2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 3 SEP 18 TO 9 SEP 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 02 17: UPDATE 03 09: : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to assist in finding a missing person last seen at their residence in Prince George. Nothing was located and SAR stood down pending further RCMP information. NWE LAND Kitimat SAR members responded to an RCMP request for a male stuck on an ATV trail. The subject was brought to safety and turned over to a friend following BCAS assessment. CTL LAND Penticton SAR, 12 BC Cave Rescue, 1 Oliver SAR, and 8 PEP AIR members responded to rescue an injured hiker that fell into a cave at the Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park. The patient was recovered from the cave and handed off to BCAS. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR members responded to rescue an injured ATV rider near Rosen Lake. One patient was located and airlifted out to the hospital by STARS, and another was located deceased and recovered and handed off to the Coroner. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to a BCAS request for assistance with a 50 y/o male that suffered a 10 meter fall near Crown Mountain. The SAR team was stood down as 442 Squadron was called in to conduct the rescue. SWE AIR ELT 2 2 PEP Air - SWE members responded to an ELT sounding at Boundary Bay Airport near Delta. The ELT was located in an aircraft in a hangar and silenced. SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR member responded to an injured mountain biker on Frisbee Ridge Bike Trail, near Revelstoke. The injured mountain biker contracted their own helicopter to perform the rescue, therefore SAR and BCAS stood down. CTL INLAND Naramata, 4 Penticton and 1 Summerland Marine Rescue member responded to an RCMP request for assistance with a drowning subject on Okanagan Lake. The subject was able to self rescue and responding agencies stood down. SWE LAND Kent/Harrison SAR members responded to a BCAS request for assistance with a 72 Y/O male suffering a heart attack on Long Island. The subject succumbed to the heart attack by the time the SAR team arrived, and the subject was brought out and handed off to the Coroner. SEA LAND Fernie SAR members and 1 PEP Air member responded to a missing hiker, whose vehicle was found on Kikhinena FSR. Subject was located alive and well and SAR was stood down. VIR LAND Cowichan Valley, Salt Spring Island, Nanaimo, Ladysmith, PEMO, Saanich and Juan de Fuca SAR members responded to an RCMP request to search for a missing 75 y/o male that was believed to have wandered away from a residence in the River Valley Road area of Duncan. The missing

SEA LAND Castlegar and 1 South Columbia SAR member responded to rescue an injured hiker near Kings Chair. The patient was taken by BCAS to hospital with a fractured leg. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to a missing 9 year old female in Nanaimo. The SAR team was stood down en route, after RCMP located the girl alive and well. SWE LAND Pemberton and 4 Whistler SAR members responded to an injured para glider on Mount Mackenzie near Pemberton. The patient was assisted from a tree with the help of a professional arborist and passed to BCAS for care. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to a BCAS request for assistance with a 59 y/o female hiker suffering from chest pains, 3 km from the summit of Mt Washington. The patient was brought out and handed off to BCAS at the Courtenay Air Park. VIR LAND 1 1 Juan De Fuca SAR member responded to a male who broke his ankle on the West Coast Trail. Parks Canada engaged JRCC to conduct the rescue and SAR was stood down. VIR LAND Juan De Fuca SAR members responded to a hiker with a broken ankle on Bear Beach on the Juan De Fuca Trail. The patient was located alive and passed to BCAS for care. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to an injured mountain biker near Cheakamus Lake. The patient was located alive and well by SAR, and brought out safely. CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded to a lost mountain biker in the Cougar Canyon area. Subject was found alive and well by the SAR team, and returned to her vehicle. CTL INLAND Naramata Fire Dept Marine Rescue members responded to 5 people on a speedboat in distress near sharp rocks on Okanagan Lake. Fire arrived to scene to find no injuries and everyone safe aboard the boat and stood down. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to a spot activation for a 71 year old male in the McBride area. Subject was rescued and handed over to BCAS. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to a BCAS request to locate a teenager who had trip and fell resulting in a dislocated knee in the Selma Park Road area near Sechelt. The patient was passed to BCAS for treatment. SWE LAND Squamish SAR member responded to 4 overdue hikers from Garibaldi Provincial Park. SAR was stood down prior to mustering as the subjects contacted a friend to advise they were fine and on their way out. SEA LAND Nelson SAR members responded to 2 overdue hikers in the Balfour area near Red Fish Creek. SAR was stood down when the hikers made their

