2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 26 JUN 17 TO 2 JUL 17 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 26 01: : : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS VIR LAND Ladysmith and 1 Nanaimo SAR member responded to locate a missing 16 year old girl with disabilities in Ladysmith. The subject was located alive and well by RCMP. NEA LAND Prince George SAR member responded to locate a missing 16 year old male near Tsitniz Lake. The subject was located by RCMP and SAR stood down. NEA LAND Mackenzie, Fort St James and Prince George SAR members responded to locate a missing dirt biker in the Mount Morfee area. SAR located and extracted the subject by heli and returned him safely to the staging area. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue an injured cyclist on Leopard Trail near North Vancouver. SAR was stood down by local fire rescue who responded. SWE LAND Squamish SAR, North Peace SAR, Fort Nelson SAR and PEP Air members responded to locate a missing person in Squamish. SAR was stood down after the subject was located by RCMP while travelling in his vehicle. LAND COSAR members responded to locate a missing hiker in the Headwaters Lake area of Peachland. Subject was able to find her way back to the trailhead Kelowna Fire Rescue members responded to rescue 5 kids stranded on a paddle board in Lake Okanagan. The subjects were gone on fire rescue's arrival as they self rescued. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured subject on the Sea to Summit Trail. The subject was located, packaged and transferred to BCAS. NWE LAND Prince Rupert SAR and Terrace SAR members responded to locate 3 missing teenaged hikers on Mount Hayes near Prince Rupert. RCMP reported the missing hikers have been found prior to SAR mustering Kelowna Fire Department members responded to rescue a tuber in distress in the middle of Okanagan Lake between Kalamoir Park and Green Bay. The Fire Department responded to the location and were unable to locate anyone in distress in the area. LAND Shuswap SAR and Kamloops SAR responded to locate a missing male in the McGillvary Lake Road area of Chase. Subject was transported to RCMP station : SWE Kent Harrison SAR responded to locate a missing boater in the Harrison Lake area of Kent Harrison. The subject was located at 20 Mile Bay experiencing engine trouble :26 NEA LAND Central Cariboo (Road Rescue), Prince George,

3 Quesnel and South Cariboo SAR members responded to rescue riders of a horse drawn wagon that rolled over a 100 foot embankment on the Farwell Canyon Trail, south of Riske Creek, near Williams Lake. 6 subjects were rescued, 5 of those rescued sustained spinal injuries : : : : : : : : : : : VIR LAND Alberni Valley Rescue members responded to rescue a 65 year old male dirt biker who sustained an ankle injury off of the Lacy Lake Main FSR (Lookout Trail), near Port Alberni. The injured subject was packaged and transferred to BCAS. SEA LAND Castlegar SAR member and 10 Trail Fire Rescue members responded to rescue an injured quadder on the Trans Canada Trail across from Genelle. The injured patient was rescued via the Trail Fire Rescue boat and transferred over to BCAS. SWE LAND 8 8 Lions Bay SAR members responded to investigate what appeared to be someone signalling from Anvil Island with a mirror. Lions Bay SAR was unable to find any definitive source. The reflection could have possibly been the sun reflecting off solar panels in the area. LAND Penticton SAR members responded to rescue an 18 year old male with an injured shoulder near Okanagan Falls. Penticton SAR was stood down as local fire crews were able to access the patient. SEA Kimberley SAR member responded to locate two missing tubers in St. Mary's Creek near Kimberly. SAR was stood down shortly after activation when the tubers were located in good condition.. VIR LAND Cowichan Valley SAR members responded to locate a lost hiker on Mount Tzouhalem in Duncan. Another hiker found the subject and they walked out together. The SAR team was subsequently stood down. VIR LAND Metchosin, 1 PEMO and 6 Juan de Fuca SAR members responded to locate a missing male with mental health issues possibly under the influence of drugs in the Highlands area. The male was not located, and the SAR teams were stood down. SEA LAND Nelson SAR member responded to locate a missing dirt biker in Ymir. RCMP located the subject alive and well, and the SAR team was subsequently stood down. VIR Arrowsmith SAR members responded to search for a missing male that had possibly jumped from the Englishman River Bridge. SAR was stood down when the RCMP located the subject safe in town Kamloops SAR members responded to an RCMP report of a female going into the Thompson River at Knox Street. After an extensive search, nothing was located and the SAR team was stood down. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca SAR and 1 Metchosin SAR member responded to rescue an injured female on the West Sombrio Trail near Port Renfrew. BCAS stood SAR down as they reached the patient Peachland Marine Unit members responded to possible boaters in distress on Okanagan Lake. A

