the device. Report number:
