AREA 6 FRIENDSHIP CAMPOUT IS IN THE BOOKS!! As I write this I am still tired from all the fun we had at the Friendship. We all came in on Thursday and got set up in time for the ice cream. We followed that with a pulled pork dinner then finished that day off with Samgo. Friday most of the group went to Hasting Museum. Everyone said it was something they had never seen before and seemed to enjoy it. Friday was a day on their own. Some went downtown to a Greek Festival, some just went out to eat. The day was finished up with Sandbag Baseball. Saturday we had a Pancake Breakfast cooked by Thundering Sams followed by a lot of meetings and learning to make body lotion; there were also a lot of games. Then the caterer and entertainment arrived. Crossroads Catering had great fish, chicken, all the sides, plus tea and lemonade which everyone enjoyed. We topped the night off with live entertainment by Glen & Leigh Ann Pool. The manager of the park had tickets for Jazz Festival but instead decided to stay and listen to our group! Sunday with storms coming in we had a devotion and left for home. Ronnie said the wind caught his awning, and he was so glad Doug was still there to help him. We gave out a lot of door prizes, had a live auction with two chairs that made the auction. Even Razorback things didn t bring as much as the two chairs. In the long run I think everyone had a great time. There will be a change of place and date for We have a lot of family things going on next year. So, if anyone hears of a place that they would like to visit for next year, let us know. It has to be a big park to handle at least 50 rigs. We will be checking out one this week. It will be posted in the Newsletter when we find a place. So, to close, I would like to thank everyone who came out to brave the weather and help Tom and Girtie celebrate their 25 th James and Ruth Ann were also celebrating their anniversary. Thanks to all the helpers that helped set up and take down. If it was not for everyone, we would not have a Friendship. I can t say Thank You enough. Thank you, Girtie VanHoveln Area 6 ASD

2 FROM THE DIRECTORS Hello to all, Need more "Rain"!! Don't know about you, but we almost got a flood like Maybe after this downpour, it will stop. Thanks to all who helped make Area 6 Friendship a success. Girtie and Tom worked very hard and did an excellent job. Sorry we didn't get to be there for more than one half day due to us having to move. Got that behind us now. WHEW!!! Did not think we would be able to attend Area 1 Friendship because of our Park Hosting obligations. Thanks to Ruth Ann and James Hairston for filling in for us, we get to go!!!! Paulette and Arnie have a great one; we always enjoy that event as well. Actually, this turned out to be awesome because we can leave our motorhome at Cedar Oaks, Grove, Ok, drive car back to Hot Springs til June 9, then back to Grove for our very own "Whispering Pines Chapter Campout!!! Kinda looking forward to getting back home about mid-june; I d like to get my new home "straight" again. Hope all have a great summer and will keep all in our prayers. Bill and Dee Nery Love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength... Mark 12:30 ROCK CITY SAMS Rock City Sams Chapter was proud to have 7 rigs for the 2015 Samboree in Texarkana, AR. Samantha s Snack Shack served beans and cornbread Wednesday evening, which was a big hit. Of course, the hot dogs on Friday, with or without chili, were all gone, too. Next year we re hoping for an even larger attendance for what will be the first Good Sams RV Rally. Samboree may be old news, but Area 6 Friendship isn t. RCS managed 8 rigs, and would surely have had more, barring illness both human and vehicular. We had lots of fun with BINGO!, hand and foot, sandbag baseball, prize winning, visiting, and good eating. A big thank you to Gertie and Tom VanHoveln for a job well done. We are pleased to welcome Paul and Mary Jane Fisher to Rock City Sams. Of course, they are new to RCS, but not to Good Sams, being members of Toad Suck Chapter also. We re looking ahead to our June campout at Crater of Diamonds State Park. We hear that Derrick City Chapter campout will overlap with RCS in June at Crater of Diamonds. Seems Good Sams have filled up the State Park and some of our rigs are overflowing to nearby Miners Camp RV Park just outside the State Park. Some of us will be digging in the dirt, and maybe finding some sparkle in the dirt. If not, we ll definitely be finding some fun and friendship. SPA CITY SAMS May s chapter campout/business meeting was held at Maumelle Park in Little Rock, AR the 11 th 15 th. A potluck preceded the meeting. Both were held at the Tinkle s rig. There was so much to eat and such a variety. There were a total of 9 members present. Several members were absent for health reasons. We extend best wishes and prayers to them for a speedy recovery. Hopefully everyone will be better for our next campout at Old Post in Russellville, and will be able to attend. A total of 6 rigs were present for the campout. Sunday afternoon/evening those of us arriving, did so in the hard rain. Monday evening we had a hot dog cookout at the camper of Bill & Trish Rough. Plenty to eat for everyone. It rained most of the day on Monday. On Tuesday, part of the group went out geocaching while the rest of us went out shopping around. On Tuesday evening we all went out to eat at a new Mexican Restaurant in West Little Rock, Chuys. Wednesday we had our potluck and our business meeting since part of the group were leaving the next morning for the Friendship. Some played cards, others just hibernated. Thursday, part of the group left, and the rest of the group was on their own for the day. Friday, everyone left for home. Page 2 Arkansam News 2015

