There will be readings from his newest books including "Songs From The Southern Oregon Coast", featuring short stories and poems talking about life, history and culture along the southern Oregon coast, written by 57 of our areas extraordinary poets and writers. Also featured will be "The Cedars of Lebanon", a time/travel, science fiction novella set in ancient Arabia, circa 600 B.C.. Come along as three women, trapped back in time while trying to save a future Earth after a devastating war in the Mideast, struggle to survive, praying to be rescued after they become captured, and enslaved, by King Nebuchadnezzar and his armies. Gary will also read from his latest poetry book "Imagery", poems to make you laugh, cry, wonder, doubt and argue about. After the readings Gary will take questions concerning the publishing process, and his books will go on sale after the question and answer period. DOCENT NEEDED! Experience the charm of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse while greeting visitors as a docent. The Cape Blanco Heritage Society has an opening for a cashier in the Lighthouse gift shop and for a docent in the Lighthouse tower. The gift shop position is for one or two days a week depending on your schedule and the tower position is for Mondays. Both openings are from 10:00 to 3:30 through October. OSU MASTER FOOD PRESERVERS DEHYDRATING WORKSHOP CHANGE OF DATE JUNE 2, Dehydrating will be the topic of the next Coos County Master Food Preservers workshop set for Saturday, June 2. The class was originally scheduled for May 12 th but needed to be rescheduled. This class will cover the basics of dehydrating fruits and vegetables,
2 as well as smoking foods for eating as well as canning and the safety difference between the two. Jerky making and summer sausage making will be covered. Inspiring tips and tricks such as the everpopular dinner in a jar will round out the workshop. It will also cover proper storage of dehydrated foods, and how to use them. This workshop fills quickly, so reserve your spot now by calling , ext The class will be held at the OSU Extension Service in Myrtle Point from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10. MINIATURE GOLF COURSE REVITALIZATION The Port Orford Parks Commission is seeking qualified contractors to revitalize the Miniature Golf Course at Buffington Memorial Park in Port Orford. This project will consist of removing old carpet and perimeter boards - replace with new carpet and perimeter boards and repair concrete. This project must be completed by June 30, Contractor must have a CCB# and carry insurance. Must be able to comply with local government grant project requirements. Alan notes the occasion as possibly being Paul Leutwyler s birthday, and was taken at the old Battle Rock Garage. (Now Quilter s Corner) Left to right: Randy Foster, Paul Leutwyler, and Bill Foster. HELEN JANE CRAMER Helen Jane Cramer, widow of Frank Skip Cramer, passed away last week at age 82. Jane was Claims manager at Red Shield and Northwest Insurance in Portland. She and Frank retired to Port Orford, and later moved to Springfield. She leaves behind 2 sons, 5 daughters, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 1 great grandson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on May 12 at Springfield Lutheran church in Springfield, Oregon.
