1 Newsletter Volume 4 July 2012 Aspen Acres The July rally was held at Aspen Acers near Rye Colorado. What a wonderful change in temperature, when you are coming from over 100 degree days to the cool mountain temperature is a real treat. Our hosts Ted and Rita Witzel; Grady and Shirley Monk and Jim and Jan Grabe welcomed the Bounders and Buddies to the rally. We were pleased to have 21 attend the rally, Koa nephew of Jim and Jan was able to come with them, he is already 10 years old and we all remember him when he was four years old, and would attend our rallies with Jim and Jan for years. Thursday evening everyone brought their favorite beverage and heavy hors d oeuvres, to the building for a fun evening. We enjoyed the music of Steve Gilbert then we played our favorite card games Pass the trash and Oh heck. Friday morning we again gathered with a wonderful Pot Luck Breakfast, in the afternoon because the building was going to be used Friday evening we played Wheel of Fortune with Jim and Jan. (It was rumored that the wheel was fixed because one team kept getting bankrupt and the other team got the 10,000) Finishing it in time for the hosts to fire up the grills, where we were to bring our own meat to cook with the hosts providing the side dishes and our desserts. The campground has a jam session every Friday evening so when finished with our meal the Rocky Roos stayed to enjoy the group s music. Saturday we had a wonderful breakfast prepared for us by our hosts followed by the business meeting. 2 RockyRoos Minutes Rocky Roos Rally Minutes at Aspen Acres, Rye, Colorado July 26-29, 2012 Vice President, Art Gibbens, called the meeting to order and welcomed the members and buddies. Hosts for the Rally were Rita and Ted Witzel, and co hosts Grady and Shirley Monk, and Jim and Jan Grabe. Rocky Roos attending were Shannon and Richard Crouse, Lyle and Pat Crouse, Danny and Darla Day, Art and Carol Gibbens, Steve and Vernette Gilbert, and Rita and Ted Witzel, and Bounder Buddies, Carol Green and Hal Jaeke. It was MSA to accept the Minutes of the June, 2012 Rally as published in the last Newsletter. Treasurer, Ted Witzel presented the Financial Report. Joan Stevens was reimbursed for the expenditures for the Newsletter during the past two years. The treasurer also reimburses the Rally hosts for their rally expenditures. The Club will not be charged any bank fees in the future. MSA to accept the Treasurer s report as presented. An audit committee, including Lyle, Ted, Grady, and Steve will meet following this meeting to review the Treasurer s book for the last two years. A report will be presented to the membership at the August Rally. Old Business - Rallies: Thanks to the Witzels, Monks and Grabes for hosting this rally. The weather was cool and delightful, the food was marvelous, the activities great fun and the fellowship outstanding as always. Thanks to the Grabes for organizing the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy games. Lots of great responses for both games. The rally fee from the Treasurer covered all the rally fees. The Days and Burdas are co-hosts for the Woodland Park/Lions Camp rally on August Everyone who attended this dry camping resort the last two years really enjoyed it. Lots of fun activities are planned. To reserve your space, please call the Days There are rooms available in the lodge for those who do not want to drive their RV. Rooms rent for $50/ night plus tax for the first night, $40 plus tax for each additional night. The cabins do not have their own showers and toilets, but the facilities are available in the lodge.. Please fill your rigs with water before coming. A dump station is available at the Diamond Campground a few miles before the Lions facility. Electricity is available for oxygen if needed. Firewood is available at the camp site if the fire band has been lifted. The Steinbrink s are planning to attend the BU Rally in Odell, Oregon, September 19-22, If there are any other RR s planning to attend, please let Earl know. Darla Day and Vernette Gilbert are assembling a gift basket, which the Steinbrink s will take to the BU Rally in Odell, Oregon in September. There will be an FMCA rally in Gillette, Wyo. on Sept Fifth wheels, trailers, Bounders and other RV vehicles are welcome to attend. There are lots of activities planned. For further information look on the FMCA web page. Several Rocky Roos are planning on attending. The possibility for a September rally was presented as a no host gathering on September at the Mountaindale site, 16 miles south of Colorado Spring on Rt More information will be available the August rally. If interested, please let Earl know. Other Old Business: Another discussion was held about the possibility of having Friends of Bounders or Buddies as Page 2 cont. on pg 3

3 July Rally cont. or just enjoy the cool weather and stay at the campground. Phillip and Bea Boyd who had traded their E for a 2008 Diesel Bounder with 4 slides, were having electrical problems and were not able to bring the rig, but they did drive up to spend the afternoon and dinner with the group at a restaurant. When we returned to the campground it was time for us to get our brain juices working for the game of Jeopardy with Jim and Jan. The other group won this evening so they are not too sure if the other game was rigged or not! A big thanks to Jim and Jan for all the work they did on getting all the questions ready for us. Sunday morning the breakfast was furnished by Pikes Peak Traveland followed by devotions brought by Art Gibbens with music with Steve Gilbert and Carol Green. Minutes cont. members of the Rocky Roos. Many BU clubs have already included Friends in their membership. The club By-Laws and standing rules will need to be revisited to see if changes need to be made. A committee was formed, with Danny as chair, and Steve as committee member. The committee report will be presented to the members at the August rally. Currently, the hosts of a Rocky Roos rally can declare their rally RR s only, or Bounders and Buddies, as long as it is published in the Newsletter. Art read a note of information from Earl, regarding BU rule #3. Briefly, 1. Not more than 49% of the membership can be Friends. 2. Friends cannot be officers. 3. Friends cannot vote on BU matters. 4. Any guest of a BU rally is covered by BU insurance. The question was raised about who is going to publish the Newsletter. Although the Stevens have sold their Bounder, they can continue to be retired members, and continue to publish the Newsletter. Joan has been the publisher for many years, and the members present today hope that she will continue to do so. Pikes Peak Traveland has been a continuing supporter of the Rocky Roos. Our Sunday morning breakfast of donuts and sweet rolls has been paid for by that Company for many years. The cost usually depends on the number of participants at the rally. The rally fee could be used to cover the extra cost for the Sunday morning breakfast when there are many attendees. Ted will talk with Randy when the July bill is presented. Care Concerns: Calls to our members who are dealing with medical problems are appreciated if they are kept short. Cards are always welcome. Judy Williams has a new home in an 55 and older facility. Continued prayers for Dan Williams and wife Karen. He will not be having surgery. Currently, Doug Gilbert, Steve and Vernette s son, is doing very well with his recovery after the Stem Cell transplant in May. LizVance called Vernette and passed on greetings from them. Prayers for Joan and Orv Stevens. Prayers for Jan and Jim Grabe as they pray for guidance as they begin their 3 year mission work with Global Hope Network. We are going to have Lots and Lots of activities so get ready for a full fun packed weekend! You will not want to miss this weekend. If you no longer have an RV, there are motel type rooms available for rent, each room having a private bathroom, twin beds, cost for room is $50 the first night and $40 for each additional nights. To reserve a room, call , then be sure you let the hosts know you are coming. Dry camping for your rig is $3.00 a day per a person Directions: Highway 24 out of Colorado Springs to Woodland Park, in Woodland Park at the Y of Highway 24 and Highway 67 turn right on Highway 67 go 4.1 miles. After mile post 80 and before mile post 81 you will see a sign on the right side for Red Rock Group Camp on the left is the sign for Colorado Lions Camp. Turn LEFT CAUTION It is a narrow cattle crossing with the road turning IMMEDIATELY to the right. Go 1.3 miles to the Lions Camp. Stay to the right all the way. When you arrive, wait for someone to help you park your rig or car.
