2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 14 MAY 18 TO 20 MAY 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 11 21: UPDATE 11 19: UPDATE 13 01: UPDATE 13 20: UPDATE 14 12: : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS SAR members from Wells Gray and 1 from Vernon responded to search for a missing person that fell into the Mad River. RCMP reactivated SAR to continue the search. An overflight of the river was conducted and nothing was found. SAR was stood down by RCMP LAND Kamloops SAR members assisted with additional searches to locate the body of a missing male in Sun Peaks, Kamloops (X-REF SAR ). Subject not located. SWE SWE Squamish SAR members responded to search for a male that was swept into the river near the 200 block Ashlu FSR, Squamish. After two days or searching, SAR was stood down as nothing was found Squamish SAR members responded following reports of two unmanned rafts floating down the Squamish River. One member saw two subjects get into a vehicle and SAR was stood down Vernon SAR members responded to rescue a female trapped with her feet tangled in a rope, on a capsized boat, on Kalamalka Lake near Vernon. SAR was stood down as the local Fire Rescue team assisted the subject. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist a 74 year old male with a knee injury, on the Brohm Lake Trail near Squamish. The injured patient was rescued and transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to assist the Fire Dept with 8 hikers that were stranded/trapped above an interface fire near Tunnel Point (4km north of Lions Bay). Subjects were escorted out to safety by SAR. SWE AIR ELT 4 4 PEP Air members responded to search for an ELT sounding at the Abbotsford Airport. Nothing was located and the signal was getting weaker so JRCC stood down PEP Air but reactivated them the following day, however the ELT was still not located. LAND Oliver/Osoyoos SAR and 9 Penticton SAR members responded to assist with a parachutist or para glider in trouble at Spirit Ridge near Osoyoos. The RCMP stood SAR down after receiving a report that indicated a successful landing was made, and no-one had been reported missing. VIR LAND Powell River, 2 Campbell River and 4 Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to search for a missing hiker who's last known location was around Spring Lake Road, Powell River. The hiker was located and escorted out by the SAR members. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to rescue a individual that was hanging off the Trent River Trestle in Cumberland. The subject was rescued suffering a fractured leg and was turned
3 14 21: : : : : : : : : : over to BCAS SWE Ridge Meadows SAR members responded following a report of a boater adrift in the Fraser River. SAR was down by RCMP, after the area was searched with no sign of anyone in distress. NWE 1 1 Terrace SAR member was contacted in regards a request for assistance from the RCMP who received a report of an overturned boat on the Skeena River at Kasiks Creek Bridge. The RCMP launched their fixed wing as water conditions were not safe to launch a SAR boat. SWE LAND Hope SAR members responded to search for a missing elderly female last seen in Yale. RCMP stood SAR down after nothing was found. SEA Nelson SAR members responded to conduct a water rescue, after a fatal vehicle incident, near the Walker Bridge at Erickson. One subject was rescued and passed to the RCMP. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to locate a missing female hiker in the Sechelt District. RCMP located the subject and SAR was consequently stood down. SWE LAND Surrey SAR members responded to search for a missing elderly male near the 7300 block of King George Blvd. The subject was located safe and sound. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR member responded to search for a missing 7 year old boy last seen at his home in Nanaimo. SAR was stood down prior to mustering as the subject was located alive and well. VIR LAND A total of 121 SAR members from Cowichan Valley, Metchosin, Ladysmith, Juan de Fuca, PEMO, Saltspring, Nanaimo, Alberni Valley Rescue Squad and Comox Valley SAR teams responded to assist with the search for a missing despondent male near Duncan. <<<ONGOING>>> SWE LAND 2ELT Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for two missing 10 year olds last seen at their school on Brooks Ave. The youths were located safe and sound and SAR was stood down. SEA 1 1 Castlegar SAR member responded following a report received by RCMP of a 15 foot boat floating on the Columbia River. Due to extremely fast flowing river conditions, with no missing person reported, it was determined that SAR would not deploy, due to safety concerns. LAND Penticton SAR members responded to a report of a despondent teenager in the vicinity of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail near Summerland. The teen was located in good condition and the SAR team stood down. VIR LAND Campbell River SAR members responded to rescue an injured 12 year old, who fell on some rocks at the end of Ripple Rock Trail. BCAS stood down SAR because the youth's teacher was able to carry the subject down the trail. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured base jumper in distress on The Squamish Chief. The subject was rescued,
