2 FROM THE DIRECTOR As Samboree time draws ever closer, we continue to fall apart. I am at the Doctor s office today with what I believe to be a hernia. Shirley had an arteriogram last Thursday. It s been 9 years since she had 7 bypasses and was having some of the same symptoms she was having 9 years ago so Dr. Sid thought some of them were at least partially blocked again. HOORAY!! They were all clear, but a couple of other small ones have some blockage which can be managed with medication. No surgery!!! Saturday, we took our dog, Shorty, to the vet; and I m sad to say he has cancer. We hope to keep him comfortable for a while longer. Nevertheless, Samboree plans are moving right along. We plan to leave for a Region Four Directors meeting in Mineola, Texas this Sunday, Feb. 27;. and plan to spend some time meeting with Dwight Duncan at the fairgrounds in Texarkana. J.D. Henley and Shirley have been working on the program and hope to be ready to print it this week. Norma Suggs designed the front cover again; and, as usual, did a great job. Thanks Norma!!! Area Four Friendship is coming up March Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. So come on down to Lake Village to the Pecan Grove RV Park and join the fun. If you have any questions, check with Lawrence and J. D. Henley. Hope to see you there. Area Three Friendship will be held March in Paragould at the Green County Fairgrounds on Highway 49 North. This is a new location. The fairgrounds property in Jonesboro has been sold and they are relocating, hence the move to Green County Fairgrounds in Paragould. Marzell and Curtis are promising a good time this year as always. Hope to see you there, too. And then IT S SAMBOREE TIME. SPRINGTIME IN ARKANSAS APRIL IN TEXARKANA AT FOUR STATES FAIR- GROUNDS. SO LET S DO SOME TRAVELING BEFORE GAS HITS $5.00 A GALLON. Henrietta Campsalot has been busy conferring with Katy Weaver and Pat Havlik and other fun-loving, creative persons; and we would bet (if we were the betting kind) that the SENIOR FOLLIES AND OTHER NONSENSE will be worth a trip to the Samboree. As always, REMEMBER TO SMILE, GOD LOVES YOU. Tommy 2012 Camping Schedule (Members make own reservations. Official campout is 2 nd Wednesday & Thursday nights of month.) A big thank you to Linda Webb who keeps us informed through about the cares and concerns of fellow Chapter members. We are thankful for Herschel Caples good health report. Continue to pray for Mary and Sonny Craig. Her brother died recently and Sonny s sister is gravely ill. Medicine seems to be helping Martha Wagner with her blood pressure situation. We wish her continued improvement. Marzell Carmickle is struggling with pain in her leg during the night. The doctor seems to think that more time is needed for complete healing. 3 Paulette s Palette This is the 3rd newsletter compiled from our winter stay in the Rio Grande Valley of TX. We re again looking forward to attending the Good Sam Rendezvous held at the Alamo, TX Peter Piper Pizza. Upwards of 300 Good Sammers is the normal attendance, and they come from all over the US and Canada. We are fortunate to have a circle of 10 friends who meet each year here in the park in Edinburg where we re staying. This year we ve done a lot of sewing and crafting as well as side trips to visit points of interest in this large area. Of course, we eat a lot, too. A friend commented that she was given so many celebrations for her birthday that she was probably going to overdose from the food rather than any oldperson s malady! After a request from Betty Franz, Oklahoma, mark your calendars for a unique craft experience at the Samboree in Texarkana. We ll be making concrete garden mushrooms. They are a really cute, special addition to your flowerbeds or pots and something easy to make you can brag about. All supplies will be furnished with a nominal charge of $2.00. PLEASE send your next articles for the newsletter to me c/o Citrus Mobile & RV Park, 1700 Lime Street, Edinburg, TX Continue to send your articles there until March 25, The April issue will be the last from TX; May s issue will be after the Samboree, and I m looking forward to sharing the fun info that comes from these meetings! Paulette PARK HOST PLEASE READ It s almost time to begin our park hosting again. I know we all look forward to this, and I want you to enjoy it too. There are a few rules that I want to remind you of that must be followed; and, if we all know and abide by them, there should not be any problems. State insurance rules will not allow anyone (including family, friends, and other campers) to ride on or operate the golf carts. The only exception to this is a state park employee.. A Park Host couple will make the appointed rounds together. A temporary illness could be excepted but anything prolonged should be reported to your park host coordinator so that a replacement might be found. I appreciate each of you and enjoy working with you. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Bob Scott Good Sam Park Host Coordinator BELLA VISTA TRAVELING SAMS The Bella Vista Traveling Sam s met at the Concordia Dining Hall on February 9th with a huge attendance of 30 members and 5 guests. President Joann Cowell opened the meeting and Gary Reynolds led the blessing before we all had a great lunch. After lunch, Joann asked guests to introduce themselves. New guests were Vern & Oleatha Sutter who are the Cowell s neighbors. Guests for the second time were Max & Sandy Klaudt. Gale & Judy Duncan s 11 month old grandson was also present. Wagonmasters John & Arlene Farrell were thanked for arranging the lunch & meeting space. Everyone enjoyed the BE MINE Valentine bingo game played before lunch and appreciated the game prizes. 