1 TITLE: Crime Update from the DC Police Union, City Wide DC Crime Summary April 1 st 7 th MPD Police Officer Dorian DeSantis was awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery Wednesday, April 1 st, for his heroic acts during the Washington Navy Yard shooting in Officer Desantis was shot in his vest, but he managed to bring others to safety before firing back at the shooter. Demitric Joseph Green, 38, was shot and killed in Congress Heights Monday night. No information is available at this time and police are searching for the suspect. Jamyra Gallmon, 21, was arrested Wednesday and charged with fatally stabbing David Messerschmitt in a Downtown hotel in February. According to reports, authorities believe robbery was the motive in the homicide. Melissa Langley, 20 was arrested yesterday, and was charged with stabbing a Metro station manager. According to reports, Ms. Langley stabbed the victim after he refused to let her access the Metro without paying. Jerome Jackson, 11, was also reported missing by authorities. He was last seen Friday near the Stadium Armory Metro station. Authorities are asking for the public s assistance in locating him. A video was released of a person of interest in an armed robbery in the LeDroit park neighborhood. Authorities are asking for the public s help in identifying and locating the suspect. American University students held a rally against sexual violence yesterday demanding that the school s president call for mandatory sexual assault prevention education. The National Zoo increased security for Easter Monday. The National Zoo traditionally has held a Family Day event on Easter Monday, but it has been marred with violence in recent years. Demitric Joseph Green, 38, and a 16-year-old were killed that were 50 minutes apart Monday. A 16-yearold was fatally shot in the Fort Dupont neighborhood at about 7:40 PM, and the second victim was killed in the Congress Heights neighborhood at about 8:30 PM. The two incidents are not believed to be related and no other information is available at this time. So far this year there have been 25 homicides and 47 instances of sexual abuse reported in the District. There were 7 instances of sexual abuse and 21 armed robberies with a gun reported this past week in DC. Assaults with a gun have increased by 21% compared to this time last year. Washington Post: Police arrest suspect in March shooting death in Brightwood District police arrested a 23-year-old man Tuesday and charged him in last month s fatal shooting in the Brightwood neighborhood of Northwest Washington. NBC Washington: Maryland man dies after shooting in Southeast DC A Maryland man has died after being found with gunshot wounds in Southeast D.C. Monday night. Authorities found 38-year-old Demitric Joseph Greene in the 1300 block of Congress Street SE shortly before 8:30 p.m. after being called about a shooting. Green, a resident of of District Heights, Maryland, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died. The shootings occurred 50 minutes and four miles apart, and are not believed to be related. Washington Post: 20-year-old woman arrested for stabbing Metro station manager A 20-year-old woman was arrested Monday for stabbing a Metro station manager in March, after he refused to let her on the train for free. Metro Transit Police said that Melissa Langley of Southeast D.C. argued with the station manager at Stadium-Armory at about 11:45 a.m. on March 15. Her call was first mistakenly routed to the 911 dispatch center in Prince George s County, Md. Once her correct location was determined, the call was re-routed to 911 dispatch operators in the District. Businesses in DC were victims of scammers using PayPal April 2 nd Washington Post: Woman charged with murder in stabbing of DC lawyer at hotel D.C. police said Wednesday that they have arrested a 21-year-old woman in the killing of an intellectual property lawyer who was found fatally stabbed in February at a downtown hotel. Jamyra Gallmon of Southeast Washington has been charged with first-degree felony murder in the slaying of David Messerschmitt, police said. One person was injured in a fire yesterday morning in Dupont Park Crime Tip of the Week According to MyFoxDC, DC businesses have been the target of scammers using prepaid PayPal MasterCard debit cards. Scammers used the cards that initially appeared to swipe and pay like normal cards. However, in actuality, they threw credit card machines offline and cost business owners thousands of dollars. MPD has issued a warning to all merchants regarding this scam, and keep an eye out for them.