3 JOLLY ROGERS Paulette s Palette Another late issue you say! My apologies and I do have an excuse, actually several of them. But we won t go into them all. The Area 1 Friendship in Grove, OK was a success despite the issues we ran into: Flooding, rain which increased the flooding, and a few last minute changes. By the time the water receded, the building we usually have access to for all our indoor activities had had water in it that was over the countertops. Never was the water an immediate threat to any of our RV s. The park staff bent over backwards to help us have a good time in spite of! We were put in a smaller, but extremely well stocked meeting room with a kitchen. Additional tables and chairs were set up on the room s patio, and I actually believe some liked the inside/outside arrangement as well as our customary accommodations. We were able to have our crafts, meals, and even our Chinese auction with minimal changing of our agenda. We were true Good Sammers taking these changes in stride; and, as always, being courteous and gracious to our hosts who tried so hard and succeeded in making our campout a memorable one. Even our Saturday evening s entertainment were excellent sports. We made an announcement Saturday evening regarding our position as Area 1 ASD s. We are going to take a half step down and support Don and Joann Cowell of the Bella Vista Traveling Sams as co-asd s. We re looking forward to this change and aren t really expecting it to have much effect on the 2016 Friendship. After all, four heads have to be better than two! That date has been set for Sep 22-25, 2016, at Cedar Oaks RV in Grove, OK. I want to again remind everyone that you will always be able to reach me by phone: Paulette or Arnie I ll be checking with the Post Office in Britt, IA; and, hopefully, rent a post office box for mail delivery while were here. Therefore, for the June issues of the newsletter please send your snail mail to General Delivery, Britt, IA or send me an with your article as the body of the (redhead.smith2002@gmail.com). There will be info in next month s issue about a mailing address for the July issue. Deadline each month is the 25th. If you run into any problems or anything you re not sure of, just let me know. I ll be glad to help in any way I can. Paulette May 14 th -16 th The Jolly Rogers camped at Horseshoe Bend ACOE Park on Beaver Lake, Rogers, AR for our Adopt a Park spring cleanup. Eleven rigs were in attendance. Unfortunately the first two days were cold & rainy but the last day was at least sunny. The Andersh s tried out their brand new 5 th wheel camper, and Fran is happy to report the furnace works just fine. The domino games were moved indoors to those rigs big enough to accommodate more than two, and the brave enjoyed bonfires by Norm (Tackett) each night. It was predicted the MEN would win in dominoes this year; and, so far, this remains true. We ventured out the second night to the world-famous Monte Ne Chicken for a delicious meal. There s no menu, just fried chicken and family style sides. Thursday we performed our park clean up, then had our chapter meeting accompanied by the park mowers zooming around the pavilion. After the meeting we had our chapter potluck of different kinds of soup (perfect for a cool afternoon). We also celebrated Mari Bieker s birthday. Phillip & Courtney Butts Page 3 Arkansam News 2015

5 BELLA VISTA TRAVELING SAMS The Bella Vista Traveling Sams held their monthly meeting April 14, at Crater of the Diamonds State Park. Members camped at the park for a few days before going to Texarkana, AR for the Arkansas Good Sams Samboree. Six member rigs and 1 guest rig attended the campout. Four member rigs traveled on to the Samboree. The Bella Vista Traveling Sams helped serve breakfast on Saturday morning. Bella Vista received first place for their scrapbook and found out it will be sent to regional for judging. The next meeting will be the Friendship campout held May in Grove, OK SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEWS AND STARS!! 6 WHISPERING PINES TRAVELERS Whispering Pines Travelers meeting was called to order and held at North Little Rock River RV Park, North Little Rock. Tom led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Everyone was having a good time. We had 10 rigs present, and no guests. Minutes were read and accepted as read; the Treasurer s report was read and accepted also. We had six anniversaries and one birthday. There was no old business. New Business: A motion by Ed for us to send $75 dollars to the Alzheimer s Association in memory of Ken Foutch passed. It was discussed that we start sending flowers or giving gifts according to family wishes and only to Chapter members on the current roster. This will be voted on at our next meeting. Bill Temple has volunteered to update our roster with pictures so when we get new people into the chapter they can put a face to a name. So take a good front picture of you and then one of your spouse and to Bill Temple with your names. His is Nelson_temple@yahoo.com. Please get this to him as soon as you can. Wagon Master Report: June we will be going to Cedar Oaks RV Park, Grove, OK. Contact Ed