First we really want to thank everyone for all you did in We could write a Huge history book about the memories we have made this year and the previous twenty-five. Steve and Karen Thomas At Chapter A's Christmas Party Tim and Julie announced the 2018 Couple of the Year and Steve and Karen Thomas are Chapter A s couple of the Year for 2018! They are TN-A s twenty-sixth Couple of the Year. Being COY for your Chapter is the best program going. It is a big honor. In our November issue of this newsletter was a list of all the Couples who were Chapter A's COY s for the past 25 years. Tim and Julie have done a great job for Chapter A! Congratulations again to Steve and Karen! 25 th Birthday Celebration Chapter A finishes celebrating its 25 Years as a Chapter this month. (Twenty -five years ago January 9 th to be exact.) We will be having our big 25 th Birthday Celebration the 30 th of January. This will include some lucky chapter winning the Middle/West TN Traveling Plaque (which Anita brought home in November from our visit to TN-H). If you care to bring a birthday gift, please consider bringing a Teddy Bear for our new collection that we will donate to First Responders in our Mid-TN area. Winter Event and OP s Meeting The January 13 th Winter Event is fast approaching. We hope to see everyone there for a good time. There will be games and the 2018 Couple of the year Competition. (We don t know at this time if Julie and Tim will be competeing.) It takes place at the Lane Agri-Park, 315 John Rice Boulevard Murfreesboro TN Also the OP s Meeting will be taking place the same day, starting at 8am until 9:45am. Please let me know if you are going to the OP s meeting. The Winter Event begins at 10:00AM and goes til 6:00pm. Spring Fling 2018 Spring Fling 2018 is on our schedule for April 12-14, 2018 in Pigeon Forge TN. The theme is Sounds of the Sixties. Early bird deadline is February 10, So please get registered ASAP. You can go to the District Web Site for all the information. Wink has registration data in this month's newsletter. Our Saturday night dinner show will be Smokey Mountain Adventures at the Dolly Parton Theater, tickets $45. Must be pre-registered. 3 GWRRA Pony Party May 5 Also, we are having a Huge GWRRA Party on May 5th which will be held at Jennifer O'Neill's Ranch, Hillenglade. Hope & Healing at Hillenglade Equine-Assisted Programs support our Armed Forces, Veterans, First Responders and their Families, and have done so since This GWRRA Event is sponsored by Bob and Wink Rager, Chapter TN-A and Chapter TN-E. The late Bob Rager, who was a Viet Nam Vet and was on the Board of Directors, loved working with this endeaver. Lunch will be provided for us, and yes, we can ride horses and paint donkeys (Wink, please notice I was nice: I said donkeys, not Jack asses!). The hours are 11am - 2pm. We set May 5th because that is our TN-A Fun Day date in the District Date Registry. We want to thank Mrs. Wink for setting up this special event. Page 3 Memories from 25 Years in Chapter A Chapter A supports the Fisher House. Chapter A led group rides the year that Wing Ding was in Nashville. Chapter A rode in a Pantie Run with Chapter Q. Chapter A rides in Veterans Day Parades every year. And many Christmas Parades in the old days. 4 Page 4 Day Trippin with Tim By Tim Ingram GWRRA TN-A Rich blue skies backdrop the stark white puffs of clouds that are scattered across the expanse. The sun is almost hot on our shoulders as we motor out of Mt. Juliet on East Division Street. At Hwy 109 we turn left only to make an almost immediate right at the light onto Hickory Ridge Road. We turn left onto South Hartman Drive. As we travel north from Lebanon we pass the manicured campus of the Cracker Barrel restaurant headquarters. The road ends and we turn left onto Hwy 231. Julie and I are on our way to experience a new city park in Lafayette, TN, about 50 miles from our house. On such a beautiful day I thought it would be nice to visit a waterfall. Winding Stairs Nature Trails and Park was the closest one I found that we had not already visited. We turn right on Hwy 25 to Hartsville and then left on Hwy 10 to Lafayette. Neatly trimmed lawns are accented with red and purple crepe myrtles and pink rose of Sharon. Fields abounding in corn and tobacco line the roadside promising a plentiful harvest in the fall. Buzzards drift lazily on the thermals silhouetted against the pure white clouds. We breathe in the perfume of fresh cut pine. There is a refreshing drop in temperature as we pass through the shade of the trees overhanging the road. It isn t long before we see the sign for Winding Stairs on the left, but because it looks like a single lane gravel driveway, I go past it. Making a U-turn at the Hearthstone Inn we try it again. The road is gravel, but fortunately we are on the trike so it isn t too bad. It seems to be about a mile before the road ends at the picnic shelter. Winding Stairs Nature Trails and Park is a new

5 Page 5 development for the city of Lafayette and is still under construction. They have built a new bath house, but it isn t open yet. A nice concrete walkway takes us to an overlook, but with the trees in full leaf, we can t see the waterfall. We hike down a steep dirt trail to where the falls are more visible. It seems like the water has cut through the layers of rock in the deep ravine forming a staircase that the stream splashes down. We don t go all the way to the water as the trail is steep and slippery. They have made some improvements to the trails by way of hand rails and steps made out of cross ties. It appears they have great plans for more enhancements to come. We are not the only ones here enjoying the beauty of nature as we encounter several other people also hiking the trails. The light breeze cools us as we sit on the bench sipping water and looking down the ravine. We listen to the falling water and immerse ourselves in the serenity of nature that surrounds us. Too soon it is time to go. We walk back to the bike and prepare for our ride home. Tim Ingram

9 Page 9 January 2017 Hi All I am in the process of booking a trip to the Tropicana Casino in Evansville, Indiana for January 27, 2018, that is a Saturday. We will leave the old K-Mart parking lot in Murfreesboro at 10:00 am and arrive in Evansville approximately 1:00 pm. We will leave there for the return trip at 7:00 pm and arrive back in Murfreesboro approximately 10:00 pm. The casino will give each person $5.00 to play and a voucher for $9.95 good at any restaurant in the casino. It's also good toward the buffet which cost $12.95 per person, however the buffet closes at 2:30 pm on Saturdays. We have to have at least 30 people in order to book the trip, the price for 31 to 49 people is $5.00 per person, 50 or more the ride is free. Now here's the kicker, if we book the trip and a lot of people drop out after we book and the number that shows up is under 30 we will be charged $25.00 per person for every person under the 30 total and I can't afford that. I don't foresee that happening but I want to make everyone aware of all the requirements to book the trip. That way I will have an idea of how many to count on before I sign the contract. In the past we have always filled the bus to capacity and that's 54 people, I don't see why this year should be any different. I realize things come up and some may have to cancel, but if we have over 50 signed up I don't think up to 20 would cancel, so don't be hesitant to get on board because you fear that you might have to cancel, most of the time we have standbys just in case we have an open seat. In addition to all that I have to furnish the casino with a detailed passenger manifest containing the first and last name, address and date of birth of each passenger. If you would when you respond please include that information. If you went on the trip in 2017 I still have your information if your address hasn't changed. This is supposed to help keep minors from getting into the casino concealed within a group. This is going out to all mid-tn chapters, Chapter Directors please send this to your members right away so they can respond quickly, this will be on a first come first served basis, I will list the participants in the order in which they respond.
