TeArohaMountain LynneMarie Gray does not exist Please fixes to Reporoa Lions Massive donation to Waikato BOP Cancer Society s Lions Lodge Reporoa Lions Club made its visit by District Governor Sara a very special evening by using the occasion to present the proceeds from its project to raise funds for the Cancer Society Lions Lodge. At this time the project raised $47,000 to go with the $12,900 donated previously. The project involved establishing The Reporoa Lions Club Charitable Trust as a client of most of the major freezing companies and farmers then donated a cull cow which was tagged with a special Reporoa Lions Club tag and the freezing works paid the club directly. The response from our district has been overwhelming with in excess of 50 cows donated to date and some $10,000 given in cash or product from those who did not have stock available to process. The project was the idea of Lion Paul Gibson who along with a small team of helpers undertook the majority of the work involved liaising with the companies and canvassing donor farmers. It is hoped that now the infrastructure is in place other clubs may take up the challenge and try a similar approach to farmers throughout the greater Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. To recognise the dedication and hard work done by Paul in all aspects of Reporoa Lions he was surprised with being presented with a Melvin Jones Fellowship. This year it will be on the 7th October at the Katikati Memoral Hall. Lions will cook and serve a full 'Sunday Lunch' complete with pre luncheon drinks and followed by ln house entertainment The only qualification is that you live alone. Approx 150 people will turn up. Lions members will phone people who they know live alone and will supply transport for those that need it Katikati Lions Publicity Officer John Groves Lions Christmas Parade This year the Lions Christmas Parade will be held on 8th December at 3pm from Earle Drive Katikati followed by Santa In The Park (Moore Parke) Katikati Lions Publicity Officer John Groves From the DG s Desk Weekly Jottings: Sunshine, frosts, blossom, and a week to go till the clocks spring forward. The birds and the bees (yes, there are still some bees around) are busy in the garden so at last Spring must be here. Haven t had much time to notice as I ve been around the clubs this week starting with Rotorua East who have taken up the challenge and are undertaking the Club Excellence Process; up with the birds for the Tauranga City Sunrise Club next morning, then Katikati-my own club and good to be part of the club for an evening, Te Aroha Mountain Lions next evening and then next day the Reporoa Lions Club. I am truly amazed at the combined amount these clubs are doing for their communities too much to mention here, but rest assured, the Dedication to Service truly lives up to President Wayne s Theme of In A World of Service. Of special note is the Reporoa Club further details in Noozletta not only did they donate $47,000 to the Cancer Society Lions Lodge, for which a huge thank you, but also they have recently established the Alpha Leos Club of Reporoa College just awaiting its Charter which is in transit from LCI. I had the pleasure of visiting the College and meeting with a number of the students have a look at their Facebook Page they have been hard at work raising funds for a whole host of causes. Finally, today has been one of celebration in attending the Tokoroa Host 50 th Charter Anniversary Luncheon with much catching up and reminiscences of past and present members. Another dedicated club who has contributed hugely to their community over the past 50 years and most importantly enjoys tremendous fellowship and fun. The list of activities is long, varied and full and epitomises the true essence of We Serve. Congratulations Tokoroa Host Lions Club. Global Service Action Campaign October-December During October, we invite you and your club to join Lions around the world to lead the fight against blindness. Help us raise awareness of the importance of healthy connection with World Sight Day, recognized each October. Or, organize projects throughout the month that mobilize your club members to make a difference in your community by helping those who live with blindness and visual impairment. See link attached or go to LCI website Global Service Action Campaign for further information. Shakeout New Zealand. On Wednesday 26 September at 9.26am, New Zealand s first ever national earthquake drill will take place. 3 The asset register is a controlled document listing the equipment owned by District. Your help is needed, - please ring me or send me an if you have any info about the whereabouts of the above items hajo.lotz@ztra.co.nz District 202L Asset Registrar Jorgen Lotz, Ken Lusby coming this way for Cure Kids Ken Lusby has been walking the long white line of the South Island for almost four weeks, raising money for Cure Kids in every town he travels through. His mission, which covers 59 towns in 76 days, is to walk the length of New Zealand and raise $100,000 in the process - and so far, everything has gone to plan. Yesterday, Ashburton Mayor Angus McKay greeted Mr Lusby and his support crew of John Neal and Tony Brown, as they entered the Tinwald township and walked to the council offices. Mr Lusby and his crew were hosted in Ashburton and gifted dinner by a local restaurant last night, before continuing their journey early this morning. "The support has been amazing," Mr Lusby said. "I am spoilt everywhere I go, people look after me and for that I can't thank them enough. "This is a personal challenge of mine that I am completing to help a great cause and when I set my mind to something, I do it." Mr Lusby, who owns Take Note in Fielding, has four pairs of shoes and 30 pairs of socks for his trip all sponsored by Adidas. He began the journey on August 30, leaving from Stewart Island, and plans to arrive in Cape Reinga on November 13, before his 60th birthday turns up next month. And less than a month into his trip, he has found one dominating feature of the South Island. "I've been amazed at how many straight stretches of road there are down here, quite incredible really. "I have been walking the long white line for a while now and the road just keeps going... I'm feeling good about it all though and I'm well on track," Mr Lusby said. "People have said to me, 'well Ken, wait until you hit the Canterbury plains', so that should be an interesting one." Mr Lusby will continue through to Rolleston today, before heading to Christchurch, Cheviot, Kaikoura, Clarence, Ward, Seddon, Blenheim and Wellington, totalling almost 1000kms and rounding out his South Island stretch. He will then complete the North Island trek of more than 1000kms, before returning home to his wife Rosemary in Palmerston North. "My wife is the real champion here... all the work she has done has been phenomenal and I owe so much thanks to her. "She appreciates the cause and we want to do our bit to help everyone who has supported this has been incredible," he said. *To donate to Cure Kids, visit fundraiseonline.co.nz/kenlusby or go to the Facebook page Walking NZ to Cure Kids.