SWE LAND Coquitlam SAR members responded to investigate a distress whistle at Dilly Dally Peak near Coquitlam. SAR discovered the source of the whistling in the woods which happened to be "birds". LAND Shuswap SAR members responded to rescue a pilot from a downed Ultralight airplane near Deep Creek Rd Enderby. The SAR team swept the surrounding area and recovered the subject who was deceased and turned over to the coroner. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue 3 missing hikers up Black Mountain in West Vancouver. The subjects were located, in good condition and rescued via HETS. VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to an overdue hiker on Lone Cone, Meares Island. Subject was located by CCG on the beach in good condition Penticton SAR members responded RCMP request to locate a female fleeing from police who had jumped into Vaseux Lake. The SAR team was stood down as police believed she swam to the opposite shore. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured subject in a group of 8 people hiking near Elsen Lake. The subject was airlifted out of the area via HETS and delivered back to Squamish for treatment of injuries. SEA LAND Kimberley and 2 Cranbrook SAR members responded to an injured hiker at Moyie Provincial Park. The subject was located deceased, upon arrival. Coroner was advised. SEA NEA Golden SAR members responded to search for a 25 year old male who jumped off a bridge on Kinbasket Lake and failed to surface. SAR stood down, pending further RCMP request. Nothing located Robson Valley SAR members responded to search for a hiker that fell into the river on the Overlander Trail at Mount Robson. The body was recovered and transferred to BCAS RCM SAR responded to rescue a female that was hit by a jet ski on Shuswap Lake. The patient was transferred to BCAS with undisclosed injuries. SWE LAND Hope SAR member responded to locate a missing female in the city limits of Hope. RCMP located the subject alive. SAR stood down. SWE Chilliwack SAR is responded to rescue 2 stranded tubers on the Vedder River in Chilliwack. The tubers were located in good condition. LAND Vernon SAR and 5 Wells Gray SAR members responded to locate 3 lost hikers on Trophy Mountain in Clearwater. The SAR team used the heli-winch to rescue the hikers, one of which was diabetic RCMSAR members responded to rescue an injured individual on Shuswap Lake. The patient

5 30 21: : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE was rescued suffering a badly broken ankle and was transported to a waiting BCAS crew for transport to Vernon Hospital. VIR LAND Alberni Valley Rescue Squad members responded to rescue two lost hikers on Mount Arrowsmith. Both subjects were rescued by the SAR team in good condition Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to rescue an unresponsive male in a boat in front of Water Street in Kelowna. The RCMP arrived on scene and noticed that the male was sleeping, rather than unresponsive, and the Marine Rescue unit was stood down Penticton and 3 Naramata Marine Rescue members responded to a boat taking on water on Okanagan Lake. 4 people were brought back to shore safe and sound Penticton Marine Rescue members responded to an RCMP request to rescue a despondent female out of Skaha Lake. Members brought subject to shore and turned her over to BCAS. VIR LAND Cowichan Valley and 1 Ladysmith SAR member along with 7 members of the Cowichan Valley Amateur Radio group responded to locate a 37 year old female last seen at 0200 leaving the Kissinger Lake Campsite. The female was observed boarding a ferry and the SAR teams were stood down. SWE LAND Hope SAR members and 12 Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue an injured female at the Baby Munday Summit. Subject was found and transferred to BCAS with a head/spinal injury. HETS was requested but not used. NEA LAND Central Cariboo SAR members responded to rescue a 68 year old female that had fallen down a 70ft embankment. The individual was handed off to BCAS Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to a report of a sinking speedboat with 7 people on board. The 7 people were rescued and their boat was towed in to a nearby marina. SEA LAND Invermere SAR responded to rescue an injured hiker on the trail to Lake of the Hanging Glacier. The subjected was extracted via helicopter and handed off to BCAS. SWE SWE Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to rescue 8 stranded boaters to safety. Subjects were successfully rescued Chilliwack SAR members responded to locate a missing boater on Harrison Lake. The boater was located and handed over to RCMP ELT ELT - 2

