The decrease is attributed t lwer attendance during pen swim at McMurtrey Aquatic Center ver the Labr Day hliday. Attendance fr the mnth f September was 3,692: last September s attendance was 4,089. Lap swim attendance increased by 14% as cmpared t the same time last year. 100 Mile Club: Dnatins: $5, The 100 mile lap swim club is currently made up f 324 active members. The club has swum a cmbined ttal f 106,788 miles. One year ag the club had swum a ttal f 85,544 miles. Adult Sftball League: The evaluatin games fr the Fall Sftball League started n September 10 th with 174 teams -108 Men s and 66 Ced. This is a 7.4% increase frm last year s 162 teams. The ten week Fall League started n September 24 th. The City hsted the ASA Natinal Men s E Recreatin Slw-Pitch Sftball Turnament n August 31 st, September 1 st and 2 nd at the Mesa Marin Sprts Cmplex. Mayr Harvey Hall and Cuncilmember Ken Weir spke at the Opening Ceremnies and started the turnament ff by thrwing ut the first pitch. Thirty-fur teams cmpeted in this turnament. A USSA Sftball Turnament was als held n September 8 th and 9 th at Mesa Marin Sprts Cmplex with 17 teams participating. Spring (171 teams), Summer (173 teams), and Fall (174 teams) Adult Sftball Leagues had a ttal f 518 teams participating in 2012 and generated $243, League f Dreams Adaptive Basketball League: The Opening Day Celebratin was held n Sunday, September 16 th at the Silver Creek Center. Mayr Harvey Hall was n hand t make this a special day fr everyne. The League started n Sunday, September 23 rd with 127 participants. Games are played at bth Silver Creek Park and Greenacres Cmmunity Centers. Vlunteer Hurs: $3, Other Sprts Highlights: Pee Wee Sprts was held at Jastr Park this mnth with 13 participants. Pee Wee Tennis cntinued this mnth at Jastr Park with fur (4) participants. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cmmunity Center New fitness equipment was purchased this mnth in an nging effrt t maintain and upgrade the weight rm. Amng the newly purchased items were: Flat bench Incline bench Dumbbells punds (ascending weight in five pund increments) Gd Neighbr Festival The Gd Neighbr Festival Cmmittee is meeting weekly t make sure the event is well rganized. The Mayr and Cuncilmember Salas will bth be presenting Hidden Her awards at 12 nn. Currently, there are 35 vendrs participating in the event. Staff encurages and assists participants with the cmpletin f hmewrk assignments. When participants have n hmewrk, they are given a bk t read fr 30 minutes. Daily incentives are given t children wh cmplete ne f the abve tasks. A new pl table has been added t the game rm. The new table is being used extensively by mrning participants and the teenage grup in the afternn. There were 0 rentals fr Silver Creek Cmmunity Center in September. Silver Creek park reservatins are included under the ttal reservatin cunt. Staff added sixteen (16) new drains arund the fields at State Farms Sprts Village t relieve standing water n the utside edges f the sccer fields. Campus Park Suth On September 17 th Kern Sprinkler began grading t seed the sump area. The sump area was seeded and cmpleted n September 26 th. On September 4 th the tree cntractr began raising trees at the park. The jb was cmpleted a week late. Central Park Ribbn cutting celebratin fr the Federal Curthuse was held n September 28 th. The stage was used at Central Park at Mill Creek t hnr the Bakersfield Gld Medal wrestler frm the 2012 Olympic Games, Jake Varner. Mesa Marin Sprts Cmplex ASA Natinal Men s E Turnament was held n September 6 th. With Gary Weaver n leave, field staff have been assisting Ken Trne with inspectin f the west side f Wible Rad, nrth and suth f Rawhide, Phase II. This area was accepted int 1 year maintenance. The date f acceptance was September 14 th. The annual tree cntractr Stay Green has cmpleted trimming at the fllwing lcatins: Park View between White Lane and Carvalh Ct, East and West walls.