Jette at if you would like to join us. Some of us will meet at Main St Diner on Tuesday the 9 th for breakfast at 8 am before we leave out. Our next campout will be July at Mt View RV Park, Mt View. 7 THUNDERING SAMS The Friendship held at North Little Rock Riverfront RV was a great success. The Thundering Sams had eight (8) rigs attending. Area 6 ASD Girtie VanHoveln (Tom) put on a great Friendship Campout. They had 43 rigs. Catering was done by Crossroads out of Cabot, AR. Entertainment was Glen & Leigh Ann Pool of Cabot; that was great, they made the comment that they would sing and play till everyone was gone.. When they had finished, they had requests, and MORE request.. They played a couple hours beyond their agreement. Everyone wants them back for Girtie said that depends upon where the Friendship will be. She has several places to check out, and sends thanks to everyone. Dear T-Sammers, Well, we're all home now from Friendship and I can certainly report that we had a really great time. Even with the rain, the facilities were fine, the fellowship was great, and oh my the food: BBQ one night (and Slaw furnished by Girtie & Tom), Benihanna's one afternoon, Catering by Crossroads out of Cabot, Catfish & Chicken one night, and trips to The Hasting Museum, the River Market area, Bean Bag Baseball, lots of Mexican train, Skipbo, and a few hands of Hand and Foot, along with an afternoon meeting complete with Root Beer Floats and the annual auction, which turned out exceptionally well and which cost 2 or 3 Thundering Sams, some big bucks. AND that all adds up to a really good time. My (Doc) thanks to all who participated (we were once again thanked by the Area 6 Director- Girtie for the high level of participation). The Sat evening entertainment was excellent. For those who missed the trip-you were sorely missed! See you guys in June for the Nashville Trip-contact Don Alexander for details if you need them!!!! I received a card from Girtie VanHoveln expressing her Thanks to The Thundering Sams as a group, and for cooking breakfast and all the help the chapter did to make the Area 6 Friendship a Big Success. Safe Travels until we meet again.. Sharon Gibbons gave the Treasurer s report and collected lots of birthday money which was good. There were lots of volunteer hours turned in also. Randy Gibbons reported the next campout will be on June at Crater of Diamonds. Camp Host will be Kenneth & Marilyn Dixon. We discussed about working at our adopted Park, Moro Bay. Water is still too high and everything still wet, so no date has been set for a work day. Marilyn Hartsfield is working on getting an attendance list for everyone. Don Woodard gave Marilyn a form to be filled out and turned back in by May 31, 2015 for nominations for State Directors for Our chapter nominated Bill & Dee Nery by a motion made by F.H. Taweel and a 2nd by Bill Hartsfield. Motion carried and was approved. The chapter campout at Old Hwy 25 for August was cancelled because of lack of interest. It was voted to go to Mt. Tuesday coffee, snacks and fellowship was followed at noon with grilled hot dogs, and all the fixin s. Supper was at the Redwater Diner which had very good food. They are mouth-watering and yummy! Here again with all the fixin s from the ladies. Thursday afternoon we played Bingo from 2 to 3. There were lots of good prizes like homemade mayhaw jelly & sweet corn relish, other good prizes, too. That night we all loaded up and went to the Dixie Diner. 10 103 N Peabody Ave, Mountain View, AR (870) The perfect location for tired feet! An airy and bright restaurant right on the Square serving excellent food, good pricing, outdoor seating and a friendly staff who provide good service. DENTON FERRY RV PARK, 44 RV sites (27 pull-throughs) designed for the largest RV. Free wireless internet, bathhouse, and laundry. Located on the White River, 2.5 mile walking trail, golf packages available. Pets accepted. Address: 740 Denton Ferry Road, Cotter, AR Phone or Website: bill@dentonrv.com NORTH EAST ARKANSAS TRAVELERS (N.E.A.T.) The North East Arkansas Travelers stayed true to their name at their May campout. We were scheduled to be at Jacksonport State Park; and, as usual, several arrived early Monday morning (or even earlier) to begin the fellowship, food and fun as soon as possible. However, they no sooner got set up, when the park staff came by to tell them that the river was rising and they needed to abandon their spots. Luckily, Lake Charles State Park had room for the 8 member and 1 guest rigs so everyone present contacted the few who hadn t made it in yet to inform them of the change, packed up and traveled to Lake Charles. Once everyone was settled again the fellowship began! As usual the food was plentiful with chili one night, fish the next and a trip to Dairy King for lunch one day. The women played cards and visited while some of the guys fished. During the meeting, Ty Presson was informed that he s had his last time at the front of the meal line. We voted him in as a new member. Our next campout will be June 8-12 at the Mt. View RV Park in Mt. View, AR. Phone: We will have spaghetti Tuesday night; please bring bread, salad or dessert to go with it. And Wednesday night, Mary Gerg will be providing a brisket, so please bring whatever sides you would like. One last thing, my apologies to Bob Lomax for getting his name wrong in the last newsletter. May you always find smooth roads and level sites. Jo Ann Page 10 Arkansam News 2015
