1 Volume 5 Number 0227 Wednesday Serving Oregon s Northern Wild Rivers Coast Local News Online BLESSING OF THE FLEET The annual Blessing of the Fleet drew a large crowd this year. Updates were made to the Fishermen s Memorial to reflect the loss of this past season, which was substantial to our community. Here s to a safe Fishing Season! Safe travels at Sea! FIRE ON 101 Sirens went off at 11:30 on August 3rd. Headed north, I pulled off for the trucks to make a safe turn onto the highway wondering why the heck no one else could hear or see the truck as at least 6 cars blew by my count of them in my photo. the trucks siren or see the engine. Not sure what started the fire, but the winds where whipping it towards Port Orford. Thanks to all the firefighters that were able to take off from work and put this fire out! They are terrific volunteers. BACK TO SCHOOL PORT ORFORD, OR School starts Tuesday, August 30th, SPORTS: First full day for fall sports practices will be Monday, August 15th. 3 Bandon Rural Fire Department, HWY 101, Bandon, Oregon The main topic is "Essential oils". Lynda Sessions, CLS, CBIC, will lecture on what essential oils are, how they work (101), and their benefits as part of first aid and emergency preparedness kits. Lynda is a Licensed Medical Technologist and Infection Control Consultant and holds a BS degree in Chemistry/ Microbiology. SWOP meetings always start with a question and answer period before the main topic so all in attendance get a chance to participate. This is a free public meeting to get to know fellow local preppers in southwestern Oregon counties and to exchange information and ideas. It is important for individuals to understand that they will be on their own in the event of a disaster and not to depend on receiving outside help. Join Southwestern Oregon Preppers on Facebook and/or meetup.com. ALIVE AFTER FIVE By Harv Schubothe Alive After Five returns to Bandon Friday, August 19 th.
