Day Trippers: Heritage Bus Trips Pendleton s Washougal Mill and Oregon Historical Society Thursday, February 13, 2014 Join us for a work trip to Pendleton s Washougal Mill to tour the facility and their store. We will lunch in Camas and then head over to the Oregon Historical Society to view their Pendleton exhibition. Costs are $35 for Members and $40 for Non-Members. Pre-register by Friday, February 7. The van leaves the WHC parking lot at 8:30 am, returning around 4:00 pm. Jesse H. Settlemier House and Aurora Colony Museum Saturday, March 15, 2014 In March we visit the historic Jesse H. Settlemier House, an 1892 Victorian/Craftsman home in Woodburn, located on nearly 3 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. After a stop for lunch, we tour the Aurora Colony Museum. 5 Willamette Heritage Center Special Exhibitions Teen Interpreter Program The Teen Interpreter Program challenges high school students to explore Oregon s history through drama. In this summer volunteer program, students plan, research and present living history programs and demonstrations to museum visitors. Applications available May 1 on our website or through our office. Students ages 14 to 18 years old are invited to apply. Space is limited. The cost is $100 for the summer. Scholarships are available. 7 Willamette Heritage Center Annual Heritage Awards and Banquet Fundraiser Saturday, June 21, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm Featured Speaker: Jane Kirkpatrick Reviewers and readers alike acclaim Jane s work as unique in a world of storytellers. To make a nomination for one or more of the awards, please submit a letter that includes the award category, your proposed nomination, and a description of why the person, persons or organization should be honored. The categories are: David Duniway Historian Award: Named for David Duniway, first State Archivist of Oregon, it recognizes distinguished and long-term contributions by an individual or organization to the public, understanding, and appreciation of the cultural history of the community and the Willamette Valley through teaching, writing, research, or historical preservation. Heritage Education Award: The award recognizes programs, projects, and other endeavors which have provided high quality, history-focused educational opportunities to area residents for any age group or a range of age groups. Heritage Enterprise Award: The award recognizes a business enterprise which has made a significant long-term contribution to the economy and quality of life of the community. Heritage Center Service Award: The award recognizes meritorious efforts by an individual, group or organization in support of the WHC s mission and vision. Distinguished Board Service Award: The award recognizes the service of Board members and longtime committee members. George Strozut Award for Preservation: The award, named in honor of long-time Salem teacher, preservationist, and President of the Marion County Historical Society, recognizes an individual, group, or organization who have advocated for historic preservation.
