This is the first summer in six years that Joyce and I stayed home. It seemed like every day one of us was saying Wow, I don t remember it being this hot here during the summer. It was great that all of you on the road kept up with us by posting on Facebook and sending us updates and photos. September Campout News New Smyrna Beach Cares & Concerns Jim Galusha is recovering from a heart cauterization. Dick Weis recovering from back injury sustained in a fall while on vacation. Charlie Ritenburgh and Derek Pymer both had cochlear implants and are adjusting to them. Please keep these members in your thoughts and prayers. September is typically a smaller campout because some members are still on the road. This month s meeting was hosted by Jan and Joyce Heise along with John Hudak and Judy Trout. We had ten RVs with twenty people, and Carol Raabe joined us for dinner Friday and during the day Saturday. Dinner Friday was at Norwood s Seafood Restaurant where we were joined by Carol Raabe and her college roommate, Lana, and her husband. Summer Campout News Many of our members travelled throughout North America during the summer. It is great to be part of a very active Good Sam Chapter where our members do more than get out the RV to go to local campouts. At least four or five of our members are still on the road and missed our 1

2 We also celebrated Dale and Phyllis Horn s anniversary. Good food and fellowship was enjoyed by all. Saturday dinner was a potluck with a spiral ham provided by the hosts. As usual we had way more food than we could consume. Saturday evening we played card bingo with manly prizes from Harbor Freight, and lotto tickets for the ladies. Marge and Cliff were the big winners with a $40 lotto ticket. Welcome! We want to welcome Bruce and Kathy King who visited this campout and decided to join our chapter. The honeymooners Dale and Phyllis, could not resist a photo op in the lounge in front of Norwood s. Well they were honeymooners on this day a few years ago. Saturday Morning we had a pancake breakfast provided by our hosts, and then we held our regular chapter meeting. After lunch we had a rousing game of bean bag baseball with the highest scores we can ever recall. Team 2 prevailed with a final score of 16 to 11. This game had us pondering Why can t we do this at the rally s? We had people who scored three and four home runs during the game. Our oldest active members, Cliff and Marge had six hits each and only one out each. Wow, what an exciting game. Girl Scout Donation and Thanks Last spring after our ladies visited the cannery in Brooksville we made a $200 donation so that the lady in charge could hold a canning class for a local group of Girl Scouts. They were very excited about the class and sent us a photo of the group and a thank you note. The winning team. What a game! Girl Scouts at the cannery. 2

3 It is really great to be able to donate to so many wonderful and appreciative organizations. Penny took a photo of Derek and Cookie. She also brought some of the old chapter photo albums and the three of them had a great visit reminiscing about the good ole days. At this time the Green s, Ritenburgh s and Derek have been with the Golden Triangle Chapter the longest. Their visit ended with a wonderful lunch at the local Italian Restaurant. Florida State Fall 2018 Rally The Thank You note from the Girl Scouts A Visit with Derek During the summer Cookie Green and Penny Ritenburgh paid a visit to Derek Pymer to give him the Chapter s 40 year pin. It s not too early to start planning for the fall rally. The Florida 2018 State Fall Rally will be held at Southern Palms RV Resort in Eustis, FL. The dates are November with early bird November 13. The theme is Wild Wild West. We will be serving cookies and drinks for Hosptality Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, and will have a raffle for gift cards. The registration form is available on the Good Sams of Florida website: South Carolina State Fall 2018 Rally The South Carolina Fall Rally will be held Oct 4-6, 2018 at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dale and Debby Lundmark are attending and would like to have some company. If you are interested in going, see info at the link below. 3

5 Golden Triangle Sam's Minutes September 8, 2018 President Steve Griffin called the meeting to order at 10:05 AM at New Smyrna Beach RV Park. Carol Raabe gave the invocation, followed by Past Presidents Dale Horn and Mickey Marks leading the group in the pledge to the flag. Acting Secretary Janet Marks did a silent roll call, with 10 member/couples and one guest present. Carol Griffin introduced our guests, Bruce & Kathy King, who were invited by Ken Culp. Cliff Chase moved and Debby Lundmark second that the minutes be approved as mailed; motion passed. In Penny Ritenburgh's absence, Charlie Green presented the treasurer's report. There was $ income (from cards, raffle, sandwich sales, sale of hats & pet memorial). Balance at the end of May was $ Steve presented the bill for the internet. Joyce moved and Phyllis seconded that the bill be paid; motion passed. Treasurer's report was approved as presented. Committee Reports:. Cookie Green gave extensive Sunshine report: Jim Galusha had a heart cauterization which went well (sent card); also send card the Sims on the loss of their daughter; send card to Michele Mann on the loss of her mother. She reported that Dick Weis fell while on vacation and hurt his back but is doing a little better. Nancy Leonard's mammogram checkup was clear, and they are on their way to pick up her sister in Tennessee. Charlie Ritenburgh received a cochlear implant; surgery was successful, and he is gradually getting more used to it; they are in Michigan helping a widowed friend with her home. Cliff reported that Derek Pymer also had a cochlear implant but having problems with dizziness; has good and bad days. Jan Heise requested that we send him info for the newsletter. Books for Vets: our guests, the Kings, brought in 3 boxes of books to donate! Janet Marks reported that she will be updating the address book and mailing out the pdf version after the weekend. The webpage will also be updated with more info about the October campout. Greens and Wards are hosting at Sandy Oak in Crystal River. Call ASAP to reserve your spot They will have pot luck breakfast on Saturday. Bring Italian themed items for dinner Saturday night. Hosts will provide breakfast Sunday. No news from Loaves & Fishes. Carol Raabe explained about pet memorials for our guests. Bob Sims suggested we might help some of the rescue groups helping animals caught in the red tide. He will research organizations. Consensus was to send $50 to the group. Beverly Sims is no longer able to do the Coupons for Troops in Dianne Gonya's absence. We agreed to table that project until Dianne returns. Jan Heise announced Bean Bag Baseball would be in the clubhouse at 1:00; tonight after dinner, Bingo and /or card games for whole group. Carol Raabe has some shirts - donating to anyone who needs them. Cliff spoke about Boggy Creek, and explained for guests; Janet delivered a number of bears and blankets over the summer. Carol G brought 4 bags of tumbleweeds and 3 bear skins from Tina and several blankets, which Janet will deliver this week. Steve thanked Cliff and Marge for all they have done over the past years for Boggy Creek. Cliff invited anyone who would like, to the next bear stuffing party. New Business: Steve mentioned we will need a nominating committee to be formed in October. Be thinking about volunteering, or who might be good officers for next two years. 5

6 The December/Christmas campout has been changed to Wild Frontier in Ocala. They are opening a new section of campsites where we will be. The Fall Good Sams of Florida Rally will be Nov. 13 (early bird), at Southern Palms in Eustis. We will be serving cookies and punch for Hospitality on Tues and Wed. The theme is Wild, Wild West, so wear boots, cowboy hats, etc. We will do our gift card raffle (each member donates one card per year). Jan Heise reported that after selling the flags donated by Steve & Tina he still had about 40 left. In May he donated them on behalf of our chapter to Boy Scouts in his troop to display on Memorial Day. Steve also thanked and commented that the Halls have generously donated many items for the rallies and for Boggy Creek. The Lundmarks commented that they are going to the South Carolina Rally in October and invited others to join them. 50/50 Drawing: $30 was sold -- $15 to Chapter and $15 to winner who was Cliff Chase! He generously donated it back to Chapter. Cliff moved and Dale Horn seconded that we adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 11:24. Respectfully submitted, Janet Marks 6
