2 FROM THE DIRECTORS ROCK CITY SAMS Rock City Sams Chapter held our July camp out at Court Square RV Park in Mountain View, AR. With 10 chapter rigs and one guest rig, we took up one area of the campground. It could have been considered crowded, but being the only ones in that area, we found it cozy instead. Morning coffee drinkers gathered at the camp site of Bob and Ann Scott, which was shady and caught a morning breeze. The campground gave us access to a nicely airconditioned meeting room, which was most appreciated in the hot, sultry afternoons. Hi y'all, HOT HOT HOT describes July!!! We re stuck at home again, No fridge. Got a cooling unit on order and hope to get it for the Area 3 Friendship Campout. Other than this little problem, all is well. Just a short reminder of the Bean Fest, Oct in Mt View. Call to get reservations soon if you plan on going. We will be at Court Square RV Park, but some will be at other parks as well. We had a great time and good turn out last year. We have been keeping up with lots of good campouts in spite of the heat; Good Sammers are tough!!! Please be extremely careful; we have lost so many of our members already this year. May the good Lord keep you safe and well until next time. Bill and Dee For we are God's Masterpiece, he created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do things he planned for us long ago.. Mark 12:30 Campout hosts, Ed and Cindy Cones, organized a potluck for Friday evening, along with all the makings for build-your -own hoagies, following up Saturday morning with fruit, bagels, and muffins. Good job, Cones! Eating is a pastime we all enjoy, so we headed out on Thursday evening to Wing Shack-Cheeseburger Grill to investigate their offerings. They make a mean burger, but if you re tempted to order the Hubcap Cheeseburger, remember it is family-size! On Saturday evening, we caravanned out to JoJo s Catfish Wharf, practically a tradition for RCS when we visit Mountain View. With a view of the White River on one side, a plateful of catfish and fixin s on the table, and Ann Scott s birthday cake for dessert, we were a happy crew. Members enjoyed checking out the shops downtown, listening to music at Jimmy Driftwood Music Barn, and visiting The Ozark Folk Center. There was also some wicked game playing, filled with laughter (even for those of us who lost), which rounded out the weekend. Next month, we head for Shirley, AR, and Golden Pond RV Park. DORCHEAT SAMS We camped out this week at Shady Pines RV in Texarkana, Texas. We had 5 rigs present with Jacky and Caroline Holt visiting with us again. Even though it was hot, we enjoyed our stay. Each afternoon around 3 pm we went to the club house and had coffee and played games. We also ate just about every day in Redwater. The food and service is great. At 4:00 pm on the 9th President Doug Carter opened our meeting. Dale gave our prayer. Doug welcomed our visitors. In our old business the minutes of last month were read. There being no other old business we turned to the new business. We voted to admit the Holt s to our group and look forward to many days of camping with them. Dave closed our meeting with a prayer. 3 SUGAR LOAF SAMS Paulette s Palette August 1st already. It can t be; seems like we just got the summer started! The Britt, IA Fairgrounds Campground has grown with 27 new, full hookup sites this year. We have hosted 6 events already, with 3 or 4 more coming up before the end of September. Three of those events filled all sites. The weekly stock car races changed from Friday to Saturday night and is a real plus for the Fairgrounds. I hope you chose to watch the video I shared on Facebook of the Hancock County District Fair. It s A good old-fashioned Fair where memories are made. Rememberthat chapter elections are coming up in September or October and that dues should be sent to Ann Scott by November 1st. A new roster should accompany the dues. Thanks to all chapters who completed and sent in their quarterly updates to their chapter roster for sending to National. There are several important notices in this issue of the newsletter. Area 2 Friendship and Area 5 Friendship Campouts have been cancelled. We send our sincere condolences to all who have lost loved ones in recent months. Area Friendship Campout has a couple of major changes. Please note these. Exciting news from the Veteran s Chapter: They re scheduling their first annual campout. If you re a member of that chapter, support them with your attendance. I want to again remind everyone that you will always be able to reach me by phone: Paulette or Arnie The Postmaster in Britt is going to take care of our mail through General Delivery so for the August issue of the newsletter again send your snail mail to General Delivery, Britt, IA or send me an with your article as the body of the (redhead.smith2002@gmail.com). Deadline each month is the 25th. If you run into any problems or anything you re not sure of, just let me know. I ll be glad to help in any way I can. The Sugar Loaf Sams met at Rustic Inn on June 24th, 2015 for breakfast. Call to order was opened with prayer by President, Bob Carr. Don Gibson led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call was answered with 23 members present. