2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 22 JUN 15 TO 28 JUN 15 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 22 00: : : : : : : : : : PEP ELT/ # PEP LOCATED REGION INCIDENT #VICTIMS VOL ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS SEA LAND Nelson SAR member responded to an RCMP request to search for two males in the Balfour area. The subjects were found by their mother within an hour of the search being initiated and SAR were stood down. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue a hiker with an ankle injury from the Mount Seymour area. The patient was transferred to BCAS for medical treatment by SAR members. SWE LAND 5 5 Hope SAR members responded as requested by RCMP for potential rescue after learning a plane landing in the area was in danger of crash landing on the Coquitlam Highway. SAR were stood down after the plane landed safely at Hope Airport. NWE LAND Atlin SAR member responded to search for an overdue hiker south of Atlin. SAR was stood down after receiving information that the hiker was not missing. LAND Logan Lake SAR members responded to search for an elderly man who had activated his SPOT beacon after his ATV broke down riding about 30 km outside of Logan Lake. The subject was located and escorted out by SAR members Vernon SAR members responded to rescue occupants in a boat stranded on Lake Okanagan. On arrival the SAR team learned the boat was towed to shore by another vessel. SWE LAND Surrey SAR members responded to an RCMP request to search for an 52 year old female Alzheimer's patient missing from the Guildford Town Centre. After exhausting the potential leads SAR was stood down pending further investigation results of the RCMP LAND Over one week PEP Air and countless SAR volunteers from Central Okanagan Regional District (CORD), Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Oliver/Osoyoos, Nicola Valley, Nelson, Penticton, Princeton, Prince George, Ridge Meadows, Squamish, Surrey, South Columbia, Kamloops, Keremeos provided a significant effort to search for two over due hikers who left from Cathedral Lakes Lodge for a day hike. The subjects after observing Search and Rescue in the area followed them back to the lodge after spending days in a shelter near a source of water and resourcefully managing their limited food rations. VIR LAND Alberni Rescue Squad members responded to an RCMP request for assistance reaching 4 people stuck in the Henry Lake area. All 4 people were located safely by the SAR team. SWE Mission SAR members were requested by RCMP to search for two people stranded on an island in the Fraser River. It was determined that there was only one subject who was passed to BCAS in good condition.

3 24 04: : : : : : : UPDATE 25 09: : : : : LAND CORD SAR member responded to rescue an injured subject that fell off a cliff side in West Kelowna. SAR were stood down after it was learned Fire and BCAS were able to recover the patient without SAR assistance. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to rescue a male with an ankle injury in Mt Robson Provincial Park on Berg Lake Trail. SAR located the patient who was transferred to BCAS for medical attention. SEA LAND Fernie SAR members were stood down during their response to search for a missing male in a cave off Hartley Creek Road when subject walked out on his own. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded as requested by BCAS to rescue an injured quad rider near the Tabor Lake Gravel Pit. SAR were stood down by BCAS after it was learned a family member went up and rescued the subjects themselves. NWE NEA 4 4 Lake Country Marine Rescue members responded to investigate distress calls from an overturned sailboat on Wood Lake. Upon arrival the boat had been uprighted by other boaters and the occupants safe Terrace SAR members responded to rescue 2 subjects from the Kalum River after their boat flipped. The two subjects and their dog were successfully recovered alive from the river by SAR After standing down SAR and allowing time for water levels to drop the police located the deceased occupant of the vehicle in the Quesnel River CORD and 7 Vernon SAR members responded to assist the RCMP search for a female missing from a care facility since the day before in Lake Country. The patient was located by the SAR team on a road near the golf course and treated for dehydration and sunburn. NEA LAND Tumbler Ridge SAR members responded to BCAS request to rescue a hiker reported to have issues breathing and a possible allergy issue down from the Quality Creek trail outside of Tumbler Ridge. SAR with assistance from Tumbler Ridge Fire Department brought the patient to the trail head where the patient was passed to BCAS for treatment. SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to assist RCMP with a lost hiker between Horseshoe Bay and Lions Bay. The hiker had been out since 0900, was disorientated, and had been separated from their hiking partner for approximately 2 hours. During the initial stages of the search the subject was able to orientate himself and found his own way out. SWE LAND Hope SAR members responded to rescue a male that had fallen over an embankment in the Boston Bar area near the Nugget Cafe. SAR was stood down after learning the subject managed to climb up embankment on his own. SWE LAND members of Pemberton SAR responded as requested by RCMP to search for a downed para