4 17 15: : : : : : : : suffering minor injuries and made his own way to the hospital. LAND Peachland Fire Rescue members responded following reports of a boater in distress at North Beach Road, near Summerland. The boaters were not in distress when the team arrived. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR and 1 Nelson SAR member responded to rescue several people trapped in a vehicle due to a landslide at Maryland Creek FSR near Creston. The subjects were successfully retrieved by BCAS and SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for two lost mountain bikers on Vedder Mountain. Both of the subjects were found and brought out safe and sound. LAND Kamloops SAR members responded to rescue an unconscious female who was with her husband, up a deactivated mining road in the Little Fort area. The road was at an elevation with significant snow which made it impassable. The subject was successfully rescued by SAR and transferred to BCAS. NEA AIR 1ELT PEP Air member responded to assist JRCC with an ELT sounding in the Liard Lake/Watson Lake area. It was later determined that it was actually a crashed aircraft and the pilot had been rescued and transported to the hospital. SWE Mission SAR members responded to rescue an overdue boater on Stave Lake. The subject made it back to the boat launch and SAR was stood down Shuswap RCM SAR members responded at the request of BCAS to rescue an injured male on Shuswap Lake. The subject was rescued by SAR and passed to BCAS. 8 8 Naramata and Penticton Fire Rescue members responded to rescue a possible boater in distress at Pyramid Beach in Summerland. When the members arrived on scene they found no boaters in distress. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate 4 lost hikers in the Mount Seymour area. The SAR members located the hikers and escorted them back out to the parking lot. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR members responded to assist a subject stuck on a cliff near the Fort Steele Bridge. SAR was stood down while en route. No file number was generated by either BCAS or RCMP. LAND Vernon SAR members responded following reports of two 2 disoriented campers at Echo Lake Campground, near Lumby. BCAS advised that there was no medical emergency and the SAR team was stood down : Kelowna Fire Dept and 1 COSAR member responded following report of a female who had jumped in to Okanagan Lake and was unable to get to shore. The team was stood down upon their arrival, after the subject managed to swim to shore on her own :21 NWE Terrace SAR members responded to search for
5 a missing canoeist on Kitsumkalum Lake. SAR members located the subject, walking along the highway in good condition : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE SWE LAND Lions Bay and 17 Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker up the Petgill Lake Trail, near Britannia Beach. SAR teams stood down after the subject was safely extracted via heli and transferred to BCAS. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members were in the hall washing command vehicles, when a passer-by dropped off a 3 year old child that was wandering down the road without a parent or guardian. The child was in good condition and was passed to the RCMP and handed over to Ministry of Children & Family Development Okanagan Falls Marine Rescue members responded following reports of a kayaker who fell out of his kayak without a life jacket on, at Vaseux Lake. SAR stood down when they arrived to find that the subject had made his way to shore unharmed. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured female hiker on the Sea to Sky Trail, in the Squamish area. SAR stood down after the subject was safely extracted via heli and transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to locate an elderly male missing from his home in Squamish. The SAR team was stood down when the male was located in West Vancouver, by the local police. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue an injured female hiker on the Quarry Rock Trail outside of North Vancouver. SAR was stood down by BCAS after the Fire Dept responded. SEA 9 7 Sparwood and 2 Elkford SAR members responded to rescue potential occupants of a vehicle in the river behind the Sparwood Recreation Centre. Swiftwater SAR responded to find a derelict auto frame with no cab and no occupants SAR members from Princeton and 1 from Oliver/Osoyoos responded following reports of a motorcycle that went off of Coalmont Road into Otter Lake, near Tulameen. SAR was stood down when the subject was located in the lake, deceased. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue an injured mountain biker on Danimal North Trail in Whistler. The mountain biker was escorted down the trail and handed over to BCAS ELT ELT - 10

On 15 May, a flooding incident was created in Penticton for flood preparation in the Lakeshore Drive area. On 15 May, a flooding incident was created for the Squamish Lillooet Regional District s EOC activation and flood monitoring. On 15 May, a flooding incident was created for Kelowna due to rising water on Okanagan Lake.

