We all came in on Thursday and got set up in time for the ice cream. We followed that with a pulled pork dinner then finished that day off with Samgo. Friday most of the group went to Hasting Museum. Everyone said it was something they had never seen before and seemed to enjoy it. Friday was a day on their own. Some went downtown to a Greek Festival, some just went out to eat. The day was finished up with Sandbag Baseball. Saturday we had a Pancake Breakfast cooked by Thundering Sams followed by a lot of meetings and learning to make body lotion; there were also a lot of games. Then the caterer and entertainment arrived. Crossroads Catering had great fish, chicken, all the sides, plus tea and lemonade which everyone enjoyed. We topped the night off with live entertainment by Glen & Leigh Ann Pool. The manager of the park had tickets for Jazz Festival but instead decided to stay and listen to our group! Sunday with storms coming in we had a devotion and left for home. Ronnie said the wind caught his awning, and he was so glad Doug was still there to help him. We gave out a lot of door prizes, had a live auction with two chairs that made the auction. Even Razorback things didn t bring as much as the two chairs. In the long run I think everyone had a great time. There will be a change of place and date for We have a lot of family things going on next year. So, if anyone hears of a place that they would like to visit for next year, let us know. It has to be a big park to handle at least 50 rigs. We will be checking out one this week. It will be posted in the Newsletter when we find a place. So, to close, I would like to thank everyone who came out to brave the weather and help Tom and Girtie celebrate their 25 th James and Ruth Ann were also celebrating their anniversary. Thanks to all the helpers that helped set up and take down. If it was not for everyone, we would not have a Friendship. I can t say Thank You enough. Thank you, Girtie VanHoveln Area 6 ASD

2 FROM THE DIREC- TORS Well, I do believe Summer is here!!! If we can think back how cold it was a few weeks ago, it might make it a little easier! Now it s time to enjoy the lakes and shaded campgrounds. We are ready to enjoy the rest of the year, got most all moved into our new place. We know we have missed some good campouts with our chapters already; but, hopefully, we can make up for it later on this year. Please be extremely careful with this heat while camping as it can be very dangerous. The reports we have been getting from chapters are great, it seems as if they are growing!!! This is what we need...working together and planning interesting events for both Chapter and State level. Have just received notification about the Good Sam/Camping World 50 th Anniversary in Will get info out to all of you about this as we get it. There have been several staff changes and numerous address & phone number changes. Please take note of these on the inside back page of this newsletter. Ours has changed, too: Bill and Dee Nery 125 Beacon Hill Road Hot Springs AR Bill's Phone # Dee's Phone # Don't forget the Area Friendships!!! We need to support each other...until next time...god Bless... SUGAR LOAF SAMS The Sugar Loaf Sams met at Bentley's for breakfast/meeting on May 27th, Bob Carr opened the meeting with prayer followed by Pledge of Allegiance by Don Gibson. Roll Call was called by Secretary Pat Smith with 20 members and 2 guests (Bill & Robin Jones of Fairfield Bay). Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Pat Smith and were approved as read. The Treasurer's Report was given by Paul Beaton and was also approved as read. We took a break to eat our breakfast and Bob Carr presented us with our devotion. The Sunshine Committee sent cards to Junior Watters during a bout with pneumonia. A memorial service on July 18 at the Presbyterian Church in Heber Springs to celebrate the life of Bill Hood who passed June 13 was put on the calendar. Paul Smith s is still undiagnosed with his health problems; the chapter was saddened, also, to hear of the passing of their daughter-in-law Connie. She and their son Bill had been married for 15 years. The next meeting will be at the Rustic Inn on June 24th at 9 am. Our next campout will be at Denton Ferry in Cotter, AR on July The last campout was held at Wooley Hollow in Greenbrier on June 2-5th. We had 8 rigs present. The Wallace's hosted that campout. A brown bag game night will be May 28th at the Lake & River Inn in Heber Springs. Pat Smith WHISPERING PINES TRAVELERS When we left Jacksonville on Tuesday June 9 we had 5 rigs going with Ed Jette in the lead making sure all got there. Then Bill Wortham had to pass Jim due to Jim running too slow. When we finally got there 3 other rigs were waiting for us and 2 more came in. We got