2 Southern California Chapter American Truck Historical Society 2017 Officers and Board Members President Dennis Martinez Vice President / Web Master Chris Caballero Secretary Mark Christensen Treasurer Diane Christensen Event Coordinator Ken Lund Editor Dan Gosnell Board Members Wayne Christian Larry Laughlin Matt Tait Board Members at Large Steve Sackett and Sally Haase Southern Cal ATHS Website Visit us at: And on facebook.com PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dennis Martinez Hi Members, I hope you are all enjoying the summer weather. At times it is a little too warm and all I do is want to sit where there is air conditioning. Even though I need to be out working on projects. We had a great trip out to Lexington to the national show. We stopped and saw Elvis at Graceland in Memphis, and then went on to Nashville where the town was rocking with bars and music. We also made it to the Grand Ole Opry, which was a neat experience. There were almost 900 trucks and trailers in attendance at the show in Lexington. As usual we did get some rain, which I think affected the attendance. But there were plenty of trucks to admire, so we had a good time. Mark and Diane Christensen, Larry Laughlin, and Chris and Bruce Caballero were there from our chapter, as well as several members from the San Diego chapter. Our next outing is the yearly BBQ picnic which will be held at Thurman Flats on Highway 38 on the road to Forest Falls. We had a good turnout last year, with good food. Hopefully you'll put this on your calendar. Please see Ken's event calendar for date and time. Happy trucking, The Old Iron Express Newsletter is published every two months by the Southern California Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society, a non profit organization. P.O. Box 109, Calimesa, CA Dennis

The show is in conjunction with their Fall Engine and Tractor Show, one of their major events. Enjoy the day looking at trucks and all of the great exhibits and displays, and maybe join in their afternoon parade of tractors, trucks, etc. --Admission: $20.00/vehicle --Contact Adam Rossman Location: Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum 2040 Santa Fe Ave, Vista, IDEAS FOR FUTURE EVENTS Does anyone have any ideas of somewhere to go and something to see with our old trucks? In past years we took the old iron out on road trips, including a Ridge Route Run, Lake Mathews to Temecula, tour of Dalton Trucking, etc. The route should be friendly to older or slower vehicles. Maybe finish at a unique or special restaurant instead of BBQ? SoCal is a big place and there must be somewhere we can go within a reasonable distance from a central location. Call Ken or one of the board members with your ideas of something new or maybe a suggestion of a repeat of an old favorite.