On 15 May, a flooding incident was created for the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) due to rising water on Okanagan Lake. On 15 May, an incident was created for Penticton due to the potential for flooding in the Penticton Creek area. On 15 May, an incident was created for Enderby in anticipation of rising water levels in the Shuswap River. On 15 May, an incident was created for the Adams Lake First Nations for spring freshet flooding. On 15 May, a flooding incident was created in the Kent District flood monitoring along the Fraser River. On 15 May, an incident was created for Chilliwack s Skwah First Nations EOC for flood response along the Fraser River. On 16 May, a flooding incident was created for Burnaby s EOC to engage in flood monitoring and preparedness. On 16 May, an incident was assigned to Metro Vancouver Regional District for the evacuation alert of Barnston Island. On 16 May, a flooding incident was issued to Vernon for imminent flooding concerns along Lakeshore Drive. On 16 May, a flooding incident was issued to Lake Country District for flood monitoring along Trask Road. On 16 May, an incident was issued to Lake Country District for flood monitoring along the Okanagan Rail Trail. On 16 May, a flooding incident was generated for Kamloops to monitor flooding along the Thompson River. On 16 May, a flooding incident was created for the Lower Nicola First Nations (Nicola Mameet IR#1) in the TNRD for evacuation alerts on Fyall Road. On 16 May, an incident was opened for Olala in the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District (OSRD) due to spring freshet flooding. On 17 May, an incident was opened for Savona s Skeetchestn First Nations EOC activation, following a residence s footing being eroded from river bank.
8 On 17 May, an incident was created for Coquitlam s Kwikwetlem First Nations for flood support and response near the Fraser and Coquitlam Rivers. On 17 May, an incident was created for Chilliwack s Shxwhay First Nations for flood monitoring of the Fraser River. On 17 May, an incident was created for Agassiz s Skawahlook First Nations EOC activation for flood preparation and monitoring of the Fraser River. On 17 May, an incident was created for North Okanagan Regional District for the removal of debris and erosion evaluation at Bessette Creek in Lumby. On 17 May, an incident was opened for the?eseilagh First Nation community, in the Cariboo Regional District due to the potential flooding impacts on residential water sources and supplies. On 17 May, an incident was created for Agassiz s Stsailes First Nations EOC activation to commence flood monitoring. On 17 May, an incident was initiated for the North Okanagan Regional District (NORD) due to flooding near Whitevale Road, Lumby. On 18 May, an incident was created for the District of Surrey s EOC activation to initiate flood monitoring. On 18 May, an incident was issued to the Central Kootenay Regional District (RDCK) for flood mitigation in the Slocan Valley. On 18 May, an incident was opened for the EOC activation in the District of Wells due to respond to impacts of freshet flooding. On 18 May, an incident was opened for Peters First Nations to allow for flood mitigation along the Fraser River. On 19 May, a flood incident was opened for Chawathil First Nations due to high water on the Fraser River. On 20 May, an incident was opened for the Leq'a:mel First Nations to monitor flooding from the Fraser River. LANDSLIDES On 16 May, a home along Brent Road was swept into Okanagan Lake by a landslide that occurred in Peachland, Central Okanagan Regional District. On 17 May, Highway 3 was covered in debris from a landslide, in the Creston area, rendering it impassible. MISCELLANEOUS
9 On 16 May, a hazmat incident impacted one unit on Cooper Road in View Royal. One resident was displaced and provided ESS assistance for one night s accommodation, meals and transportation. On 18 May, Shirley Volunteer Fire Dept responded to a medical rescue of a person that suffered a traumatic head injury in the China Beach parking lot, in Jordan River. The patient was handed over to BCAS for assessment, treatment and transport URBAN INTERFACE FIRES On 15 May, an interface fire (K70207) in Squamish Lillooet Regional District s Yalakom Valley triggered the activation of the EOC in support of wildfire activities. On 16 May, an interface fire (K20203) burning in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District s Tunkwa Lake area resulted in the evacuation of one family, who went with family/friends and didn t require ESS. On 18 May, an interface fire (K20240) burning in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District along Shuswap Road triggered a tactical evacuation of a mobile home park.
