2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 18 MAY 15 TO 24 MAY 15 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # : : : UPDATE 18 14: : UPDATE 18 17: : : : : : PEP REGION INCIDENT ELT/ # PEP #VICTIMS LOCATED VOL ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to rescue boaters on Goose Island in Pitt Lake after their vessel sank. The SAR team successfully assisted the boaters to shore. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker on the Gibraltar Trail in Paul Lake Provincial Park. SAR located the subject in stable condition and assisted them out for hand-over to BCAS. LAND Coquitlam SAR member was stood down while mustering to assist the RCMP in locating a missing Alzheimer's patient that wandered away from his residence. RCMP located the subject prior to SAR responding. NWE Nechako Valley SAR members were called out by the RCMP to recover the body of an individual missing in the Nautley River since 05 Apr. The subject was recovered and turned over to the Coroner. LAND member of North Shore Rescue responded to assist an injured mountain biker on Fromme Mountain. SAR was stood down when incident was handled by the West Vancouver Fire Dept Hope and 7 Chilliwack SAR members responded following a report of an individual floating in the river south of Hell's Gate. On arrival, it was found that it was actually the body of a dog and the SAR teams were stood down. LAND members of Ridge Meadows SAR responded to search for a missing woman and her injured dog in Golden Ears Provincial Park. The female was located by the SAR team and was assisted out to the trail head. VIR LAND Campbell River SAR members responded to search for two lost hikers on the NW head of the Ripple Rock Trail in Menzies Bay. The SAR team located the subject with assistance from RCMP Air 8. LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to assist with an injured motorcyclist on the Half Moon Carlson FSR by Carlson Lake. The team was en route when they were stood down as BCAS was able to access the subject. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to search for a missing 44 year old male in the Departure Bay area of Nanaimo. The team was stood down after the subject returned home on his own. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR members responded to search for a missing person along the South Thompson River in Kamloops. An extensive search of the area was conducted but failed to locate any sign of the subject and the RCMP stood down the search pending new information. LAND Ridge Meadows SAR member responded to assist lost hikers in Golden Ears Park. The hikers called

VIR LAND West Coast Inland SAR, with assistance of 15 Alberni Rescue Squad and 15 Arrowsmith SAR members responded to search for an overdue couple in the Tofino area. Mutual aid was stood down when the Coast Guard received a call from the subjects who provided their location on a marine radio. The subjects were successfully located and brought out of the area and passed to BCAS for assessment. CTL Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to investigate an overturned boat near 114 Lake Ave, Kelowna. The rescue team stood down after arriving on scene to find the subjects had been assisted to shore by other boaters. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to a West Vancouver Police request for a male that had been hit by a boulder on the Howe Sound Crest Trail. The 2 subjects were picked up by helicopter and transported out of the area and delivered to BCAS for assessment and transport Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to rescue an individual that had gone to recover his sunken boat on Pitt Lake near Goose Island. The subject was rescued and both he and his boat were brought to the boat launch by SAR. SEA LAND members of Cranbrook SAR responded to an ATV accident on the Moss Creek Forest Service Road. The subject was rescued and brought out by others and the SAR team was stood down by BCAS. LAND Lions Bay SAR members were called to potentially assist with the rescue of an injured man down an embankment near Appodaca Park on Bowen Island. SAR were stood down while assembled at the hall, when BCAS responded by boat with Police and Fire services and were able to access the patient without SAR assistance. CTL AIR ELT 11 On the 09 May, 11 PEP Air members were on a training exercise in Abbotsford when they were redirected by JRCC to respond and investigate an ELT that was sounding in Penticton area until they were stood down by JRCC. NEA Quesnel SAR members responded to rescue a male in the Fraser River. Quesnel SAR were stood down shortly after, by RCMP, who advised the male had been recovered alive. LAND Central Fraser Valley SAR members responded to search for a missing 16 year old female student that was hiking with a group on the Abby Grind. The student was located by a search team on another trail. LAND Squamish SAR member responded to search for a missing hiker that had become separated from her group mid-way up The Chief Trail. SAR was stood down while mustering, when RCMP reported the group had located the missing hiker. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for a missing female hiker in the Mount Thom area. RCMP later located the missing female at a friends

4 22 11: : : : : : : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL house and the SAR team was stood down. LAND Squamish SAR members assisted BCAS with an injured climber that had fallen on The Chief. The climber was located alive and was passed off to BCAS and transported to Vancouver General Hospital Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue an injured female from the Mount Thom area. The subject was located alive and transferred to BCAS for transport to the hospital. CTL LAND Princeton SAR members responded to rescue an injured ATV rider from a trail between Tulameen and Coalmont. SAR was stood down while en route when BCAS managed to access the patient without SAR assistance. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for two missing ATV riders on the Tamihi FSR. The subjects were located uninjured and were escorted out by SAR members. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR and 11 South Cariboo SAR members were called out to assist possible victims impacted by a flash flood in Cache Creek No one required rescue and the SAR teams were stood down. CTL CTL Peachland Fire Rescue members responded to assist boaters in distress on Okanagan Lake. All subjects were located and brought to shore safely members of Penticton Fire and Naramata Fire Rescue responded to investigate a drifting white dingy on Okanagan Lake. Both teams did extensive patrols and located nothing. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for an elderly female missing from Tempe Glen Drive in North Vancouver. The subject was located by a family friend driving the neighbourhood. CTL LAND members of Kamloops SAR responded to search the Barriere area, for a family that failed to return from a camping trip as expected. The family was located alive and well. They had experienced car trouble and were out of cell range. LAND member of North Shore Rescue responded to search for a lost hiker in the Seymour Forest. The subject was located and brought out by Metro Vancouver Staff and SAR was stood down. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue an injured hiker on the Howe Sound Trail. The subject was airlifted out and handed over to BCAS. NWE LAND Archipelago SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker on the Anvil Trail near Tlell. The subject was brought out and turned over to BCAS. LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to search for a missing female hiker on the Lions Bay Trail. The subject was located alive and well Mission SAR members responded to Stave Lake to assist 4 stranded boaters. All four subjects were rescued successfully and brought back to the dock ELT - 1

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT MAY 2015 EVIDENCE SEARCH On 20 May 15, Revelstoke SAR conducted an evidence search in the Goldstream River area at the request of the RCMP. FLOOD On 23 May 15, a task was issued for a flash flood that occurred when a sudden 2 foot rise and drop of Cache Creek, Lopas Creek and Bonaparte River affected the areas of Valley View, Old Cariboo Road and Stage Road. ESS advised that they processed approximately 75 residents who were moved from their homes. The NEA PREOC (on behalf of CTL PREOC) held a coordination call between the municipality of Cache Creek, the Thompson Nicola Regional District and stakeholder agencies involved in the flood response. MISCELLANEOUS On 22 May 15, Fernie Fire responded to a medical rescue of an overheated child in a vehicle at the request of the RCMP. URBAN INTERFACE FIRES On 21 May 15, Prince George Fire Centre reported a fire (G90081) in the Prophet River area and an evacuation alert was issued by the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality for the Prophet River First Nations Reserve and extending areas of Klua Lake. On 21 May 15, a task was issued for the Northeast Region AANDC Fire Season On 23 May 15, Kootenay Boundary Regional District reported a fire in the Big Sheep Creek area. A State of Local Emergency was declared and 11 homes were placed on Evacuation Alert. The fire was brought under control on 24 May and the Evacuation Alert was lifted.
