Well, we are into September already and I ve turned another year on this planet. I thank the good Lord for that.

On the 3 rd Monday of the Month 6:00 to eat, 7:00 to meet The weather on our Wing Ding trip to Dallas and back could not have been better. We just had a bit of sprinkles one of the days after Kevin had been cleaning his bike. I made him stop and sure enough that was the all we had the rest of the trip! It s like wearing your rain suit before a call for rain. Well, we are into September already and I ve turned another year on this planet. I thank the good Lord for that. It also will be the end of summer and the beginning of the cool riding season. I love this time to ride with cool temps and fall colors. It s just a good time to get out and explore. The Chapter has rides, dinners and a three day trip down to Mountain Home Arkansas coming up. So break out your cool riding gear and join in the fun. Oh, and while you re out and about and meet up with other bikers, invite them to one of our rides or gatherings. We need to share the fun and grow our Chapter. It s time to ride. So let s ride! Webmaster Needed We are so fortunate to have Dave Miller continuing to maintain our website from his new home in New Mexico. But, we are looking to have a local member take over those duties. If you are familiar with web sites or have a desire to learn please let us know. It does not take much time and it is a valuable communication tool for the Chapter.

Saturday, August 12, 2017 Memorial Bench dedication for Tara Wooden On a beautiful Saturday in August, twenty three chapter members on 12 bikes came out to ride and to honor the memory of our friend

We were able to see the unveiling of a bench in her memory that will grace the porch of the dining hall for years to come.

3 Saturday, August 12, 2017 Memorial Bench dedication for Tara Wooden On a beautiful Saturday in August, twenty three chapter members on 12 bikes came out to ride and to honor the memory of our friend and fellow member at the Girl Scout Camp in Troy. We are so glad we could be there to support Keith and to hear how Tara impacted the Girl Scouts through her volunteer work. We were able to see the unveiling of a bench in her memory that will grace the porch of the dining hall for years to come. Thanks to those who were able to be with us and those who were with us in spirit. Saturday, August 19, 2017 District Appreciation Picnic Another great day for a ride to Jeff City. I love that ride on Hwy 94. We stopped midway for a break and we even had our picture taken by a bicyclist on his way to St. Charles. Our bikes are admired by many! We had 11 folks attend the picnic and enjoy the company and good food. And let me tell you, Chapter O was pretty lucky! We had TWO 50/50 winners and one Branson Registration winner! Jean must be rubbing off on us! It was a bit warm on the way back but still an awesome day. Thanks to the District Staff for your commitment to GWRRA! Great job! Sunday, August 20, 2017 St. Louis Ride For Kids We had gorgeous weather for the Ride For Kids this year. Thanks to Chapter W2, Z and O for providing the funds for the sandwiches we enjoyed after the ride. Almost 40,000 dollars was raised by the participants.

Monday, August 21, 2017 The Great American Solar Eclipse Party Well, the Solar Eclipse is over and we only have about 488 years to wait for the next one over Missouri!

However, the 25 Chapter members who did get to see the Eclipse with Chapter O will always remember when, where and with whom they experienced 33 seconds of darkness at

Seriously, I do hope you all were able to see the eclipse even if not with Chapter O. However, the 25 Chapter members who did get to see the Eclipse with Chapter O will always remember when, where and with whom they experienced 33 seconds of darkness at 1:15 pm. Thanks for sharing in my excitement Chapter O! KK Wing Ding 2017 Six of us headed to Wing Ding in Grapevine, Texas this year. Lyle and Susan enjoyed the event from start to finish and Kevin and Penny and Gene and Karen took the long road down and arrived to enjoy a one day pass. The ride to Wing Ding was fantastic. The weather was perfect and we were entertained by Kevin s antics along the way. We had a somewhat eventful time in Texas as a panic gas shortage made for a few nervous people but in the end the gas arrived and we were able to make our way home with no issues and no rain. Our thoughts were on the Hurricane Harvey victims that week and we continue to hope our Texas neighbors recover fully. Next year we are heading to Knoxville. Plan now for a great ride in beautiful Tennessee. And if you don t believe me take it from a man in the know: The grass is greener, the sky is bluer and the air is purer in Tennessee!