set up but a/c was in short supply so we moved over to the shade. Then we all got ready to go eat. We went to Drakes which was ok. All had a big meal, then went back to the rigs and down to the room to sit and talk since we had not seen Bob and Sandy Aries for a while. All went shopping except Jim and Ed who stayed home to set up what we would be doing. When we got back he had a great weekend planned. We all went to breakfast at the Casino for a deal that was to cost us $2.89; but some ended up paying more. Then we got back to the rigs getting ready to cook hamburgers that night with two different pasta salads, deviled eggs (Mary Thompson almost lost the end of her finger making the eggs), and lot of desserts. Mary had to go get her finger glued but ended up fine. Friday everyone but Tyson and VanHoveln went to the museum. Heard that Ruby got a ride while there. We ll have to ask her. Friday night we went to eat at the Americana. Had some good food for it being a small place. Went back and played some cards and dominoes afterwards. We also had a music show each night. Saturday we ate at La Casita Mexican food. It was another small place with good food. Bill and Dee For we are God's Masterpiece, he created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do things he planned for us long ago.. Mark 12:30 To end this newsletter we all did what we do best: Play cards and find some of the best places to eat. Submitted by: Girtie VanHoveln Page 2 Arkansam News 2015

3 BELLE POINT SAMS Paulette s Palette Summer is here in Iowa but it s definitely cooler than further south. The Fairgrounds Campground where Arnie and I park host for the summer is beautiful as always. The flowers we keep watered all summer are coming along beautifully. Miracle Gro is a miracle. Each month when I work on the newsletter, it s good to hear about the Good Sams helping each other, camping together, and visiting. We noticed this in Area 1 and were surprised that Arnie and I have been the ASD s for this wonderful group of campers since 2008! Each year there s more camaraderie, including each other in games and meals instead of sticking in the same old groups, and helping each other with RV problems. Each of us is skilled in some way and sharing is the Good Sam way. The chapters are also growing which I see from new members being added to each chapter. This is all what Good Sam Club is about and it s exciting to go to a meeting or campout and meet so many wonderful people who are now part of each other s extended family. I want to again remind everyone that you will always be able to reach me by phone: Paulette or Arnie The Postmaster in Britt is going to take care of our mail through General Delivery so for the July issues of the newsletter again send your snail mail to General Delivery, Britt, IA or send me an with your article as the body of the (redhead.smith2002@gmail.com). Deadline each month is the 25th. If you run into any problems or anything you re not sure of, just let me know. I ll be glad to help in any way I can. Paulette In June Belle Point Sam Chapter members met at the I-40 Rest Area near Sallisaw, OK to caravan to Natural Falls State Park, West Siloam Springs, OK for the May Campout. The May meeting was convened while members were at the Park. Thursday morning everyone packed up. John Martin was our Wagon Master and those who travelled north to the Area 1 Friendship in Grove, OK had just got into Grove when the skies opened up and dumped on us. We sat in our rigs until it calmed down, and we could set up. Due to all the rain the Grand Lake was over its banks and had flooded the building we usually use; the park scrambled and fixed up a smaller, but definitely adequate, room for our use. The campout schedule had to be amended minimally, but the Friendship went on. It seemed everyone had a good time. The music entertainment on Saturday night was the same as last year. We enjoyed seeing their improvement, and they received a standing ovation at the end of the evening. On to June! Belle Point Sam Chapter members met at the KOA Campground in Sallisaw, OK for the June Campout. Once everyone was set-up we gathered around Gayle s rig until it was time to gather our items and head for the group meeting room for our meeting followed by a delicious pot-luck supper with sides and deserts. We got the room cleaned up and then gathered around Gayle s rig again until bedtime. Wednesday morning Gayle s rig was the center point, while some members did some minor RV projects and John Johnson started installing a new CB antenna on the Bogner s motorhome. At lunch time 9 members traveled to Emily s Tea Room in Gore, OK for lunch and to look at the antiques for sale. When we made it back to the camp ground, everyone went to their own rigs for naps and