The club is going to visit Harry Truman Library on Saturday August 23 rd. We will tour the library and have lunch on the square in downtown Independence. Complete details included in this issue of the Data Plate. In September, our driving tour will be to Topeka, KS. Bill & Jerrie Carney generously helped put this event together. The tour will be from September 12 th through the 14 th, and will be a fun weekend with events scheduled for Friday, Saturday, & Sunday. We are extending an invitation to the members of the Great Plains Packards and Hawkeye Packards to join us. Please feel free to invite friends to join us as there will be something for everyone. Complete details in this issue of the Data Plate. Our program for the July meeting included a DVD I put together with photos taken last October at the Armacost Museum fundraiser we held with the Baha Buggy Team from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, a visit I made to the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, & the Classic Car Club spring in St. Louise, Missouri. The St. Louis tour included visits to collections of Fred Guyton, Don & Joan Hoelscher, Mark Hyman, and Thomas & Kristy Quick. We had great refreshments, thanks to the Maceks and Roots. Everyone enjoyed the program and had a great time. Hope to see as many as possible at Truman Library on Saturday August 23 rd. Please make plans to join your friends In Topeka for our driving tour in September. 2

October 8-11 AACA Meet, Hershey, PA October 12 The 29 th Annual Packard Truck Organization Meet, York Springs, PA December 5 Regular Membership Meeting Refreshments: Sneed/Thomas December Annual Holiday Banquet The Buck Stops HERE, on Saturday, Aug. 23 Packard Day Trip to the Harry S Truman Presidential Library 500 W US Highway 24, Independence, MO Truman.library@nara.gov We will meet at the library in the front hall at 10:30 AM for the tour. We will need 15 or more people to attend to get the group rate $5.75, so please call the Norman s cell phone ( ) to indicate if you are planning to attend (note they will be out of town till Aug 22 attending a funeral). The tour will last for 1 1/2 hours, ending at 12:30. If you are driving your Packard (another time to dust it off) you can park in the circle drive in front of library - please Tom & Marsha know. Tom & Marsha will be collecting admission fees from each attendee and handling our entry as a group. After our tour, we will be heading for the Independence, MO square to eat at the German restaurant Rhineland for lunch. You will pick from the menu and pay yourself. Maps will be made available at the library for the location of the restaurant. 3

6 Mid America Packards September Driving Tour to Topeka, KS Friday September 12-Sunday September 14, 2014 Friday Arrive: Club House Inn & Suites, Topeka, Ks. I-70 & Wanamaker Rd. 924 SW Henderson, Topeka, Ks A block of rooms is being held, so please request your reservation under Mid America Packard Club at a rate of $ We will have a hospitality room available for use by the club from 12 noon Friday until 11 am Sunday. The hotel offers a free hot breakfast buffet and a free manager s reception in the evening Friday & Saturday. We will have snacks, sandwiches, and salad for Friday night dinner in the hospitality suite. We are asking for a donation of $10.00 per couple for food and refreshments in hospitality room. Friday event: Tour Kansas State Capitol on your own or with friends. The Capitol finished a 325 million dollar renovation in October 2013 and it is gorgeous. Free tours are available at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, & 3 pm; call Saturday Events: Leave hotel at 9:30 am for the Todd Williams restoration facility and a tour of his collection of Model A Fords, race cars, & peddle cars. From Todd s we will travel to lunch in Dover, KS at the Sommerset Hall Café. You can order off the menu or have the buffet. Be sure to leave room for desert, they are known for their homemade pies and they are fantastic! Just ask Tom, Marsha, Bill, or Jerrie - we all enjoyed. After lunch, we will have a nice drive through the Flint Hills of Kansas back to the Combat Air Museum. Exhibits include: Missiles, Military Vehicles, Flight Simulators (you can participate), Aircraft engines (including Packard built), models, & art. The cost per person is $6.00 for the museum. Possible additional stop to be announced Saturday morning. Return to hotel for rest and visit the hospitality room. Dinner at 6 pm will be in a private room at Annie s Place located at 4014 Southwest Gage Center Drive, just a short drive from Hotel and once again, a great place for food and homemade pie. Sunday: Check out of hotel, visit with friends and you can tour the Kansas Historical Museum located about a half mile from the hotel. Museum opens at 1 pm on Sunday. Tours available, call or tour on your own. Kansas Historical Museum, W 6 th Ave. Directions for all events will be available in hospitality room and before we leave hotel Saturday morning. 6
