2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 17 JUL 17 TO 23 JUL 17 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 12 08: UPDATE 15 17: UPDATE 17 13: : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS SWE LAND Kent Harrison, Surrey, Chilliwack, Mission and North Shore SAR members responded to search for a couple missing since July 3rd near Harrison Lake. The man's body was found after several days of searching. The female is still missing and RCMP have stood the search down COSAR and Kelowna fire members responded to rescue two boaters on Okanagan Lake. One subject was rescued and the second person was not located. SAR was stood down by RCMP. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca and 12 Metchosin SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker in East Sooke Park. The hiker was evacuated by boat and transferred to BCAS for treatment Penticton Marine Rescue members responded to rescue a subject in the Penticton River canal. The subject was located on a ledge, was assisted off the ledge and continued floating down the river. NWE AIR Terrace SAR members responded to the report of a small plane that crashed into the Skeena River. The SAR team responded to the location and found the plane safely down on a sandbar in the river. After assessing the two occupants of the plane it was determined that no SAR assistance or first aid was needed. The SAR team was stood down. SEA LAND Columbia Valley, 5 Cranbrook, 16 Kimberley and 3 Golden SAR members responded to a missing 5 year old in Wilmer. SAR teams were stood down when the subject was located by RCMP. NEA LAND Fort Nelson SAR members responded to rescue a woman who was injured in horseback incident. SAR safely extracted the subject and passed her off to BCAS. VIR LAND Campbell River SAR members responded to search for two overdue hikers last reported at Ester Lake in Strathcona Park. The hikers were located in good condition, flown out of the area to family members waiting in the trailhead parking lot SWE SWE Ridge Meadows and 8 CFV SAR members responded to rescue a male that fell off a barge near McMillan Island in the Fraser River. SAR was stood down as no evidence of the subject was located Okanagan Falls Marine Rescue members responded to rescue two people in distress on Vaseux Lake. The two boaters were located and towed to shore, cold but otherwise in good condition Kent Harrison SAR members responded to a possible drowning in Harrison Lake. Nothing was found and SAR was stood down. The sighting may have been a seal. VIR LAND Port Alberni SAR members responded to locate two missing hikers (one who is a insulin dependant

3 : : ; : : : : diabetic) in Kia Bay near Bamfield. SAR was stood down when subjects returned on their own. SWE LAND Hope SAR members responded to locate a missing person at the Alexander Bridge near Hope. The subject was hiding nearby and was located in good condition. SWE LAND 3 3 North Shore Rescue members responded to an RCMP request to investigate a report of a person yelling at a helicopter. The SAR team investigated and found no one in distress. SEA LAND Golden SAR members responded to rescue a person with a shoulder injury on Vowell Forest Service Road. SAR was stood down when the resort was able to rescue the subject on their own. SWE LAND Squamish SAR member responded to rescue an injured mountain biker at Alice Lake near Squamish. Squamish Fire Department took the call and SAR was stood down. VIR LAND Cowichan Valley SAR members responded to rescue an injured dirt biker in a gravel pit near Shawnigan Lake. The subject was rescued by bystanders and SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Kent Harrison SAR members responded to an RCMP request to rescue a downed para glider near Agassiz. SAR was stood down when the patient was assisted by the fire department. VIR LAND Cowichan Valley SAR members responded to locate a missing 23-year-old hiker. The subject was found deceased. NEA Quesnel SAR members responded to search for three overdue rafters on the Cottonwood River. The rafters were located at a nearby residence having breakfast. SWE Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to locate overdue canoeists. SAR stood down when the canoeists arrived back at the boat launch Naramata & Penticton Marine Rescue members responded to locate a swimmer being chased by RCMP in Okanagan Lake near Summerland. The swimmer made it to shore safely and Fire was stood down. SWE LAND Coquitlam SAR member responded to locate a lost elderly male walking along the Fraser River that phoned 911 for assistance. SAR was stood down when the subject was found, in good condition by RCMP. SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to locate a father and daughter hiking between the Lions & Davids Peak. The subjects were located, transported out and passed to RCMP, alive and well. SWE LAND Powell River SAR members responded to locate a disoriented female hiker on a trail in Lund. The SAR members found the subject in good health and assisted her out to safety. 3 3 Kelowna Marine Rescue responded to a report of a boater in distress on Okanagan Lake. Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded and found no one in distress

