2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 1 JUN 15 TO 7 JUN 15 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 01 00: : UPDATE 01 07: : : : : : : : PEP ELT/ # PEP LOCATED REGION INCIDENT #VICTIMS VOL ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS CTL LAND Central Okanagan, 18 Penticton, 4 Oliver/Osoyoos, 3 Princeton SAR and 4 PEP Air members responded to search for a missing male, last seen leaving Naramata on the Kettle Valley Railway Trail system. RCMP stood down the search pending further investigation. VIR LAND Nanaimo, Cowichan, Ladysmith, Arrowsmith SAR members responded over several operational periods to assist the RCMP in searching an area of interest near the Bailey Studio on Rosstown Road for a subject who has been missing for several weeks. Arrowsmith, Ladysmith and Cowichan SAR all provided mutual aid at various times. After 4 days of searching, SAR was stood down pending new information from the RCMP SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR members and 2 CARDA dog handlers responded to search in the area of the North Carnes Campground for a missing 70 year old despondent male. The subject was located deceased and was recovered using HETS, he was passed to RCMP for the Coroner. SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR members responded to join the RCMP heli to do an aerial recce of Big Mouth Mountain, 100 kms north of Revelstoke, for a person missing since October No sign of the subject was found. Subsequent searches were performed on June 04 and June 06 with 9 SAR members responding. Nothing was located and SAR was stood down. NEA AIR ELT 5 5 PEP Air members responded at JRCC's request to investigate an ELT sounding in the Fort Nelson area. JRCC stood down PEP Air as they were responding, as the Buffalo aircraft was deployed. CTL LAND PEP Air, 8 Princeton SAR and 4 Oliver SAR members responded to search for a father and daughter that failed to return from a gold panning trip near Lawless Creek. The subjects walked out unharmed, the following morning. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR, 4 Logan Lake SAR, 10 Nicola Valley SAR and 13 convergent fire dept volunteers responded to search for a missing mushroom picker in the Lions Picnic Grounds in the Botanie area of Lytton. The subject was located alive and walked out on his own. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca SAR members responded to search for a male reported missing in the Port Renfrew area near Sombrio Beach. SAR located the subject, who refused any medical treatment. CTL LAND CORD SAR members responded to search for a male who went missing after a motor vehicle incident in the Lake Country area. The individual was located in good condition, other than being disoriented. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to assist BCAS with a dirt biker that had fallen off the Trent River Trestle in Royston. The subject was located

3 03 14: : : : : : : : : : : : : and transferred to BCAS. CTL LAND CORD SAR members responded to search for a missing male believed to be travelling from Peachland to Kelowna. The subject found his own way to the RCMP. VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to rescue 2 missing hikers on Pogo Mountain. RCMP located the subjects along the roadway and SAR was stood down. NWE LAND Bulkley Valley SAR members responded following a spot beacon activation in the Babine Mountains Provincial Park. The subject was passed to BCAS with a broken ankle. SWE LAND Mission SAR members responded to search for a missing female hiker in the Norrish Creek area. The hiker managed to make her way to the road and was picked up by SAR, as they were heading into the area. NWE LAND Bulkley Valley SAR members responded to rescue 2 lost hikers on the Lion Creek Trail. The subjects were located alive. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue 2 lost hikers off the Connect Trail. The subjects were located and passed to the RCMP. SWE AIR ELT Kent Harrison SAR members responded with PEP Air to investigate an ELT activation in the Agassiz region. PEP Air was stood down by JRCC as the Cormorant and RCMP helicopter were engaged in the search. The ELT was believed to be on a helicopter registered out of Lethbridge, AB and there was no known flight plan and no contact with any known control towers. After searching a number of areas, SAR was stood down pending further investigation by the JRCC and RCMP. SEA LAND Nelson SAR members responded to search for a despondent female in the 6 Mile Point area of Kootenay Lake. The subject was located with superficial wounds and was transferred to BCAS. NEA AIR ELT 2 2 PEP Air members responded to investigate an ELT sounding at a small air strip near Fort St John. The ELT was located on a small aircraft that was still in a hangar and was deactivated. CTL Shuswap Lifeboat Rescue One members responded to assist BCAS in transporting an injured party from Canoe Point to the waiting ambulance on Shuswap Lake near Sicamous. NEA North Peace SAR members responded to assist RCMP with rescuing occupants of a capsized boat on Inga Lake. RCMP recovered two subjects from the lake in good health and SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Chilliwack, 3 Hope, 1 Ridge Meadows, 5 Mission, 6 CFV and 1 Kent Harrison SAR members responded to search for a lost hiker at Lindeman Lake. The subject was found deceased and was turned over to the Coroner. SEA Rossland and 1 South Columbia SAR members responded to rescue a man that had jumped into the Columbia River from the Old Trail Bridge. SAR was stood down shortly after call out, as it appeared the