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Pat Smith; corrections and additions were made. Don Gibson accepted the minutes as amended, and Sarah Henry seconded it. Bill and Robin Jones were voted unanimously into our chapter. They have been a real asset to us, and we are very happy to have them. The Treasurers' report was given. Sunshine Committee reported on members and families going through health issues and losses. The next meeting will be July 22nd, 2015 at Bentleys. Glenn Wallace gave a report on the campout at Denton Ferry. Fifteen people attend with 5 visitors. Everyone enjoyed playing cards, eating (of course), and fishing. Water was a little high for the kayaks. It was great to see Judith Wright and Doyle Edwards join us for the campout. The 50/50 was won by Sarah Henry with a whopping $13. Annoucements were made by President Bob Carr to remind us July marks a -half year has gone by. We must all be thinking about officers for next year. We have lost several members from health problems. Remember, Keep strong; volunteer so our group will continue to grow. Bob Carr had the closing prayer and adjournment. Secretary, Pat Smith Paulette Phillip & Courtney Butts Page 3 Arkansam News 2015

4 GOOD SAM MALLARDS The Mallards campout was July 9-12 at Cane Creek near Star City. Nine members in 5 rigs with one visitor, Ashley Miller, made the trip. Hosts Harold and Joyce West had a tasty hot pork roast with all the fixings for Thursday evening. Friday, Tommy and Shirley Blackwell prepared BLTs for lunch with cooling sherbet ice cream cones as dessert. Our business meeting was held Friday. The minutes and Treasurer s report were approved. We voted to send $100 to Dogs for the Deaf. We are sorry family illness kept the Hostos from attending this month. Due to scheduling conflicts, our August trip will be held the first, not second weekend. Tommy and Shirley Blackwell will host at Village Creek SP August 6-9. We re in Area B and reserved sites and 50 if anyone wants to join us. We adjourned so we could travel to The Village for dinner. The fish buffet at The Village was delicious as always. It looked like some even found room for hot cobbler topped with ice cream. And, as usual, most of us ended up at the Bakery where we all found some fresh-baked pastries for tomorrow. Saturday lunch was leftover pork roast by the Wests. Joe and Sherry Hoffpauir added homemade sherbet that afternoon. Since Wests and Hoffpauirs had to leave, the remaining folks stayed cool playing Hand and Foot inside the Blackwell s motor home. The leftover pork made tasty barbecue sandwiches for supper Saturday. Now that meat really stretched 3 meals on one roast. Guess we need to find Joyce s secret! Sunday Tommy did breakfast and Juanita led the devotionals before it was time to head home. We all want to thank Joyce and Harold West for hosting this fine weekend! Good friends, good games, good food, what more can we ask! Til next time, have safe travels (and no more flat tires). ARKANSAS ONE The July meeting of Arkansas One was held at Woolly Hollow SP, July Ten members were present along with guests Bill and Dee Nery with friends John Moore and Athalene Stafford. Most of us got there on Monday, and headed out for a good meal at Ropers, only to find it closed on Mondays, so we went to the Mexican restaurant instead. Tuesday was a pancake brunch with Charles as chef. Peaches were ripe and ready to be picked at the orchard just down the road, so a few trips were made in that direction, as well as a trip or two to the local grocery store, with a couple of stops at flea markets. Dee Nery found a cool spot for dipping our feet and some of us joined her. Dee thought the spring at Woolly Hollow was the perfect place to cool our feet on a hot day and some of us joined her. There were a couple of rounds of Mexican Train, and a few hands of cards in the evening. Wednesday, Charles and Kathy had pulled pork sandwiches for us. Thursday, at noon, we went back to Roper s.it was good!, and later, we had hot dogs for Bruce s birthday dinner. AUGUST CAMPOUT Lake Catherine State Park August (Thurs.-Sun.) Bud and Jean Wright will be at Lake Catherine as park hosts. Friday night, they will have hot dogs, chili, buns, and tomatoes. Bring something to go with. Saturday noon will be pot luck and they will provide the meat: brisket and ham. Bring dishes to go with this, dessert, salad, veggies, etc. Page 4 Arkansam News 2015

5 LA PETITE ROCHE Our Meeting was Held at the Western Sizzlin in Jacksonville. Eight members were in attendance and one guest. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by LeRoy; a prayer of thankfulness by offered by Tom. LeRoy asked when dues will be paid. I didn't remember but thought it was sometime in October, but told him I would check with the State Secretary. Our next meeting will be another eat-n-meet. We all discussed and decided Western Sizzlin in Jacksonville was the most central location and everyone enjoys the buffet. So we will meet here again on August 19th at 1:30 PM. We met today in the back room because the AC was not working in the small room at the front. We decided we prefer this area it was nice and cool and out of the way of other diners. Our next Campout will be September and the location has changed to Willow Beach. Someone suggested that since we are only having about 2 rigs at the campout that we go to Willow Beach. We can invite the non-camping members to attend and have a Potluck/ Chapter meeting. All agreed that this would be acceptable. Longcriers and Ringlers will make reservations at Willow Beach COE. We will discuss potluck plans at the August meeting. Tom and Lois asked about reserving the meeting room at the Retirement Community for the December Christmas Potluck. It was decided that this would be a good idea. Last year's potluck/party was such a success, we all agreed that Tom should make the reservation. There was no new business discussed. Meeting Adjourned to eat lunch. One Of the more peaceful spots you ll ever stay PECAN GROVE RV PARK 3768 Hwy 65 LakeVillage, AR (870) Page 5 Arkansam News 2015

