2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 26 FEB 18 TO 4 MAR 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # : : : UPDATE 01 06: : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded for a SOS call received by satellite phone from the back-country of Cherryville. SAR was stood down when the unknown number of subjects were rescued from an avalanche by a lodge helicopter and passed to BCAS. Updated information from the lodge indicates that this was a tree well incident not an avalanche and that one person was taken to hospital in Vernon and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. SEA LAND Kimberley SAR members responded to search for an overdue back-country skier near the Boulder Hut. The skier was located by SAR members in good condition. CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded to rescue an injured snowmobiler from the Park/Nelson area near Lumby. The subject was located and airlifted out of the area. He was transferred to BCAS for immediate transport to the Kelowna Hospital for treatment. CTL LAND 7 7 Kamloops SAR members responded to search a new area of interest after the RCMP received additional information regarding the search for a missing male in the Burfield Drive area. The search failed to locate any new evidence and SAR was stood down. SWE LAND 2 2 Ridge Meadows SAR responded to investigate abnormal lights observed in Golden Ears Park. SAR stood down when it was determined that the subjects were loggers conducting normal operations on the flanks of Alouette Mountain. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate an out-of-bounds skier on Cypress Mountain in North Vancouver. Subject was retrieved unharmed. SWE LAND Whistler SAR member responded to assist with an injured snowmobiler suffering from lower back pain in the Brandy Wine area of Whistler. Blackcomb snowmobilers came across the subject and brought him down to the valley to meet with BCAS. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded following a report of a small avalanche on the south side of Whistler Mountain. One male was stranded by the avalanche with no equipment. He was extracted via helicopter and brought out to safety. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate a missing 72 year old female in Lynn Canyon. SAR was stood down as the Fire Dept rescued the subject who was located alive and well,

3 01 18: : : : : : : : : : : but down a steep ravine. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to search for a missing 5 year old girl near Irwin Street. SAR was stood down after the subject was located alive and well by family members. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue a injured skier on Rainbow Mountain, near Whistler. The subject was transport via helicopter to the Whistler Helipad and transferred to BCAS for treatment. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR responded to rescue an injured back-country skier who had hunkered down inside Brian Waddington Hut on Birkenhead Range. The injured skier was rescued via helicopter and transferred to BCAS. VIR LAND Campbell River SAR member responded to search for a missing elderly male with dementia near the North Island Hospital. SAR was stood down when the subject was located at a local community centre. SWE LAND Hope SAR members responded to assist at the scenes of multiple vehicle accidents along the Coquihalla Highway. BCAS was unable to access the incident locations due to inclement weather conditions. SAR successfully accessed two patients and provided first aid until they could rendezvous with BCAS. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue member responded to search for a missing elderly male near Park Royal. SAR was stood down when RCMP located the subject. SWE LAND Whistler SAR member responded to search for 4 lost tourists at the base of Blackcomb Mtn. The subjects found their own way out and SAR was stood down. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to rescue an injured snowmobiler in the Renshaw area near McBride. The subject was rescued and brought to a waiting ambulance for transport to the hospital. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca SAR members responded to rescue an injured 75 year old male hiker on the Sand Cut Trail, near Shirley/Sooke. The subject self rescued, walked out of the location and SAR was stood down enroute. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to assist an injured 42 year old snowmobiler, 7 km up from the Brandywine parking lot near. SAR located, packaged and transported the subject via helicopter to the Whistler Medical Centre for treatment. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR responded to rescue a diabetic sledder who became stranded at Sun Peaks Resort. The subject's companion walked out, but the subject remained behind, unable to climb the steep slope to the trail. SAR made their way in,

4 03 20: : : : : : : : : guided by the subject's companion, and managed to retrieve and bring the subject out, leaving their machines there for later retrieval by the snowmobile club. SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR responded to a report of a missing snowmobiler in the Eagle Pass Mountain area. SAR was stood down when the subject was located in good condition by passing local snowmobilers. NWE LAND Bulkley Valley SAR responded to a report of a missing sledder up Blunt Creek Forest Service Road. Team was able to locate the sledder who was successfully escorted out of the area. CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded to rescue an unresponsive snowmobiler after he crashed his machine into a creek east of Mable Lake near Enderby. The subject was located deceased and transferred to the BC Coroners Service. SEA LAND Fernie SAR members responded to rescue an injured snowmobiler. The subject was located and transferred to BCAS in stable condition. SWE LAND Surrey SAR members responded to located a missing male Alzheimer's patient in the Morgan Crossing/Morgan Heights area of Surrey. The subject was located in good condition shortly after SAR activation. CTL LAND COSAR members responded to rescue a subject in cardiac distress who was in the Hilton Snowmobile Cabin in Greystokes. The subject was rescued via helicopter and transferred to BCAS for transport to hospital. CTL LAND Penticton and 9 Oliver SAR responded to rescue a subject trapped in an avalanche near Apex Mountain. Members of the group were able to locate and dig the unconscious subject out. He was transported via helicopter back to Apex Resort where he was treated by BCAS. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR and 3 Whistler SAR members responded to assist an injured male, NE of Joffrey Lake, near Pemberton. The subject was rescued and transferred to BCAS for treatment. SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR members responded to retrieve 2 lost skiers near Revelstoke Mountain Resort. The subjects were located by SAR in good condition. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for 2 lost hikers on St. Marks Mountain. Both subjects were located and brought out safely by SAR members. CTL LAND Oliver SAR responded to a report of a out-of-bounds skier on Baldy Mountain. SAR was stood down prior to arrival after ski patrol was able to locate and pick up the subject ELT - 0 WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO ELT - 26

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Feb 26 Mar 04 MISCELLANEOUS On 1 Mar 18, RCMP requested SAR assist with rescuing a dog over a cliff in Errington. SAR was stood down when the dog was rescued. LANDSLIDE On 2 Mar 18, a task was initiated in response to a landslide/road failure/rock fall that occurred on January 25, 2018, on Spencer Road in the Thompson Nicola Regional District.