whatever. Wednesday evening we gathered in the group room again to have a potluck of leftovers. Afterwards, on-going projects were worked on and games/cards were played. Thursday morning we gathered in the group room for a pot-luck breakfast that had just about anything you could imagine for the meal. We had more than enough and shared with the Campground owners. Thursday included a shopping trip to the Fabric Patch in Gore, OK and lunch at Burger King. Late Thursday afternoon we gathered at Gayle s rig for peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream to go on top, yum! We even invited the Campground owners for this tasty treat. Then we all sat around swapping more stories until bedtime. Friday morning everyone packed up, and Arnie & Oleta Bogner and Johnny & Ki Johnson headed for the Black Hills. Everyone else headed home until the next campout. Safe Travels Secretary, Ann Martin Phillip & Courtney Butts Page 3 Arkansam News 2015

4 ROCK CITY SAMS Rock City Sams Chapter held its June campout at Crater of Diamonds State Park outside Murfreesboro, AR June RCS was delighted to be the life of the party in the campground, gathering at the camp site of Felix and Carole Hall, where coffee was ready by 6:00am every morning for those who chose to rise so early. Afternoons and evenings we chased the shade with our lawn chairs. Fortunately, the Hall s site offered good shade, which was supplemented with an easy-up and large screen house, which served as chow shack for a great pot roast potluck on Friday evening. Thursday evening we challenged the wait staff at Em s Café, who kindly kept dragging up tables til we could seat 23 people. Saturday night was Los Agaves Mexican Restaurant s turn to pack us in, where we had swelled to 26 people. Most attendees opted to sit out the diamond dirt digging, but a few of us donned our shade hats, grabbed our digging tools, and played in the dirt one morning until the shade was gone. None of the dirt we dug was pay dirt, but we shoveled some fun just the same. We had three visiting rigs for the June camp out, and all three rigs requested to join the chapter at our Saturday morning meeting. We welcomed to our group Charlie and Diane Amato, Ronnie and Marilyn Andrews, and Bob and Peggy Bundy. G.W. Sanders daughter, Denise, was visiting from New Mexico, and came along to the campout, too. She may have even soaked up a few good RV traveling stories to take home, some of which might be true! DERRICK CITY SAMS Derrick City Sams held its chapter meeting at Crater of Diamonds, Murfreesboro, AR. Vice President Vivian Langheld called the meeting to order at 9:42 am and opened with prayer by Randy Gibbons. Vivian welcomed our guests Laverne Bowden and Mike & Sue Ainsworth. Roll call by Vona Smith tallied 10 rigs present. We had one brave person Robbie Williams who waived the heat and rain to go dig for diamonds. He got caught in a downpour so he poured out his bucket of dirt. Don't you think it could have had diamonds in it? The Treasurer s Report given by Vona Smith was approved as read. Carol Kee asked about paying dues when you pay birthday money. The reply from Vivian was it didn't matter as long as the dues are paid by September. Mike and Sue Ainsworth were voted in as new members with a unanimous vote. Vona Smith presented them with a folder of all the rules and events for the Chapter. Mike & Sue thanked the chapter for accepting them as members. Jack Godwin asked about not having an August campout unless it's held in an A/C building. Bennie Langheld said the August Campout would be in an A/C building. Kenneth and Marilyn Dixon were thanked for camp hosting and a job well done. Kenneth said they want to thank everyone for helping and furnishing the canopies for shade and rain. We had lots of snacks and fellowship, too. Jack Godwin asked for discussion on the work day at Moro Bay and about changing it from Spring to Fall? Marilyn Hartsfield is talking to Paul Butler about this clean up time and it will be discussed at the next meeting. The Wagonmaster reported the next campout will be July at Maumelle Park at Little Rock. Camp Hosts will be Bennie & Vivian Langheld at site B-3. Hope to see you there. Vona Smith announced that President Marilyn Hartsfield appointed her as Treasurer and Bennie Langheld took on the Wagonmaster job. These are temporary jobs until next election. Vivian asked if anyone had volunteer hours to turn in to Vona. Vivian Langheld closed the meeting with prayer. Meeting adjourned. Reported by Vona Smith Page 4 Arkansam News 2015