4 20 19: : SWE LAND Surrey SAR members responded to assist an elderly male with dementia in the Ladner / North Surrey area. Subject was located in good condition and was reunited with his wife. NEA AIR ELT 1 1 PEP Air member responded to JRCC request for an ELT sounding in the Dawson Creek area. JRCC launched the Buffalo and PEP Air were stood down : : : : : : : : : : : : SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue an injured mountain biker near the Comfortably Numb Trail in Whistler. SAR members picked the subject up in their truck and transferred him to BCAS with rib injuries. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR responded to a missing 11yr old boy on Mt. Benson. The subject was located safely by a hiker. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR member responded to rescue a 65 year old male with a leg injury. AIR ELT 2 2 PEP AIR members responded to a JRCC request for assistance with an ELT. Members found that it was a beacon on a boat and it was a false alarm Shuswap SAR members responded to a collision amongst two seadoos on Neilson Beach in the Sicamous District. The subject was rescues and transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate a lost hiker on Grouse Mountain. The subject was not prepared and needed to be longlined off of the mountain due to steep terrain. He was located in good condition Penticton & Okanagan Rescue responded to rescue a boater in distress on Skaha Lake near Penticton. The boaters were towed ashore to safety. NWE LAND Terrace SAR responded to locate a despondent male off Hwy 16 on the Copper River Bridge who had threatened to jump into swift waters. RCMP successfully de-escalated the situation and subject was brought to safety. SAR stood down during callout. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue a injured hiker in Mount Seymour Provincial Park. The SAR team got the subject out without needing the approved ASE. LAND Vernon SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker at the Enderby Cliffs Hiking Trails. A helicopter winch was used to extract the person off the mountain and transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue responded to rescue a disoriented male in Drifter Creek on Grouse Mountain. SAR long lined the subject out before dark and released him to the RCMP. SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR and 4 North Shore Rescue Members responded to rescue a subject who sustained an allergic reaction from bee stings at Deeks Lake Trail in North Lions Bay. The subject was retrieved successfully and brought to BC Ambulance for treatment : Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to

5 assist a windsurfer in distress. The windsurfer self rescued and got safely to shore : SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR and 4 North Shore Rescue members responded to BCAS request for assistance with a 34 year old male with a bee sting. The subject was rescued successfully and brought to an awaiting BC Ambulance : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE Naramata and Penticton Marine Rescue responded to a RCMP request regarding 2 girls that drifted away from Naramata Beach on their flotation devices. Subjects were located at the marina and the rescue was stood down Penticton Fire and Okanagan Marine Rescue responded to a RCMP report that four people are potentially drowning on Skaha Lake. All four subjects were rescued safely by fire rescue via boat Lake Country Marine Rescue responded to a report of 2 sinking boats with people in them. One person was rescued when their boat sank. It was dragged to shore by Marine Rescue SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue a female with an ankle injury on Elk Mountain. The subject was escorted out of the area by SAR. SEA LAND Golden SAR responded to locate four missing people from Kinbasket Lake. The subjects were located safe in town and SAR stood down SEA SEA New Denver Marine Rescue members responded to rescue a boater in distress on Slocan Lake. Marine Rescue rescued three boaters in distress and brought them safely back to shore Revelstoke SAR members responded to rescue three stranded boaters in the Columbia River,south of Revelstoke. The subjects were rescued by SAR and brought to shore. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate two lost hikers up the Grouse Grind. The hikers made their way off the Grouse Grind to safety and SAR was stood down ELT ELT - 5

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT July 17-23, 2017 BODY RECOVERY On 18 July 2017, Penticton SAR responded to assist with a body recovery from 3 Mile Beach in Naramata. The SAR team was stood down when Penticton fire boat was able to access the area from the water. On 19 July 2017, Central Okanagan SAR responded to assist with a body recovery on Abbott Beach in Kelowna. MISCELLANEOUS On 19 July 2017, a task number was generated by Emergency Social Services to set up a reception centre to register evacuees of an apartment complex in Burnaby due to electrical issues that occurred as a result of flooding. On 20 July 2017, a task number was generated to provide coverage to residents displaced in Kaslo after a storm knocked down power lines that landed on their house. On 23 July 2017, a task number was issued for Terrace SAR to respond for a potential dumped body up a forest service road in Terrace. The SAR team responded and discovered the bag was empty. ENVIRONMENT On 19 July 2017, a task number was issued to the East Kootenay Regional District for their response to a large log jam, due to spring flooding on the Elk River in Fernie. INTERFACE FIRE On 18 July 2017, a task number was generated by the SWE PREOC to support response efforts related to wildland interface fires for the INAC 2017 fire season in the SWE. On 18 July 2017, a task number was generated by Emergency Social Services to set up an EOC in Quesnel to process evacuees coming from other communities affected by wildland interface fires in the province. On 18 July 2017, a task number was generated to set up a Reception Centre in Lillooet to process evacuees coming from other communities affected by wildland interface fires in the province. On 18 July 2017 an incident was generated in response to a wildland interface fire burning near Klukus Lake which resulted in an evacuation alert being issued by the Cariboo Regional District. On 18 July 2017, an incident was generated in response to a wildland interface fire burning near the Nazko area which resulted in an evacuation alert being issued by the Cariboo Regional District.

7 On 19 July 2017, a task number was generated to open an EOC in Dawson Creek to process evacuees coming from other communities affected by wildland interface fires in the province. On 20 July 2017, a incident was generated in response to a brush fire burning in Lillooet which resulted in evacuations of residents in the area. On 20 July 2017, an incident was generated by the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District in response to wildland interface fire K51211 burning in the Penticton area. On 20 July 2017, an incident was generated to open an EOC in Chetwynd to process evacuees coming from other communities affected by wildland interface fires in the province. On 22 July 2017, an incident was generated by Columbia Shuswap Regional District in response to a wildland interface fire K31239 burning near the Saint Ives area area.
