1 AN ACCREDITED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY PIO Number: Police Case Number: Event: Homicide Place of Occurrence: 1700 NW 80 th Ave Margate Date/Time of Occurrence: August 17, :35 p.m. PIO/Releasing Authority: Sergeant Lori Eller Release Date: August 17, 2013 On August 17, 2013, at 6:35 p.m. officers responded to 1700 NW 80 th Ave in reference to a suspicious incident. A male caller advised that there would be a murder suicide and hung up. Officers responded to the scene and observed a white male exit the residence and look around. The male quickly returned back into the residence and closed the door when the officers attempted to contact him. Further attempts to communicate with the male were unsuccessful. Shortly after the male entered the residence officers on scene heard what they believed to be two gunshots. The Margate Police Department Special Response Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene. Negotiators attempted to make contact with the male and were unsuccessful. Upon officer s entry to the residence, they observed the bodies of a white male in his sixties and a white female in her eighties. Both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The identities of the male and female are being held pending the notification of the next of kin. *** Update: August 18, 2013 **** The white male in this incident has been identified as Robert Halik, DOB 11/21/1954. The white female victim, has been identified as his mother, Jindra Halik, DOB 02/21/1925. Both are residents of Margate who lived in the above residence together.

PIO/Releasing Authority: Sgt. Lori Eller Release Date: June 24, 2013 On June 22, 2013, Margate Police received a third party call via 911 in reference to an adult in the back seat of a vehicle with an unresponsive 7 year old child. Preliminary information revealed that the mother was driving the vehicle when she observed that the child became unresponsive. The mother pulled off the road into the Carolina Springs Shopping Center located at 7804 W. Sample Road. Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue responded to the scene. The child was transported to Northwest Medical Center where the child was later pronounced deceased. The circumstances surrounding the child s death are still under investigation.

St. Rd 7 & NW 8 th St. Date/Time of Occurrence: Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 12:22 am Victim(s): Identities pending notification of next of kin PIO/Releasing Authority: Sergeant Efrain Suarez, (954) Investigator: Officer Amalin Guarino, CSA Thao Nguyen Release Date: May 16, 2013 On Thursday, May 16, 2013, at approximately 12:22 a.m., a traffic crash occurred at the intersection of North State Road 7 and NW 8 th St. A 2011 Toyota Sienna van was traveling northbound on North State Rd 7, when it collided with two pedestrians, who were crossing the roadway. The two pedestrians were pronounced deceased at the scene by Margate Fire Rescue. Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the van was not injured. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. 5 AN ACCREDITED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY PIO Number: Police Case Number: Event: Near Drowning Place of Occurrence: 6122 Southgate Boulevard Date/Time of Occurrence: January 29, :49 a.m. Victim(s): 16 month old female PIO/Releasing Authority: Sergeant Lori Eller Release Date: January 29, 2014 Update: January 30, 2014 Time: 8:30 a.m. By: Sergeant Lori Eller The victim of the drowning has been identified as Savita Curtis. Curtis passed away at Plantation General on January 29, On January 29, 2014, officers responded to 6122 Southgate Boulevard in reference to a 911 call regarding a possible drowning. The victim is a sixteen (16) month old female who was discovered unconscious in the family swimming pool by her mother, Samantha Rahim. When officers arrived on scene they immediately initiated CPR. Margate/Coconut Creek Fire Rescue arrived on scene and transported the child to Northwest Medical Center. The child was subsequently transported to Plantation General where she is listed in critical condition. The incident remains under investigation.

Victim(s): Parasram Nandalall PIO/Releasing Authority: Sergeant Lori Eller Investigator: Traffic Homicide Investigator Erin Young Release Date: June 17, 2013 On Saturday, June 15, 2013 at approximately 11:00 P.M., a single vehicle traffic crash occurred at the 6800 block of Royal Palm Boulevard. A black 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling Westbound on Royal Palm Boulevard. The vehicle veered off the road and became immersed in the canal. After an extensive search, utilizing Dive Teams and BSO Helicopter, the driver was not located. On June 17, 2013 at 230 A.M., the body of Parasram Nandalall surfaced and was recovered from the canal near the crash site. The cause of the traffic crash is still under investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the crash or has information pertaining to the crash is asked to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Erin Young at the Margate Police Department (954) or the Traffic Unit at (954)

State Road 7 NATURE OF INCIDENT: Drowning CASE #: VICTIM: Unknown NAME DOB ADDRESS ARRESTED: N/A N/A N/A NAME DOB ADDRESS SYNOPSIS: On 4/20/13, at approximately 1416 hours, Margate Police Department was notified that the body of a male found was found deceased in the canal on the east side of 1000 NSR7. Margate Police and Fire Rescue personnel secured the area, and then removed the body. Detectives from Margate Criminal Investigations Division and the Broward County Medical Examiners Office were called to the scene to conduct the investigation. The body found in the canal has not yet been positively identified. Victim(s): Identities pending next of kin notification PIO: Detective Lori Eller, (954) ext.445. Release Date: February 26, 2013 Case: On Monday, February 25, 2013, at approximately 8:54 p.m., a traffic crash fatality occurred at the intersection of Rock Island Road and Holiday Springs Boulevard. A 2004 Toyota Corolla was traveling west through the intersection when it collided with a 2004 Honda Odyssey traveling south on Rock Island Road. Two passengers of the Toyota Corolla were pronounced deceased at the scene by Margate Fire Rescue. The driver and front seat passenger were taken to North Broward Medical Center in serious condition. Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver and three passengers of the Honda Odyssey were taken to Northwest Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the traffic crash is still under investigation. She is currently listed in extreme critical condition at North Broward Hospital. The passengers in her car have been identified as Dorothy Frankel (88) of Margate, listed in critical condition at North Broward Hospital, Roslyn Weiss (82) of Margate, pronounced deceased at the scene, and Ettie Silberman (91) of Margate, also pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the 2004 Honda Odyssey has been identified as Angela Felter (33) of Tamarac. The passengers in her vehicle were identified as children ages 14, 7 and 6 years of age. The children s relationship to the driver is undetermined at this time. All four occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
