2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 29 MAY 17 TO 4 JUN 17 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 29 06: : UPDATE 29 16: : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS LAND SAR members from Chilliwack, Kent Harrison and PEP Air responded to search for an overdue hang glider in the Elk Mountain area. The subject was located in good condition and escorted out and transferred to the RCMP On the 27 May, 10 Kamloops SAR members including 5 swift water rescue members responded to assist the RCMP with recovering the deceased body of the missing male from a log jam in Cache Creek. SEA LAND SAR members from Creston, Kimberley, Sparwood, Nelson, Elkford, Revelstoke, Penticton, COSAR, Columbia Valley, Cranbrook, Kaslo, Princeton, Oliver/Osoyoos, Castlegar and Rossland, along with hundreds of convergent volunteers searched for a teacher who went missing while scouting out a location for a class project, near Crawford Bay. After significant search efforts were conducted over multiple days with nothing located, the RCMP suspended the search. VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to search for a lost hiker on the trail to the mud flats in Tofino. RCMP walked the subject out and SAR was stood down Mission SAR members responded following reports of a drifting boat on the Fraser River. SAR did not find anything upon their arrival and surmised that the derelict boat may have sunk Vernon SAR members responded to assist a male and his dog stranded on a rock in the middle of BX Creek near BX Ranch Dog Park in Vernon. SAR brought the subject and his dog safely to shore Peachland Fire Rescue members responded to rescue a man off of a dock that detached from shore on Okanagan Lake. The subject was rescued and brought back to shore. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to search for a missing despondent male in the West Lake area. SAR was stood down when the RCMP advised that they had made contact with the subject. LAND Coquitlam SAR members responded to locate a missing teenaged female in the Coquitlam area. The SAR team was stood down while en route when the subject was located. SEA LAND Grand Forks SAR member responded to rescue an injured quad rider on the Morrissey Trail. SAR was stood down when RCMP advised that subject was safe at home SEA 4 4 Castlegar SAR members responded following reports of a flipped canoe on the Arrow Lakes. SAR was stood down after they searched the indicated area without finding anything.

3 01 12: : : : : : : : : : : VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to search for an elderly female last seen at the Blackrock Resort in Ucluelet. The subject was located coming from a vacant room of the resort where she had been napping after her walk. NWE LAND Burns Lake SAR members responded to rescue a potentially injured female in the area of the power lines by Chas Ave. SAR was stood down prior to responding when the subject was located at home resting comfortably. SEA LAND Fernie SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker between the 2nd and 3rd Silver Spring Lakes outside of Elko. The subject was flown by helicopter and transferred to BCAS. NEA Quesnel SAR members responded to rescue a driver that drove into the water next to the SAR training building. SAR was swift water training at the time. The subject was successfully extricated by SAR, checked out by BCAS and detained by the RCMP Shuswap Rescue 1 members responded to assist BCAS with accessing an injured female in the Shuswap Narrows. The patient was successfully transferred to BCAS. 9 9 Mission SAR members responded following reports of a capsized boat floating under the Mission Bridge in the Fraser River. SAR searched the river without locating anything and was stood down RCM-SAR member responded following a report that a vehicle was submerged in the Eagle River, off of the TCH, near 3 Valley Gap. SAR was stood down prior to mustering when they were advised that the sole occupant was on the shore. SEA LAND Golden SAR members responded to search for a group of 5 lost hikers, one of whom was injured in Blaebury near Golden. The subjects were located and the injured party was extracted and transferred to BCAS. NEA Squamish SAR members responded via helicopter to rescue an individual whose canoe capsized on the Squamish River. The Subject was wearing a life jacket and was located alive by SAR members who were able to land nearby and escort the subject to the helicopter South Peace SAR members responded to assist a teen aged boy in a 14 foot aluminium boat that got caught in some branches in Beaton Park, Fort St John. The subject was retrieved and reunited with his mom. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue an injured male dirt bike rider, who fell from his bike and was run over by an ATV, near Tamihi Creek Chilliwack. The subject was rescued via HETS and was transported to the hospital. LAND Whistler SAR members responded to assist with an injured male that sustained a femur injury while swinging off of a rope near Cheakamus West FSR, near Whistler. The subject was successfully retrieved and transferred to BCAS.