Wednesday for our Coordinated Potluck we had BBQ Brisket, Chicken, and Pulled Pork and was followed by breakfast Thursday morning. Well fed Jolly Rogers are Happy Campers. We were relieved that Tom Dykhouse who had an encounter with a car while riding his bicycle the week before was able to come for the meeting & potluck. We will be even happier when he recovers from his injuries and is able to camp again. We welcomed Jim & Pat Mason of Siloam Springs as our newest members. Also camping with us as our guests were Lou & Mille Holtz from Rogers. I think the dominoes score is about even between the Guys & Gals, and it got pretty loud around the fast track table as well. It s good to see everyone laughing and having a good time even when they lose. Gary Hearron Chapter Secretary Next month we go to Bennett Springs SP in MO. 9 BELLE POINT SAMS Belle Point Sam Chapter Members met at the old Wal-Mart parking lot in Alma, AR to caravan to the Coachlight RV Park for the July Campout. Shortly after everyone was set-up we gathered in the Park s Rally Room for our meeting followed by a delicious pot-luck supper of different salads and a desert. Once the room was cleaned up and everyone took their left-overs back to their rigs, some of the gals came back and played cards and some of the guys sat around socializing. Wednesday morning we all ate out of our rigs for breakfast, and at 10:00 am the gals had craft time in the Rally Room making Christmas Bird House ornaments and the men swapping stories. Later in the day some members went to the local Amish Store and made some purchases and then visited the Red Oak II Village. They were honored by the Artist Lowell Davis coming out and talking with them and even inviting them into his home and giving them a tour of his sculptures and paintings. Sirloin Stockade provided a delicious and filling supper. Evening activities were duplicated. Thursday morning we had an awesome potluck breakfast. Later in the day some other members went to the local Amish Store and visited the Red Oak II Village. Thursday afternoon most of us traveled to the Mexican Restaurant Mis Arcos for another delicious and filling supper. Due to the constant rain during this campout there was no Cobbler cooked by John in his Dutch oven with charcoal. Friday morning everyone packed up and headed home until the next campout. BELLA VISTA TRAVELING SAMS The Bella Vista Traveling Sams met at the Branson Lakeside RV Park in Branson, MO for their June 2015 camp out. Don & Joann Cowell were the Wagonmasters for the trip. There was no formal meeting held during this camp out. Monday night June 8 th the group met for a potluck supper in the club house since it was hot outside. Tuesday Char and Larry provided a great breakfast for the group. The group met at the Sight and Sound Theatre and had a wonderful back stage tour. Pat Hoyt realized that he was too slow to be an actor and change his clothes in 90 seconds! That night the group went up the street to Famous Dave s for supper. Several had their food served on a garbage can lid. Some went to see the Texas Tenors after supper. Wednesday morning Virginia served eggs and bacon before Don, Bob M., Larry and Art left to go golfing. Some of the group went shopping or touring in Branson. Max & Linda Waugh went to see Jonah that evening. Larry and Char went to see that show Thursday afternoon. Thursday morning, Don and Joann served fruit and muffins to the group. Pat & Jo Hoyt went bicycle riding that morning and Art & Wilma went to a show and more shopping was done by others. Thursday evening the group went to the 76 Grand Country Buffet for supper. *************** On July 8th, the Bella Vista Traveling Sam s went to the Wanderlust Campground in Eureka Springs. Duane Johnson and Joan Dahl served as hosts for the trip, which included six rigs. It rained cats and dogs (I know because I stepped in a Puddle) but it didn t keep us from enjoying a great potluck dinner, thanks to the nice indoor facilities at the campground. After dinner the group played Mexican Train. Oleatha had the highest score, but didn t win as we told her the game wasn t bowling...high score didn t win at Mexican Train. Thursday the ladies all went to town and enjoyed lunch at the Tea House. They spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the shops in town. The men went to the Cat Fish House for lunch. Max and Rick worked that afternoon on the Cowell s refrigerator. Using Joan s toothbrush to clean out the burner, (he told them it was his!!) and got the propane working again. Thanks to the great skill of fellow campers, and everyone s willingness to help each other with RV problems, problems were solved, which always helps to make for a great trip. Thursday night we all enjoyed a dinner at Spark s restaurant. A nice trip was had by all, concluding with a wonderful breakfast of blueberry pancakes provided by Duane and Joan to top off and conclude the event. Page 9 Arkansam News 2015