5 Saturday, September 2, Day Ride Saturday, September 2. Weather was spot on for a back road ride up the Illinois side to Hardin and lunch at River Dock Restaurant. Along for the ride was; Brian H, James S, Harry C and from Chapter W2 Bob Phelps and Don Beaird. We took the usual highway 94 to Alton then up the Great River Road to Grafton. This is where we got off the main road and took the roads much, much, less traveled up to highway 16 then over to Hardin. Once at River Dock we were treated to a surprise birthday party (no one in our group but it was fun) and some great food as usual. We had the usual U-turn on the ride up and ride back thanks to Brian not having his co-pilot Christi on board. Saturday, September 9, 2017 Chapter O Picnic We could not have asked for a better day for our annual picnic this year. We were at the Lake Shelter in Cuivre River State Park and from all comments everyone loved this new location. We were able to enjoy a great meal thanks to all the yummy sides, salads and desserts everyone brought along with the fried chicken. The lawn chair circle under the shelter kept expanding and we enjoyed the company of 31 chapter members. We also saw a couple good games of corn hole. We love Chapter O!

Join us at Harry and Nancy s for Chili and hot dogs and S mores. Let s see who can roast the best marshmallow. Watch your for details.

7 A highsider or highside is a type of motorcycle accident characterized by sudden and violent rotation of the bike around its long axis. This generally happens when the rear wheel loses traction, skids, and then suddenly regains traction, creating a large torque which flips the rider head first off the side of the motorcycle or over the handlebars. The initial traction loss may be caused by: locking the rear wheel through excessive braking incorrect downshifting technique, producing excessive engine braking (even if the motorcycle has a slipper clutch). applying too much throttle when exiting a corner oversteering the bike into the turn by shifting weight to the front wheel and using balance to drift the rear wheel sideways exceeding the lateral grip through too much speed (although, this is more likely to result in a lowsider), or too much lean an unexpected change in the surface friction (water, oil, dust, gravel, etc.) reducing the friction on the rear tire by scraping the bodywork of the motorcycle on the road surface Highsides differ from lowsides as follows: during a lowside the rear wheel slips laterally and continuously until the bike falls onto its side (the side that's inside the corner), while during a highside the rear wheel slips laterally only briefly before suddenly regaining traction and flipping the bike onto its other side (the side that's outside the corner, and therefore the higher side of the motorbike). [1] As a result, highsides happen very quickly with little, if any, warning and are very violent. If the wheels are not aligned in the direction of travel when traction is suddenly restored and the rear tire stops slipping, then a highside is likely, depending on how much the bike is turned across the direction of travel and how fast the bike is traveling when the rear tire stops slipping. If the angle is high enough, the bike is moving fast enough, and the rear tire slips and regains traction suddenly enough, the rider has no chance of preventing a highside. Friday October 20: Leave St Louis at 8:30am from the Mobil station at Crusher Drive and Highway K. Take back roads and some highway down to Cuba MO. Then take Highway 19 all the way to Arkansas (the roller ride) Then over to Mountain Home Arkansas. Lunch in Salem MO and ice cream in Thayer MO Total ride down is roughly 270 miles and around 7-1/2 hours with stops for gas and lunch. Saturday, October 21: We will ride Push Mountain road to Jo Jos Catfish Restaurant for lunch then over to Ozark Mountain Festival. Ride over to Calico Corners then back to Mountain Home. Sunday, October 22: Leave the hotel for the ride back or you can go back on your own. There is no official ride route back to St Charles. If you are planning on going, you should get your reservation in quickly as the hotels in Mountain Home are filling up. It is high leaf season in the Ozarks.