4 03 15: : : : : : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE SEA LAND Nelson SAR members responded to assist with an injured motorist down an embankment off of the Duhamel Creek FSR, north of Nelson. The subject was successfully handed over to BCAS. LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist with an injured mountain biker on the Lumberjack Trail, near Squamish. The injured mountain biker was successfully rescued Member CORD responded to search for a missing paddle boarder on Okanagan Lake near Peachland. The subject was retrieved by Peachland Marine Rescue in good condition. LAND Squamish SAR members responded to search for 2 hikers lost on trails near The Chief. Both of the subjects were located unharmed. LAND Hope SAR members responded to rescue a person suffering an allergic reaction across the Fraser River from Yale. The subject was rescued and passed to BCAS for care Mission SAR members responded to rescue 4 stranded boaters on Stave Lake. All 4 subjects were rescued and brought to shore by SAR Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to assist a capsized boater on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna. Upon arrival the crew found that the kayaker had self rescued and been checked by ambulance. VIR LAND Alberni Valley SAR members responded to rescue an injured person along the Hole in a Wall Trail near Coombs. SAR was stood down when the subject was retrieved by BCAS and Fire Rescue. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for 2 lost hikers in the White Lake area. Both subjects were located by SAR and transferred to Police. LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue an injured backcountry snowboarder, off of the Brandywine FSR near Whistler. The subject was successfully rescued by SAR. LAND Coquitlam SAR members responded to search for 3 lost hikers on Burke Mountain in the Coquitlam area. The 3 subjects were seen by SAR from the air and were subsequently escorted out by Ground SAR members. LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist an injured female climber/hiker just off of the Smoke Bluff Trail, near Squamish. The subject suffered a broken ankle and was treated, packaged up by SAR and transported out to BCAS. 2 2 Penticton swift water rescue members were called upon to assist with a vehicle in the Similkameen River, near Keremeos. RCMP decided not to send swift water members to the vehicle as it was deemed unoccupied ELT ELT - 1

5 BODY RECOVERY WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Month May 29 Jun On Jun , Kent Harrison SAR responded at the request of the Coroner to conduct a body recovery on the Fraser River. DANGEROUS GOODS On 30 May 2017, a house fire was reported in North Vancouver that involved a shed full of an unknown amount of diesel, gas and propane. The Ministry of Environment Spill Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) for notification purposes. On 30 May 2017, a motor vehicle incident resulted in a spill of diesel on Highway 3, east of Jaffray. The MOE RO raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) due to the subsequent highway closure. On 31 May 2017, a fire at the Cariboo Pulp and Paper Mill in Quesnel resulted in a release of non-condensable gases. The mill was evacuated and no one was injured. The MOE RO raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) due to the evacuation of the mill. On 31 May 2017, the BC Cancer Agency reported that a toxic drug, Mustargen, had been misplaced and perhaps improperly disposed of in Prince George. The MOE RO raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) due to the potential health threat should anyone come into contact with the toxin. EVIDENCE SEARCH On 30 May 2017, Central Fraser Valley SAR was activated by the RCMP to conduct an evidence search in the Campbell Valley Park area in Langley. FLOODING On 29 May 2017, an incident was opened for the City of Kamloops due to flooding in Riverside Park. On 29 May 2017, an incident was opened for Lower Similkameen First Nations, due to flooding near Keremeos (OSRD). On 30 May 2017, an incident was opened for flooding impacting 2 homes in Blackpool (TNRD). On 30 May 2017, an INAC task number was initiated to monitor flooding with the potential to impact First Nations in the Region. On 30 May 2017, an incident was opened for the Squamish Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) due to flooding that impacted one resident in Lillooet Lake. On 30 May 2017, a task number was issued to the PREOC in support of flood response activities throughout the region

6 On 30 May 2017, an incident was opened for flooding in Trout creek, Summerland District. On 31 May 2017, an incident was opened for the Central Kootenay Regional District (CKRD) due to flooding in Duhamel Creek, near Nelson. On 31 May 2017, an incident was opened for the Kootenay Boundary Regional Distric due to a landslide that occurred 8 kilometres north of Brown Creek Road, near Grandforks. On 31 May 2017, an incident was opened for flooding impacting a bridge in Keremeos Creek (OSRD). On 31 May 2017, an incident was opened for the Central Kootenay Regional District due to flooding that washed out Nakusp Hot Springs Road in Dinner Creek, Nakusp. On 01 Jun 2017, an incident was opened for the SLRD due to a log jam impacting a bridge at Seaton Portage, Squamish. On 01 Jun 2017, an incident was opened due to flooding that impacted homes in Osoyoos Lake, Osoyoos Indian Band. On 01 Jun 2017, an incident was opened for the Okanagan Indian Band due flooding from Okanagan Lake. On 01 Jun 2017, an incident was opened for the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) for sandbags in Savona due to flooding from Kamloops Lake. On 01 Jun 2017, flooding resulted in an evacuation order for Slocan, Slocan Valley Road West in the CKRD. On 02 Jun 2017, an incident was initiated for overland flooding in the Fraser River along Ballam Road, City of Chilliwack. On 02 Jun 2017, an incident was opened for a landslide near Putnam Creek at Silverstar Ski Resort, potential to impact Trinity Valley and Lumby, (NORD). On 02 Jun 2017, an incident was opened for flooding in the Elk River. Sandbags and a sandbag machine were moved from Cranbrook to Fernie, (EKRD) On 02 Jun 2017, an incident was open for flooding at the Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) On 03 Jun 2017, an incident was open for a landslide in Vernon which isolated 30 homes in the CSRD. 04 Jun 2017, an incident was opened for a Resort Creek overflowing its banks causing a small debris flow onto a creek bank in Sun Peaks in the TNRD. 7 On 29 May 2017, two houses were put on evacuation alert due to the Fountain Valley wildland fire (K70181) in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD). MISCELLANEOUS On 31 May 2017 a gas leak in Burnaby displaced several residents in the Gilmore Street area. The displaced residents were offered shelter in a reception centre.
