1 Volume 7 Number 0315 Wednesday Serving Oregon s Northern Wild Rivers Coast Local News ONLINE Clockwise from the left: Nathan Malamud as Pumbaa, Olivia Schmidt as Sarafina, David Wyatt as Scar, Jack Sorenson as a Zebra. DISNEY S THE LION KING JR The Sprague Theater in Bandon, presented Disney s The Lion King JR, a New Artists Productions presentation this past weekend, and will present three more shows this coming weekend don t miss it! The play features several talented young actors/singers/artists from our local communities: Nathan Malamud: Pumbaa Olivia Schmidt: Sarafina, David Wyatt: Scar, (brother and uncle to the Lion Kings), Jack Sorenson: appeared with the zebras and vultures. Along with their fellow castmates, 30 in all, they learned to sing African lyrics, along with learning techniques to walk/act/sing with large (and amazing) headpieces. The production was fabulous, and received a standing ovation for the job well done. David s performance as Scar, was outstanding, and Nathan was certainly a funny as Pumbaa, both played integral parts of the story. Interested? There are three more showings coming up this weekend: Friday, April 20th at 7 PM, Saturday April 21st at 7 PM and Sunday matinee April 22nd at 2 PM. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 GUEST PHOTOGRAPHER: REBECCA MALAMUD

NEWS FROM SWOP By Avery Horton Southwestern Oregon Preppers (SWOP) will be holding a meeting at Noon on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Ross Hall, located at 570 3rd Avenue, Powers, OR The main topic is "DISASTER SURVIVAL PLANNING WORKSHOPS FOR FAMILIES". This year SWOP will be conducting workshops during the meetings. Bring your plan to the workshop. If you do not have a plan to bring that is OK, you will have one to take home when you leave. Bring paper and pencil. Attend this workshop to help your family, whether large or small, survive a disaster. SWOP meetings always start with a question and answer period before the main topic so all in attendance get a chance to participate. This is a free public meeting to get to know fellow local preppers in southwestern Oregon counties and to exchange information and ideas. It is important for individuals to understand that they will be on their own in the event of a disaster and not to depend on receiving outside help. Join Southwestern Oregon Preppers on Facebook and/or meetup.com. WEAVING PROJECT By Linda Nelson Weaving project to be held 22 April from 1:00pm to 3:00pm! Also on the menu will be "Imagery", a collection of poems written by Gary designed to make people laugh, cry, wonder, doubt and argue about. Gary will also answer questions concerning the publishing process. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife inspection stations in Ashland and Ontario are now open year-round. Stations open today in Brookings, Klamath Falls, and Umatilla while stations in Lakeview and Burns open in May. SCBEC REP at LANGLOIS LIBRARY A representative from South Coast Business Employment Corporation SCBEC)/WORKSOURCE Oregon will be available the third Tuesday of every month at the Langlois Library. Job Seekers and business representatives are encouraged to stop by to discuss available services. Classroom training and On-the-Job Training programs are available for eligible individuals. SCBEC currently provides Certified Nurses Assistance training at the Coos Bay Corporate Headquarters. Appointments may be made by calling Mo Aakre at TO THE EDITOR Last week we had a medical episode and called 911, it turned out to be not an emergency but thanks to Gail, Tim, and Ken they were there within 10 minutes to check vital signs and give professional reassurance. Though highly trained professionals, they are volunteers and deserve a lot more pats on the back than they probably get. Bravo A team, we do not take your life saving care for granted. To find out more about EMT training call Gail Wilcox at Sea Breeze Florist in Port Orford. Elaine Roemen Port Orford TO THE EDITOR I had the opportunity to go last night to the Sprague Community Theater in Bandon and saw the Production of the Disney s The Lion King Jr. The show captures the audience, the cast was great, the choreography and the costumes were very well executed. The talent of the 30 members of the cast that played the Disney story with such a great enthusiasm, and the music and colors were very well adapted. Please Don t Miss it! We all should recognize all our youth for their efforts and persistence that takes to bring to us such an enjoyable play! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL! Heddy Radkey Bandon LETTERS
4 TO THE EDITOR The Langlois Lions Club is more than pleased to announce that our recent Spaghetti Feed and Dessert auction was a huge success- going beyond all expectations. As a result, we can fund our Pacific High School senior scholarship to a $1000 award again this year. Of course, we could never have done this without the much-appreciated assistance from community members and businesses.: Bandon Floral and Gifts for the lovely table flower arrangements, Ray's Food Place, Port Orford, Langlois Market and Bandon's McKay s and Ray's Food Place all generously contributed ground beef toward the cause. The community bakers of Langlois truly came through. The auction of the many World Famous Langlois desserts was lively and full of humor. The outstanding Alder Road Band greatly enhanced the festivities. Again, our community truly made this event a memorable happening.