The SAR team rescued the patient and turned him over to BCAS. 3 3 Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to rescue a paddler in distress on Okanagan Lake. The Marine Rescue crew searched the area with no results Kamloops SAR members responded to locate a person in the South Thompson River. The deceased subject was recovered by the RCMP Dive Team SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue a 25 year old male who had a seizure on the Grouse Grind. The SAR team was stood down as the rescue was in the jurisdiction of North Vancouver Fire Rescue. SEA LAND Vernon, 9 Oliver and 6 COSAR members responded to rescue 2 hikers stranded on a cliff in Beaverdell. The SAR teams were stood down en route as the hikers were located alive and well by the RCMP. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to locate and transport a hiker with a migraine. The hiker was handed off to BCAS for treatment. SEA Fernie SAR members responded to rescue two stranded rafters from a sandbar in the Elk River. One of the rafters swam to shore and was rescued by the RCMP, the second rafter was rescued by a passing boater and brought to shore Shuswap Rescue 1 members responded to rescue a boater with in respiratory distress to Sicamous. The boater was located deceased and transported to the Coroner in Sicamous. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR members responded to rescue a 67 year old male experiencing severe leg cramps at Joffre Lakes. The subject was located in the parking lot at Joffre Lake, SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Hope SAR and 13 Chilliwack SAR members responded to locate two hikers who went across the Coquihalla River at the Othello Tunnels and were stranded on the other side. The subjects were rescued, uninjured. LAND Shuswap SAR members responded to rescue the occupant of a vehicle that went over a bank on the Seymour Arm Forest Service Road. The SAR team recovered one deceased subject and handed over to the coroner 02 19: Penticton and 5 Naramata Marine Rescue members responded to rescue 2 distressed kayakers on the Okanagan Lake. The kayakers were located in good condition and SAR was stood down : Shuswap SAR members responded to locate a

7 missing male in a lake near Sandy Point Rd. The subject was not located : SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue a male in medical distress at the Elfin Lake Shelter. The subject was rescued by SAR and passed to BCAS for medical assistance. WEEK ELT - 0 TOTAL YEAR TO DATE ELT - 2

8 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Month Jun 26 July 02, 2017 BODY RECOVERY On 01 July, there was a body floating down the Fraser River 10 miles North of Lillooet. Lillooet Rescue and Pemberton SAR responded to locate and recover the body at RCMP request. DANGEROUS GOODS On 28 June 2017, there was an explosion in the parking lot of Parkland Fuel Corp while crews were conducting a truck to truck transfer of gasoline. Fire and RCMP were on scene for most of the morning. The Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) due to the potential for pollution and due to heightened media attention. On 29 June 2017, Nanaimo Fire Department reported that they were responding due to high level readings (200 parts per million) of ammonia at the curling rink on Wall Street, in Nanaimo. The MOE RO raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) but downgraded not long after when responders confirmed that no ammonia leak had occurred. There had been a power outage that affected the whole building. On 30 June 2017, Ministry of Environment and COS (Conservation Officer Service) were made aware of a fish kill at a fish hatchery on Coast Meridian Road in Port Coquitlam. Ministry of Environment raised the incident to a Code 2 (urgent status) due to the high volume of fish killed and the damage to the fish population. On 30 June 2017, Ministry of Environment was notified of a small plane that entered Courtenay Creek near Courtenay, BC. Ministry of Environment raised the incident to a Code 2 (urgent status) due to the social media presence this incident was gathering. Incident was then immediately downgraded to Code 1. INTERFACE FIRE On 26 June an interface fire, burning near Skaha Lake (K50392) on Eastside Road towards North Okanagan Falls in the Okanagan Similkameen Regional District (OSRD), resulted in the evacuation of 2 homes. On 28 June, an incident was opened due to a grass fire that started on east side of Cawston, and ended up in Keremeos (K50434) on 27 June. ESS from the OSRD responded to provide a reception centre for the displaced occupants of eight homes. Most residents were from the Lower Similkameen Indian Band.
