Lions 202L News and Views Week Commencing 8th August ISSUE 600 Like us on facebook/noozletta Please address all items to For all back issues and archived Noozletta s see Greetings fellow Lions. Quiet week this week so I hope you all are getting through the cold winter ok. I thought this little humorous piece observing people like potatoes was a bit of a giggle thanks to South Hamilton Lioness Club for sending it in with their club bulletin if you have any jokes, riddles or funny items please send them in, I also enjoy getting club bulletins and keeping up with what clubs are doing. Start the Week with a Smile on Your Dial PEOPLE ARE LIKE POTATOES! Some people never seem motivated to participate, but are content to watch others. They are called Speck Taters Some are always looking to cause problems, and really get under your skin. They are called Aggie Taters There are those who always say they will, but somehow they never get round to doing... We call them Hezzi Taters Some folk spend a lot of time sitting and peering at their gardens. They are called Medi Taters And there are those that try to maximize their crop yields while reducing expenses. We call them Compu Taters Thanks Have a great Week ED. Wendy 1
The Jungle Drums Come hear the drums echo in the night African Proverb Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far. Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) Lions around the world are united by a great spirit of giving and dedication to helping others. As the official charitable organisation of Lions Clubs International, a leading humanitarian organisation, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) supports Lions compassionate works by providing grant funding for their local and global humanitarian efforts. Donations from 1.4+ million Lions in 210 countries and geographic areas provide the vast majority of the revenue received by LCIF, making the Foundation a leading humanitarian organisation. Lions know their donations matter and that funds entrusted to LCIF will support initiatives that impact communities and change lives. I urge Clubs to please keep supporting LCIF. International Convention Japan. During the course of the Convention, every District Governor was given banner with the Lions Logo. International President Bob Corlew has asked that every member in the District to sign this banner. District Governor Elects, will then take the banner to Chicago, where all the banners will be placed together. District 202L s banner left from our Cabinet meeting yesterday, currently with Zone 1. Please sign the banner at your various meetings. Lion s Safety Action Plan. Living in New Zealand, I am sure you are all aware of Health and Safety. As Lions, we to must be aware of Health and Safety. We are constantly out in the community conducting various projects. We must at all times protect the public, and ourselves. There is a form on page 9 of the current Lions Magazine, which is required to be completed for all projects. Please, I urge project Co-coordinators to complete this form prior to the event. The form can be downloaded from the Lions Clubs Website: 2
Make a Difference Sponsor a Leo Club Connections to young people can bring new energy to a Lions club and increase Lions visibility in the community. Through Leo club sponsorship, Lions have a unique opportunity to mentor potential community leaders and recruit future Lions club members. Learn more about sponsoring a Leo club in the Leos section of our Member Centre. I thank you all for the great work you are all doing. I look forward to meeting everyone, as my Club visits have begun. Grateful thanks to the members of the Bethlehem/Te Puna Lions Club, who are accompanying me. "Awaken the Lion Within You" Have a great week, take care. Stu Gray (District Governor). Prior warning for District Awards With the passing of our Immediate Past District Governor Jim Towersey, I have been given what would've been Jim's responsibilities as IPDG - that of Lions Banking Trustee and the District Awards. I have already sent out the Club Excellence Nomination form to clubs, but will be sending out again as a reminder, as the closing date is to be in to LCI by 31st August so time is running out. I will also give you a list of the district awards available - their closing date is 30th September. Paula McWha Global Membership Team Leader 3
Margaret Gunter reports: LION TAILS -OUT & ABOUT- Katikati Lions Steptoe s Garage Sale and Auction - a roaring success Once again a very successful Steptoe s Garage Sale & Auction was held at the Katikati Memorial Hall on Saturday the 30th July. A large number of people from near and far came along to snap up the bargains to be had in the furniture, bedding, tools, electrical goods, books, bric a brac and outdoor goods. The final figure raised in excess of $13,500, which is a very pleasing result. The Club is happy to report that of all the goods donated by the local community that had filled our six (6) 40-foot shipping containers and a double garage and carport, we only returned 1 truck load of goods. The funds raised from the day will all be used to fund Lions Projects for the local community. We wish to thank the members of the community who donated the goods for sale, the members of the Katikati Football Club who provided the muscle over the 2 days of setting up prior to the day, the local couple who loaned us the truck to cart the goods to the hall and several members of the community who came in and helped us set up and sell over the 3 days. Tokoroa City Lions warm up chopping wood this winter Lion Don Hoseason sold on lions How much wood would a Lion chop, if a Lion could chop wood (say this fast without a drink in hand). On the saw - Rob Moot 4
Matamata Lions Mooo-ving along Collecting Casualty Calves This is a busy time of year for many Lions clubs which rely on casualty calf collection for a large part of their annual income. We are now moving into month 2 of our rounds this year so look out for the Matamata Lions truck in the local area, going out 6 days a week. 5
