1 Communications Program 2018 Global Communication Practice Global Communication Short Course The University of offers you a unique opportunity to explore aspects of Australia's communication industry, its value and approaches of effective communication and its role in social, political, corporate and economic contexts. The program explores the theories and practice of diverse communication practice as it relates to the changing concepts of media industries and audiences; political communication and public affairs; public relations; corporate communication including integrated marketing communication and advertising; social movements and advocacy, events and campaigns. Global Communication Practice (Part A) Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this unit, students will: o Demonstrate reflexivity and clear communication o Identify and research a topical issue relating to global communications principles and practice and apply creative and critical problem solving methods o Convey analysis and research in high quality written and oral expression in different multimedia formats Assessment items: (both must be submitted prior to commencement of the study tour) 1. Research proposal (50%) 2,000wds 2. Research presentation (video blog) (50%) 2. Global Communication Practice (Part B) Learning Outcomes: o Have a thorough understanding of key issues in Australian communication practice, and an appreciation of relevant social and cultural considerations o Develop critical and strategic thinking and express this in both oral and written form with confidence and clarity; actively listen and respond to the ideas of others; create and present new ideas o Demonstrate a capacity to work with others, respect for personal differences, independence of thought, and confidence to challenge existing ideas Assessment items: i. Research Report (50%) 3,500 wds Program Sample Itinerary * Day/Date Day 1: Monday, 11th June 2018: Arrive in - Australia Day 2: Tuesday, 12th June 2018: Day 3: Wednesday, 13th June 2018: Day 4: Thursday, 14th June 2018: Day 5: Friday, 15th June 2018: Day 6: Saturday, 16th June 2018: Day 7: Sunday, 17th June 2018: - Activity Morning: Arrive in. Afternoon: Group meeting at 2pm at accommodation meeting point. familiarisation tour of, and introduction workshop Evening: Harbour Cruise, afterwards we head to dinner at a local restaurant. Morning: Industry visit in Afternoon: Free afternoon and evening to explore. Morning: Second industry visit in Afternoon: guided tour to step back into s Colonial History & Heritage Morning: Seminar/workshop 1 (3 hours). Afternoon: Third industry visit in Morning: Fourth industry visit Afternoon: After lunch there is some free time for group discussions of research projects, progress of journals, reflections on media visits and personal time.