5 ARKANSAS ROADRUNNERS After a false start last week due to a Winter Weather Watch, we finally got together. The Depot was not quite what we expected, they apparently did not believe us when we told them we would have approximately 20 people. But we made do and it all worked out even though Tootie Darms, Carl and Jane Bushfield and a couple of other folks were almost sitting in the restroom, at least they did have light! It was good to have Marge Clarke and Bea Stadler attend. I always enjoy the continuity that forms in the group when our past members attend. Shirley Hansen brought a friend to give us a short talk on the Legacy Hospice of North Arkansas organization and what it has to offer. Carl who does volunteer work for The Hospice of the Hills organization in Harrison also told us about his group. Thus we learned there is no reason in our community why a terminally ill person and their family should not have help to deal with the emotional and financial sides of a very stressful situation. Help is available and one only has to contact one of the Hospice organizations. We were glad to see Connie Gerg and to learn Mary is off with her sisters in Arizona re-energizing themselves after losing two siblings within a month of each other. If anyone needs to decompress it is Mary. She is always there to help in any situation. Enjoy your vacation girl! I think we all agree the cleanups are more fun than they are work especially if the weather is NOT rainy or snowy. I hate raking in the rain and snow, it is wet, but then that makes the warmth of the campfire more appealing! For everyone planning to attend the Cleanup don't forget to bring your rakes, leaf blowers, gloves, warm and waterproof clothes, and two cans of food for Mary's Famous Hobo Stew, Connie says they will provide the meat. A small dessert is appreciated to go with the stew. We always invite the Park employees to join us, it is a fun lunch. The food is always extraordinarily good and there is plenty of it. I don't think anyone ever loses weight during the Cleanup. Now you know everything I know, next campout March 4-7 at Bull Shoals Cleanup.. 8 LA PETITE ROCHE The La Petite Roche chapter of the Arkansas Good Sam Club met at the Golden Corral in North Little Rock. Tom Anderson said the blessing and then we all had lunch. After lunch, President Bauer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Judy Bauer gave a brief Secretary s report and Cecil Kingrey gave the Treasurer s report. We still have 4 caps left; they are $11/each if any members are interested. Wagonmaster Tom Anderson outlined our camping plans for the next few months. A few members are going from there to Mississippi for their Spring Samboree and will stay over for the Second Chance Sams Rally. All Second Chance Sams members are invited to join us. For April, of course, we will be going to the AR Spring Samboree in Texarkana. May s get-together will be in Hope May 1-5 for the Area 5 Friendship Campout. Everyone is also encouraged to make reservations for the Area 6 Friendship Campout at the Riverside RV Park May We had such a good time there last year, and we hope more of our members come this year. In June we will probably go to Wooly Hollow; July will depend on the weather. Old business included lots of discussions about the decorations for the stage for our Samboree. Bernie Bauer asked for someone to volunteer to be chairman for the decorations committee. No one has volunteered!! Bernie did say that he had contacted John Brown with the State Parks about some posters and also the Farm Bureau about posters. There was no new business and the meeting was adjourned. Judy Bauer, Secretary SUGARLOAF SAMS We were down a little in attendance this month; only 25 members were able to partake of the very reasonably priced breakfast in Drasco at The York Sisters Cafe. We received a letter from Dogs For The Deaf. WE ARE TOP DOGS! That means we gave the most money per Arkansas chapter for We will be recognized by a flag or pennant presented to our chapter after the State Director Tommy Blackwell receives it in our name. Our finances are in good order and that means our charities will benefit nicely. The volunteer hours for our chapter totals 114 for February. 9 BELLE POINT SAMS Who would ever believe this month s weather? I guess one snowfall day in Fort Smith is a reminder that Old Man Winter is still out there. The Belle Point Sams Chapter has been real quiet this month; February is not a busy month for activities anyway. Don Jones set up a lunch/ meeting on February 14 at the Cornerstone Grill and 26 people turned out for a good time of fellowship of RVers. The Meeting started out on a sour note and I don t mean music. Our President Arnie Bogner s RV/home burned completely to the ground along with fire damage to a storage building and carport with a golf cart next to the RV. He had left that morning to go to work and had plans to come to the meeting that night but fate had other plans for him. No one was at the RV when it started to burn and a neighbor saw the fire and called 911. By the time the Fire Department came, it was too late to save the RV but the storage building, carport and the big house next to the carport were saved. Some of the storage and carport buildings wood rafters burned and the golf cart suffered fire damage. If the fire department had not arrived in time, Arnie s friend Don, who lives in the big house next to Arnie s RV who also was not at home, could have lost his home to the fire. Dixie House, Alice Horne and Norma Treat came out to be with the chapter. They had been prayed for by the chapter for their health problems; all 3 looked really good.. One of the missing members Frances Jones is doing ok said Don Jones and she might come to some of our 2012 Chapter trips. Our Vice President was in Texas and could not be there to take charge of the meeting. Otis Edwards, our 2011 Wagonmaster, took charge and ran a tight ship. All the right issues were covered and the ship did not run aground. That s all I know for the Newsletter for February and Hope to see all at the March Mystery Trip conducted by Don Jones to places unknown. Don Schroeder ARKANSAS ONE The January meeting of Arkansas One was held at Smokin in Style BBQ in Hot Springs on the 21st. We all had a good time visiting and enjoying a pleasant meal. Smokin in Style BBQ is always one of our favorite places to go because of their good food. Bits of business and news got covered in conversations and discussions during the meal. David & Brenda Miller are hosts for March, but their motorhome is trapped inside their park by construction so we will have another eatin meetin instead. Brenda will let us know later. Tim Choate has invited us to his house in February. Chef Tim will be preparing his gourmet spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and sweet tea for our dining pleasure. Katy and Brenda will be bringing salads. Dolly and Jean, desserts. Area 4 Friendship Campout will be at Pecan Grove, Lake Village March 6-8. The Samboree in Texarkana will be April Bud agreed to help Katy with a part in her line up of entertainment for one night at the Samboree. In May we will go to the Area 6 Friendship in North Little Rock. It s been a while since we brought donations for Ronald McDonald House. Now might be a good time to start gathering things again.
