2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 8 OCT 18 TO 14 OCT 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 08 11: : : : : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue a person on the Vedder Mountain Trail. The subject was picked up and passed to BCAS for transport to the hospital. CTL INLAND WATER 2 2 Nicola Valley SAR members responded following reports of an overturned boat on the Thompson River. The SAR team was stood down while mustering when it was ascertained that there was no one with the boat. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue and 8 Lions Bay SAR members responded to search for a missing hiker on Crown Mountain. The subject was located in good condition. NEA LAND Fort Nelson SAR member responded to search for an overdue canoeist. RCMP stood down SAR as the subject self rescued. NEA LAND South Cariboo SAR members responded to search for a missing hiker in the 100 Mile House area. The subject was located in good condition and was returned to their family. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to rescue an injured dirt biker off the Trent River Mainline. The subject suffered a lower leg fracture and was passed to BCAS for transport to the hospital. SWE LAND Pemberton and 2 Whistler SAR members responded to rescue an injured mountain biker on an unsanctioned trail in the Pemberton area. The subject was transported by Air Ambulance to the hospital SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to locate a missing minor in Squamish. The subject was located safe and sound by the RCMP. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a lost and injured hiker on Mt Seymour in North Vancouver. The subject self rescued and was passed off to BCAS. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to assist a disoriented subject wandering around the Garibaldi Park area between Helm Creek and Taylor Meadows, by Whistler. The subject refused assistance when located by SAR. VIR LAND Ladysmith SAR members responded to search for two lost hikers at Stocking Lake. SAR was stood down before attending as the subjects made their own way out. CTL LAND Oliver SAR members responded to a SPOT Beacon activation West of Mt. Baldy. SAR was stood down because BCAS was able to pick up the subjects. VIR LAND Ladysmith SAR members responded to locate a missing senior with Alzheimer's in the Ladysmith area. SAR was stood down when the subject was located by a neighbour walking around the block.

3 12 19: : : : : : UPDATE : : : : : : VIR LAND Ladysmith SAR members responded to locate a missing adult and child around Stocking Lake in Ladysmith. SAR was stood down when RCMP were able to locate the subjects. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members assisted with two distressed mountain climbers on the Angels Crest Trail in Squamish. SAR was stood down when the subjects self rescued. SEA LAND Castlegar SAR members and 1 Grand Forks SAR member responded to rescue an injured ATV rider on the Western Canadian Rail Trail. The subject was transferred to the Air Ambulance and flown to the hospital. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue an injured female that fell 10 feet at Lynns Creek. The subject was successfully transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND Mission and 8 Kent Harrison SAR members responded to rescue a male trapped on a ledge at the lower end of a mountain, in Agassiz. The subject was successfully rescued by SAR. SWE INLAND WATER 26 6 Hope SAR, 13 Chilliwack SAR and 7 Kent Harrison SAR members were re-activated to continue the search that was started back in July 2018, for a missing female on the Fraser River near Hope. SAR conducted an extensive search of the river using boats but the subject was not located. SAR was stood down by the RCMP. SWE LAND Kent Harrison SAR members responded to search for a lost hiker in Sasquatch Provincial Park. The subject was located in good condition. CTL INLAND WATER SAR members of Kamloops SAR and 1 from Nicola Valley responded to locate an overdue kayaker last seen on the Thompson River. SAR was stood down when the subject made it to safety on their own. CTL LAND Penticton SAR members responded to search for 4 overdue quad riders up the McLennan Road, north of Summerland. SAR made contact with the subjects all of whom managed to safely make their own way out. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded following a spot beacon activation involving 2 people, one of which was injured, in the area of Lake Lovely Water. The subjects were rescued by SAR via helicopter and were brought out and transferred to BCAS. VIR LAND Alberni Valley SAR members responded to search for 2 hikers thought to be missing, after a dog and 2 backpacks were found on the Mt Arrowsmith summit. SAR stood down shortly after activation, when the subjects were located unharmed. SEA LAND Castlegar SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker located up a mountain in the Thrums area. The subject was located, brought out and turned over to BCAS. SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR and 3 North Shore Rescue members responded to search for 2 missing hikers

4 14 23: WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE on Unnecessary Mountain Trail. SAR located and escorted both of the subjects to safety. VIR LAND Approximately 40 SAR members from Arrowsmith, Comox Valley, Cowichan, Westcoast Inland, Ladysmith, Alberni Valley Rescue Squad and Nanaimo responded to search for a missing 12 year old boy, in Coombs. The subject was located, cold but otherwise in good condition ELT ELT - 19

5 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT October 8 14, 2018 DANGEROUS GOODS On 9 Oct 2018, a 30m section of a 91cm (36 ) Enbridge natural gas pipeline was severely compromised by fire near the communities of the Lheidli T enneh First Nation and Shelley, 21km northeast of Prince George. Approximately 100 residents of the Lheidli T enneh First Nation were evacuated to P.G. The incident was raised to Code 2 (urgent status) by the Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO). A second, adjacent gas pipeline and an oil pipeline were shut-in and depressurized as a precaution. The 30 pipeline was brought back into service to restore some of the gas supply to downstream users. No physical injuries were reported. On 9 Oct 2018, a barge containing depolluted, end-of-life vehicles and appliances caught fire on the Fraser River in Surrey, near the Pattullo Bridge. The incident was raised to Code 2 (urgent status) by the MOE RO. The fire began at approximately 17:00 and was extinguished as of 22:30. Water sampling was conducted to determine if deleterious material had entered the environment. On 9 Oct 2018, Sofino Foods in Abbotsford experienced a 2500 lb ammonia release. A quick evacuation of the employees and first responders were successful in preventing any injuries. The incident was raised to Code 2 (urgent status) by the MOE RO. Crews were able to cap the broken valve and ventilate the facility to return ammonia readings to safe levels. On 9 Oct 2018, a pump station run by the City of Kitimat became clogged, causing a subsequent overflow into Hirsh Creek. On 10 Oct 2018, the incident was upgraded to a Code 2 (urgent status) when it was determined that Hirsh Creek flows to the Kitimat River where there are drinking water intakes. MISCELLANEOUS On 09 Oct 2018, the NEA PREOC activated to a level 2 in support of evacuees from the natural gas pipeline fire in the Prince George area. On 10 Oct 2018, the SWE PREOC activated to support local authorities and First Nations with regards to potential downstream consequences resulting from gas supply disruptions, due to the pipeline fire in the Prince George area. On 10 Oct 2018, a task number was requested to support 100 evacuees from the Lheidli T enneh Reserve due to the natural gas pipeline fire in the Prince George area. On 13 Oct 2018, a task number was requested by Shirley Fire to rescue a dog at an abandoned power station. ENVIROMENTALS On 09 Oct 2018, Fort St John activated their EOC to Level 1 in response to the landslide in the Peace River Regional District on 30 September