4 05 18: : : : : : : : : : : : : man had not jumped and had been taken into RCMP custody. CTL LAND CORD SAR members responded to locate a despondent teenager in Kelowna. SAR members were stood down when the subject was located unharmed at a friends home. NEA Mackenzie SAR and 9 PEP Air members responded to search for an overdue kayaker who had missed a scheduled check in, on the Finlay River between Thutade Lake and Fort Ware, BC. The kayaker was located in good condition, and was unaware that he was the subject of a search. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to search for 2 missing youths from the Garbage Patch Trail in the Cumberland area. Both subjects were located unharmed, but cold and tired. They were escorted out by the RCMP canine team. VIR LAND Metchosin SAR members responded to search for a despondent male in the Beacon Hill Park area of Victoria. SAR was stood down when the subject was reported to have been seen in another area of town. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a despondent male missing in Lynn Canyon, North Vancouver. The subject was located alive but very weak. HETS was used to bring the subject out to BCAS. SWE AIR ELT 1 1 PEP Air member was preparing to respond to JRCC request to investigate an ELT sounding in the Langley area when they were stood down by JRCC. NEA LAND Mackenzie SAR members responded to the Finlay FSR to search for an overdue hunter. The subject was located safe in town and SAR was stood down. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to the Bowron River Bridge and Hagen Creek to rescue an injured quad rider. The subject was located with a broken femur and was transported directly to the hospital via the SAR helicopter. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate a missing person suffering dementia in the Deep Cove area. The subject was located and passed to BCAS for assessment. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to rescue an injured female ATV rider who went over an embankment on the Comox Lake Mainline. Two injured people were located and handed over to BCAS for transport to the hospital. CTL LAND Barriere SAR members responded to search for the occupant of a vehicle after a motor vehicle accident in the area of the Sergeant Creek FSR. SAR was stood down after the subject was found alive and well at another location. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker from the Upper Joffre Lake Trail. The subject was located with an broken ankle and a dislocated shoulder and was flown directly to Whistler Medical Clinic by helicopter. SWE LAND Hope SAR members responded to rescue an injured quad rider in the Sunshine Valley. The

5 06 19: : : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE CTL subject was located alive with severe injuries and SAR assisted BCAS with loading the subject into the Air Ambulance Shuswap Rescue One members responded to assist BCAS with a male suffering from seizures at Neilson Beach on Shuswap Lake. The subject was dehydrated and elected to stay at the scene. SEA LAND South Columbia, Kimberley and Cranbrook SAR members responded to a vehicle roll over at the Findlay and Skookumchuck FSR to perform a rope rescue. 3 subjects were retrieved and passed to BCAS. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to search for a lost hiker east of the Sky Pilot Trail in Squamish. SAR made verbal contact with the subject who was met by the SAR team at the top of the Gondola. SWE LAND Coquitlam SAR members responded to rescue a man who collapsed on the Lakeshore Trail near Buntzen Lake. The subject was located in good shape and was transferred to BCAS. The subject had fainted and walked himself out after resting and cooling down. SAR picked him up near the south pump house on Buntzen Lake. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR and 3 Merritt SAR members responded to search for an elderly man with heart problems missing from a campsite since the previous night. The subject was located walking down a forestry road after attempting to walk back to Merritt during the night. CTL LAND Penticton SAR members responded to rescue a fallen climber on the Skaha Bluffs climbing wall. The subject was recovered and brought out via helicopter and was passed to BCAS for transport to the hospital. SEA SEA 4 4 Arrow Lakes SAR members responded following reports of a vessel that ran aground with nobody on board and the motor still running. A shoreline and offshore search was performed but nothing was located. SAR towed subject vessel to the dock for further RCMP investigation. 2 1 Castlegar and 1 South Columbia SAR members were tasked following a report of a person flailing in the water near 3rd Ave in Castlegar. SAR was stood down while mustering, as the subject was found to be children at play. CTL LAND 9 9 CORD SAR Rope Rescue members responded to assist at the scene of a motor vehicle incident on Hydraulic Lake Road. SAR was stood down while mustering as BCAS was able to access the subjects. VIR LAND Port Alberni SAR member responded following a call received by police from a teenager who was lost in the area of the Hole in the Wall Hiking Trail in Port Alberni. RCMP located the subject and SAR was stood down ELT ELT - 9

7 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT 1-7 JUNE 2015 BODY RECOVERY On 01 Jun 15, Sunshine Coast SAR was called out on behalf of the Coroner to recover a body from Roberts Creek. On 03 Jun 15, Fort Nelson SAR assisted the Coroner with the recovery of 2 people who died as the result of a plane crash in the Bucking Horse River area. On 08 Jun 15, Coquitlam SAR conducted a body recovery of a person trapped underneath a capsized vessel in the Pitt river.
