INTERESTING LANGLOIS Interesting Langlois Presents local poet author Lily Mars October 25th at 6pm located at the Langlois Public Library. Lily Mars is the author of the book Heart Stuck Open, her first book of poetry. Lily Mars has been blessed to live in the small glorious community of Langlois for the past 15 years. She has spent much of that time using her words to explore the extraordinary in our ordinary lives. Lily would be honored to share her first book of poetry with you to listen to your thoughts. Cake will be served at this free author talk. For more information call the Langlois Public Library at A wine walk is one of the highlights of Alive After Five. To participate in the wine walk, commemorative glasses walking maps will be on sale for $10 at both Bon Brewing Company Old Town Marketplace when the event starts at 5 PM ALIVE AFTER FIVE Come to Old Town for our first ever pumpkin pavilion near Bon Brewing paint a pumpkin to put on display! This month s Alive After Five features a scavenger hunt as well. Alive After Five returns to Bon Friday, October 27th in Old Town Bon. Alive After Five runs from 5 to 7 PM features art, music, food, refreshments, other activities. Many Old Town shops will be offering bargains as well. The Greater Bon Association is once again organizing the Alive After Five activities. Proceeds will benefit upcoming local public events in Bon such as the Christmas Kickoff, Gorse Blossom Festival, Volunteer of the Month program as well as support GBA s

Please contact PHS for Details appointments COOS COUNTY LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING AND DINNER The Coos County Livestock Association s annual meeting will be Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Coos County OSU Extension office in Myrtle Point. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the business meeting promptly at 5:30 p.m. A catered Tri-tip & Chicken dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Serkan Ates, a new professor with OSU s Department of Animal Rangel Science will be our keynote speaker. Cost of the dinner is $25 per person. It s really a great meeting, no matter how large or small your operation, if you are a livestock producer in the area, you are welcome to attend! SO YOU WANT TO BECOME AN CURRY COUNTY MASTER GARDENER? Registration is now available online at CurryMasterGardener2018 for the Master Gardener Volunteer Training Class, sponsored by the Extension Service of Oregon State University. The 10-week class will be held every Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the OSU Extension building at the Fairgrounds/Event Center on the Beach starting January 12 th ending March 16 th. The class is limited to 18 students applications must be received in the Extension Office in Gold Beach no later than December 1 st, Volunteers will receive extensive training in all areas of horticulturerelated topics at the end of the training session they will be equipped to volunteer in horticultural education support to the public. The classes are Art Glass Jewelry, Fabulous Cards, Spirit Rattles, Pewter Ornaments, Garden Art Gifts for ALL AGES taught by OSU faculty, Extension agents Master Gardeners. Tuition for the entire course is $175.00, with $60 of that to be refunded upon completion of 50 hours of public outreach educational support. We believe that there is a need for more outdoor youth activities in our community in order to provide for the growth development of our future generations the vitality of our community.

3 FIELD OF DREAMS Youth baseball is returning to Port Orford after a lengthy absence. An enthusiastic group of baseball softball fans has formed the unofficial Field of Dreams committee are leading the effort to restore the ballfield at Buffington Park. We believe that there is a need for more outdoor youth activities in our community in order to provide for the growth development of our future generations the vitality of our community. Work began the afternoon of October 4th as Mike Allison lead the charge with his tractor to begin skinning the infield. Others who provided shovel rake manpower were Wes Herdon, Tim King, Wayne Markel, Harry Riead, Ross Smith, Bill Klinkefus. The next step is to till the infield to a depth of 6 inches. We are looking for a volunteer with a small tractor to do the tilling. If none is available we will rent a walk-behind tiller. The next step will be to shape the infield. We have access to dirt also the equipment to do the shaping. We ask that anyone who has knowledge experience who would like to join our efforts to contact Ross Smith at or rosssmith582@gmail.com. Parents who are interested in signing their little leaguers up for play are also asked to contact Ross to get on our mailing list. Our plan is to launch organized teams in the Spring of '18 beginning with T-ball adding more age groups as we gather interest support.