5 GOOD SAM MALLARDS The Good Sam Mallards campout was held June at Mississippi River State Park. We had 6 rigs, with an even dozen campers including guest Ashely Miller, granddaughter of Juanita and Danny Hutchison. We found time for relaxing, fishing, playing games, live entertainment, and, as always, great food! Thursday, Danny Hutchison cooked up a tasty crawfish etouffee for dinner. Friday Danny, Joe and Dave tried fishing, with not much luck. The ladies played games. We were joined by Jean and Jerry Hosto for the afternoon. For dinner host Dave Murray cooked up some tasty steaks on that charcoal grill. Joyce West s cousin, C.W. and Miki Gatlin joined us for dinner. Our monthly meeting was brief. The Minutes and Treasurer s reports were accepted. Reports were given on the Samboree, the pull tabs Tommy and Shirley Blackwell delivered to Ronald McDonald House, and the Special Olympics. Of the 9 Arkansas Good Sam members who fed the 1,200 Olympic participants, 4 were from the Mallards, and 2 are our area supervisors! Way to go Mallards! In new business, Harold and Joyce West will host the next campout at Cane Creek July We closed the meeting about the time we had a brief rain, which cooled everything off nicely. Then we were in for an evening of entertainment courtesy of C. W. Gatlin and his fabulous guitar picking and singing. C.W. is an amazing musical artist, and has played professionally with many groups. The guitar music, gorgeous scenery, and a glittering fire were a perfect way to end a great day of fellowship. We want to send a special THANK YOU to the Gatlins for the surprise live concert, and Joyce and Harold West for inviting them!! Saturday morning began with a pancake breakfast by Tommy Blackwell. Martha and William Hosto joined us for the day. After lunch, Joe Hoffpauir made delicious peach ice cream which we all devoured quickly. Later the men and Ashley went fishing at the pond by the office. Ashley caught a big turtle, but nobody caught fish. So-- Dave cooked burgers on the grill, Lenora furnished the fixin s and everyone else added the sides and desserts. We DO eat well! But the bugs found us as the sun went down, so everyone reluctantly headed to their campers. Sunday Lenora led the devotions, with Juanita heading up the singing. We had a light breakfast before heading home. The weather looked threatening, but we all got out before any heavy rain happened. All in all, we sure hope everyone had a great time. Respectfully submitted, Lenora Murray, Secretary One Of the more peaceful spots you ll ever stay PECAN GROVE RV PARK 3768 Hwy 65 LakeVillage, AR (870) Page 5 Arkansam News 2015

We had 7 member rigs and 1 guest rig present at Mt. View. The guests joined us for their maiden trip in a tagalong (They had been camping in a conversion van.). The weather was close to perfect and there was a lot of deck/porch sitting during the evenings with much storytelling and do-you-remembering going on. While playing Sevens, the players had a situation that none of us had ever encountered. The team of Webb, M. Wiggs and Gerg won the entire game on the 1st hand! They caught the rest of us with only 90 points on the table. We figured that we were already down around 7000 points so we conceded the game. We enjoyed spaghetti with sauce imported from Texas along with salad and garlic bread and lots of desserts on Tuesday night. And the Gergs treated us to a brisket on Wednesday evening. We went out for a noon meal at Anglers on Thursday and had ice cream sodas and what was left over from the desserts for supper. A few of us went out Thursday evening to the Folk Center to enjoy the music. Our July campout will be the 8th-10th at Golden Pond. The Area 3 Friendship will be August 18th -21 st at Court Square RV Park in Mt. View, AR. Phone and PLEASE let them know you will be with the Area 3 Friendship when you make your reservation. We plan to have bingo, a Chinese auction, all the usual indoor and outdoor games, door prizes, breakfasts, tacos on Wednesday evening and pork steaks on Thursday evening. As always, may you find smooth roads and level sites. JoAnn ARKANSAS ONE The June meeting of Arkansas One was held at JFK Park near Heber Springs, June 2-7, The campout at JFK is always a lot of fun with James and Linda as hosts at their favorite camping place As always, there was a lot of eating, pot luck style, and a special outing for Linda s birthday with cake and ice cream, too. And no trip to JFK is complete without a big fish fry and pot luck directed by James! Other things that went on during the week: Donita was wasp stung on the arm, and it swelled up. James gave a lesson on changing tires on his camping trailer. We gave thanks to Bud and Jean for passing on the chapter flag. Thank you to Linda Niblett for taking notes, minutes, and passing along this information. It sounds like they had a lot of fun. July s campout is at Wooly Hollow SP (Hwy 65 North of Greenbrier) the (Mon-Fri). Call and request to be near sites 1, 2 and 6. Page 6 Arkansam News 2015