SWE INLAND Kent Harrison SAR members responded to a 55 yr old male who had collapsed and was unconscious in Cascade Bay on Harrison Lake. SAR passed the patient to BCAS for transport to hospital. NWE LAND Stewart SAR members responded to a BCAS request to assist with a dehydrated male at Tsenaglode Lake. The patient was located and provided oxygen and then brought out and handed off to BCAS for treatment and transport to hospital. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to an injured mountain biker on Mt. Fromme. SAR passed incident off to Fire as subject was next to road. SEA LAND Fernie SAR responded to an RCMP request for a SPOT activation in Elk Valley near Fernie. SAR was able to reach the subjects, one suffered a laceration to his leg and was passed to BCAS for transport to hospital. VIR LAND Cowichan SAR members responded to a subject who collapsed on the Trans Canada Trail near Lake Cowichan. SAR was stood down en route after BCAS was able to reach the patient. CTL INLAND 4 4 Kelowna Fire Dept Marine Rescue members responded to possible boaters in distress at the Kelowna Yacht club where a flare had been discharged. Nothing was located and the Marine Rescue crew was stood down. VIR LAND Alberni Valley Rescue members responded to a spot beacon activation at the Great Central Lake. Team located the subjects and found one suffering from chemical burns from bear spray and brought them out to BCAS for treatment. VIR LAND Campbell River SAR members responded to an RCMP request for assistance with a missing male, last seen on the breakwater in Campbell River. The subject was not located and SAR was stood down pending further information. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to a request for assistance with a injured hiker near Cultus Lake Golf Course. Patient was carried out and handed off to BCAS. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to an request for assistance with 3 overdue hikers at Tetrahedron Provincial Park. SAR was stood down when the hikers checked in to say that they would be late. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to a request for assistance with a injured trail race runner. SAR assisted the subject who declined ambulance assistance. CTL LAND Shuswap SAR members responded to request for assistance with an injured hiker at Syphon Falls. SAR packaged, stabilized and transported patient to BCAS. VIR LAND Arrowsmith and 1 Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to a vehicle over an

INLAND Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to an RCMP request to locate 3 overdue boaters on Pitt Lake. SAR was stood down en route when the concerned party heard back from the subjects, who advised they were safe and not in need of assistance ELT ELT - 18

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Sept 03 Sept BODY RECOVERY On 3 Sept, Cranbrook SAR responded to a request from the RCMP to recover a body in the Galloway area. DANGEROUS GOODS On 8 Sept, a barge reported to have 17,000 litres of gasoline and 6 to 7,000 litres of diesel on board, went adrift in Skidegate Inlet near Jewell Island, Haida Gwaii and eventually went hard aground at the east end of Lina Island, Bear Skin Bay. The incident was raised to Code 2 (urgent status) by the Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) due to the potential for environmental concerns should any hydrocarbons be released prior to the contents being off loaded and barge refloated and towed at high tide. INTERFACE FIRES On 04 Sept, an incident was open for a reception center in the Bulkley Nechako Regional District to facilitate and lodge residents affected by evacuation orders from several neighboring communities. MISCELLANEOUS On 7 Sept, Cranbrook SAR responded to help rescue a dog down a ledge in Mayook, near Cranbrook. On 8 Sept, the Emergency Program Coordinator for Queen Charlotte s opened their Emergency Operations Centre in response to the barge that went aground in Skidegate Inlet.