4 26 19: : : : : : : : : : glider in the Pemberton Meadows area. SAR members located the subject, who was ambulatory and hiked out him. SWE LAND Surrey SAR members responded as requested by RCMP to search for a missing male with a Project Life Saver Tracker in the Burnaby area. SAR members tracked the subject back to his house after he had returned home. SWE Chilliwack and 12 Mission SAR members responded to investigate report of a male subject, suspected to be intoxicated, who fell in the Fraser River. RCMP later stood down SAR after nothing was found. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to an RCMP request to search for hiker potentially injured in the area of the Comox Glacier. The hiker made it part way out and to his vehicle before finding himself behind a locked gate. The SAR team responded and further assisted the hiker out of the area. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR and 5 Cumberland Fire Department members responded to rescue a male mountain biker reported to be in cardiac arrest near Allen Lake in the Cumberland area. The male was passed over to BCAS and airlifted to a major hospital. VIR LAND Arrowsmith SAR members responded as requested by RCMP to search for a young female reported missing in the Columbia Beach area north of Parksville. The subject was located by RCMP and the SAR team stood down. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded as requested by BCAS to rescue a 12 year old male with head and stomach injuries sustained in a mountain bike crash on the Half Nelson Trail in the Garibaldi area. The subject was packaged and transported on a stretcher by SAR to an awaiting ambulance. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist BCAS rescue a 42 year old with severe chest pains from up a forest service road near Darling Lake. SAR located, packaged and transported the patient before making the transfer to BCAS for medical treatment. NWE NEA SEA Bulkley Valley SAR members responded to search for three overdue boaters on the Stikine River in the Telegraph Creek area. The SAR team was stood down while responding when another jet boat made contact with the overdue boaters who were having engine trouble members of 100 Mile House SAR were cancelled while en route to search for two overdue kayakers on Bridge Creek. RCMP learned the kayakers were located safe prior to the arrival of SAR Columbia Valley and 2 Kimberley SAR members responded as requested by BCAS for a possible drowning in the Columbia Lake area near Fairmont Hot Springs. The individual was located deceased in 10' of water by the local Fire Rescue group and the body was recovered by the RCMP Dive Team 28 12:12 SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded as requested

5 by BCAS to rescue a dehydrated male from up the Howe Sound Crest Trail. Subject was brought out and turned over to BCAS by SAR : : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded as requested by RCMP to search for two overdue climbers on Mt. Slesse. Climbers were located and brought out to their vehicle by SAR Vernon SAR members responded to search for two hikers near Cosens Bay in Kalamalka Park. One subject was reported deceased somewhere in Cosens Bay and the other missing. SAR was stood down pending the results of a police investigation. LAND members of Salmon Arm, Penticton and Revelstoke SAR responded as requested by BCAS to rescue an injured hang glider pilot south of Sicamous. SAR was stood down when Sicamous Road Rescue were able to recover the patient without the assistance of SAR. 3 3 members of Kelowna Fire Marine Rescue responded to investigate report of an overturned kayak on Okanagan Lake. On scene it was determined the kayak had probably just been adrift. LAND members of Central Okanagan and Penticton SAR responded as requested by BCAS to rescue a person suffering from heat stroke at the top of Little White Mountain. The patient was rescued by HETS and transferred to BCAS for medical treatment members of Peachland Marine Rescue responded as requested by BCAS to investigate reports of a sinking boat on Okanagan Lake. One boat was found with mechanical problems and en route back a second boat was found on the rocks. 3 3 Kelowna Fire Marine Rescue members responded as requested by RCMP to investigate report of a houseboat in distress on Okanagan Lake. Nothing was located and they were stood down. SEA LAND ## Revelstoke SAR responded to an RCMP request to search for a 57 year old female missing for 48 hours in the Revelstoke area. ONGOING ELT ELT Oliver/Osoyoos SAR members responded to an RCMP request to search for a missing male that may have fallen off his Sea-Doo at Osoyoos Lake. ONGOING

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT JUNE 2015 DANGEROUS GOODS On 25 June 15, a significant fire at Mansonville Plastic Factory in Surrey resulted in affecting the environment (land, water and air) from a spill of liquid plastics and hazardous smoke. The Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to Code 2 (Urgent Status). Local fire, police, ambulance, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, Environment Canada, DFO, the Ministry of Environment, and the City of Surrey provided a coordinated response to deal with impacts of the incident. OTHER On 27 June 15, The Nanaimo Fire Department provided assistance to BCAS paramedics with an injured female outside their jurisdiction. EVIDENCE SEARCH On 27 June 15, Terrace SAR provided assistance with an evidence search as requested by RCMP in the Lakelse area. ENVIRONMENT On 26 June 15, the EKRD (East Kootenay Regional District) and FLNRO responded to investigate reports of a landslide between Elkford and Sparwood impacting the Elk River by arranging an overflight to assess consequences and potential impacts. The over flight identified the potential source at Hartley Lake and identified impacted roads and culverts resulting in notifications to Ministry of Transportation. INTERFACE FIRE On 23 June 15, The North Okanagan Regional District activated an EOC to deal with a fire burning in Kalamalka Park at Turtle Point potentially affecting 350 homes. The Rank 1 - Rank 2 fire was brought down and turned over to Wildfire Management Branch. Fire Report (K40155) On 28 June 2015, FLNRO and the Kootenay/Boundary Regional District EPC issued an evacuation alert for 3 residences in the Boundary Fire Zone due to an interface fire (N60163) burning 11km north of Rock Creek. On 28 June 2015, WMB and Northern Rockies Regional Municipality issued an evacuation alert for a Pennwest Oil & Gas camp 115 km NE of Fort Nelson.
