9 (3) To decide on any resolution which may be duly submitted to the meeting. At a Biennial General Meeting, the same to be held at the same time as the Society s Biennial Conference. The association shall elect a Council of the following officers namely a President, Vice President, and six full members including the Immediate Past President of the Society. Elected Council members shall hold the office until retirement or removal from office or election of successors to the office. 10 SPEAKER PROFILE Dr William H Robinson Technical Director, B&G Equipment Company Bill has a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. with majors in biology and entomology, and minors in geology, meteorology, and botany. He was a Professor and Director of the Urban Pest Control Research Centre at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Va Tech) for about 30 years. For 16 years he was a Visiting Professor and Director of the urban Entomology Centre at Zhejiang Agricultural University in Hangzhou, China. Along with 20 graduate and post-doctoral students he has conducted and published research on cockroaches, carpenter ants, dust mites, fleas, flies (phorids), termites, wood-infesting beetles, insecticide resistance, wood protection, and insecticide application technology, and turf pests. He has written several books on urban entomology and a series of training manuals for service technicians. He is Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Conference on Urban Pests. He has been Technical Director of B&G Equipment for 15 years. Kathryn Wealthall Quality Assurance Manager Griffin s Foods Ltd Kathryn has 18 years experience in quality assurance, the majority of that time in FMCG. Prior to this, Kathryn completed a B. Tech (Food Tech) from Massey University, and began professional life as a Microbiology Technician at an Anchor plant in the Waikato. Following the obligatory overseas experience, Kathryn came back to NZ and started work in the pharmaceutical industry in quality assurance. A return to food manufacturing followed, with 6 years at Tasti Products Ltd and 2 at Coca-Cola Amatil, both as Quality Manager. For the last 3 years Kathryn has been QA Manager at Griffin s Foods Ltd, at the Wiri plant. Page 10 PMANZ

11 John Keall Operations Manager Pest & Plant Health Labs Auckland & Lincoln, AsureQuality John is a New Zealander with over 30 years experience in entomology, urban pest management, plant health and border diagnostics, and laboratory management. He started his career with the Ministry of Agriculture as an entomology technician in the mid 1970 s, moved on to a role as an inspection officer with the Agriculture Quarantine Service in Auckland, before heading overseas. While living in the UK he was an Accounts Manager and Field Biologist for National Pest Control, based in Cardiff, South Wales. This involved sales management of a regional client base and sales to new clients, and carrying out senior technical audits for major clients throughout South Wales and western England. Key clients included Terry s Suchard, Whitbread Beer Co, 3M United Kingdom, Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals, Anchor Foods (now Fonterra), Robertson s Jams and Sun Valley Poultry. He is currently the Operations Manager, Pest & Plant Health Laboratories, AsureQuality, and based in Auckland, NZ. This business operating group comprises 2 units the Invertebrate Pest Laboratory in Auckland, and the Plant Health Laboratory in Lincoln. The group includes 12 scientists, analysts and technicians, and includes the disciplines of entomology, nematology, mycology, bacteriology and virology. The OM role requires financial, personnel technical management for both units. In Auckland the role also involves full participation in invertebrate diagnostics, including pests of imported and export fresh produce, food contaminant pests, invertebrate containment operation, and quality system management. In 2006, under John s direction, the AsureQuality Pest Laboratory sought IANZ accreditation to the international lab standard ISO 17025, and was the first entomology laboratory in NZ to gain that accreditation, which it still retains today. 12 Philippa Gibson Technical Leader, High Hazards and Specialist Services, WorkSafe New Zealand Philippa is a Technical Leader with WorkSafe NZ. She specialises in occupational health and occupational hygiene. She is a Health and Safety Inspector and Hazardous Substances Enforcement Officer. In her role she provides technical support for WorkSafe, inspectors and members of the public or industry. She is a certified occupational hygienist with both the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (CIH) and the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (COH) and a board member of the International Occupational Hygiene Association. She is also a reservist in the RNZAF working in the Directorate of Air Force Safety and Health (DASH). Derek Miller President of New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society Derek has been an occupational hygienist with the Royal New Zealand Air Force since Prior to his current role he worked in the combined field of both environmental health and occupational hygiene for 22 years with the Royal Air Force. During this period he was involved in conducting pest control management programmes throughout Europe, Americas, Middle East and Mediterranean regions Derek is a member of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene and is the current President of the NZ Occupational Hygiene Society as well a member of the leadership team for HASANZ. 13 Keith Farrow Training Manager, Rapid Solutions Keith holds a Bachelor of Science, a Diploma of Agricultural Entomology, a Diploma in Education, and a Certificate IV in Asset Maintenance (Pest Management) and a Diploma in Workplace Training & Assessment. He began his career with WA Flick working in Fumigation and then moving into domestic and commercial pest management. After working as a technician for some years Keith was transferred to Flick Hawaii for 12 months where he trained Flick s technical staff in all facets of pest management and gained US qualifications in pest management from Hawaii University. Upon his return to Australia, Keith assumed various roles with Flick in NSW prior to being promoted to Queensland State Technical Sales Manager in Brisbane. Changes at Flick saw Keith seek a new direction in his career and he joined Dow AgroSciences as their NSW Specialty Products Manager. Keith is now a part of the Rapid/Pacific International Training crew. He has been involved in the development of their training programs including the new (Australian) On-line program. As a result of this training role he is a regular visitor to New Zealand, and has been involved with the Pest Network workshop program for several years. Outside of his training commitments Keith has been involved on two Australian standards and is currently a member of the working parties for two industry codes of practice; Bed Bugs and Prior to purchase timber pest inspections.
