2 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the 2016 Pomo District Annual Camporee, The Council Rises Up! Along with the opportunity to show your Scout Skills, there will be special recognition for best patrol flag, best patrol theme dress, and best patrol yell. The staff welcomes you and hopes you have a great weekend. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mike Bell at or mikebell055@comcast.net. CODE OF CONDUCT Lake Sonoma has offered the use of their facilities-let s show our appreciation by respecting the site and the rules. Please make sure all of your scouts are aware of these rules. Scouts found violating these rules may be sent home. PROGRAM Competition levels: Webelos BB-8 s; Scout-2 nd Class - X-Wing Fighter; 1 st Class-Eagle Jedi. Scoring of the events will be with emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship of the patrol along with knowledge of the Scout skill of that particular event. Some events will be athletic only style events. Uniform: Class A uniform is required for certain activities (please see schedule) otherwise patrols may wear appropriate Class B uniform keeping with the spirit of Scouting or The Star Wars The Council Rises Up theme of the weekend. Any individual/patrol/unit members in dress not within the ideals of the Scouting program will be asked to change. Make sure that the members of your patrol carry water throughout the day. There will be places to refill your tankards (with water). NO PETS! We all love our animals, but unfortunately we may not bring them to this event. As in the past, Order of Arrow (OA) call out will take place at the end of the campfire. Boy Scout troops should contact records@orca194.org to coordinate their OA unit elections before the Camporee. We encourage you to register early due to the online registration. You will register by Troop, not by patrols, however, only patrols will be allowed to compete in Saturday events. Each troop must bring to the Camporee and turn in at registration, a roster of each Scout and Adult attending the event; a current medical form (part A & B Version 2014) AND a Participant Release Form for each Scout and Adult in attendance. Please contact Tracy Good at goodscouter@sbcglobal.net with any questions on registration. Returning again will be the Scoutmaster/ASM Chili Cook-off and the SPL Cornbread Bake-off. Each troop can enter one adult leader and one youth leader to compete. Sign up at the Friday crackerbarrel. Cooking begins at 9:30 am, and ends at 12:00 noon with judging by specially chosen Chili & Cornbread experts. See page 6 for more info. CHECK-IN and OUT Upon arrival (see page 3 for schedule), the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader must report directly to the registration area and check-in. Tour Plans (only for Units NOT from Sonoma County), medical forms, participation release forms, the troop roster including all Scouts & Adults, and any final payments must be presented at check-in. Also at check-in, each patrol will need to sign up for the event competition. Be prepared to provide the patrol name, the competition level and the number of Scouts in the patrol. The pass-cards will be of different colors for each competition level (BB-8, X-Wing Fighter & Jedi), and will have a unique number. A curfew of 10 p.m. will be strictly enforced each night. The Camping committee requests all Senior Patrol Leaders and their Scoutmaster to make sure that their boys are getting good night's sleep and not disturbing their neighbors after 10 p.m. Additionally, leaders should make sure that their boys are not leaving their campsite. Please plan to exit the campsite and check out no later than 11am on Sunday. LOCATION You must not scavenge materials from the property or dig any holes. A Unit Campsite Inspection will be conducted on Saturday and awards (1st, 2nd and 3rd) will be presented at the Saturday night campfire. Inspections will take place while patrols are at their activities. Please see Troop Campsite Inspection form in this packet. Ribbons will be awarded for Starship Docks (Campsite Gateways) which best follow the Star Wars theme. 6 Commonly Asked Questions If you ve never been to a Camporee, this summary will be useful to you. New campers are certainly welcome! We re glad you re considering coming to the 2016 Pomo District Camporee! What is a Camporee? A Camporee is a camping event with boys from many Scout Troops and Webelos Packs/Dens. Each patrol/den camps with its Troop or Pack/Den and competes in different events using their scout skills, joining together for flag ceremonies and campfire. What is a Cracker Barrel? The Cracker Barrel is a meeting of the leaders from each unit--especially Scoutmasters, Webelos Den Leaders and Senior Patrol Leaders--that is held the Friday evening of Camporee. Updated Camporee information and questions will be answered. Please share this information with your patrols/dens. How does the competition work? Scouts sign up in patrols. Units with few boys can be combined with other units into competition patrols/dens. There are three levels of competition: 1 st yr Webelos; (BB-8); Scout-Second Class (X-Wing Fighters); and First Class-Eagle (Jedi s). There are 14 different events for Boy Scout Patrols, and 14 for Webelos Dens. Each patrol/den need to complete the required 6 events, as well as 6 of their favorite events to compete in. The events will be divided so that in the morning, the even numbered pass-cards will compete in the even numbered events and the odd numbered pass-cards will complete in the odd numbered events. In the afternoon they will switch. We encourage each troop & patrol to get in the spirit of the theme, The Council Rises Up. Show your spirit with your Starship Docks (Troop gateways), patrol outfits, flag and yell. 1st, 2nd and 3 rd place ribbons are awarded in each level for each event, as well as the top three overall scores for the Jedi Masters, the top three spirit awards for the Chewbaccas and the top three scores for the Starship Docks. When do we check in or check out? Check in is Friday night or Saturday morning. All units should be pre-registered using online registration and on arrival be prepared to turn in a roster with a complete list of all youth and adults attending the camporee; their Participant Release of Liability & Special Activities Consent Forms; and current (2014) Medical forms, part A & B. Any unpaid fees are due at check in. You will not need to bring a tour plan unless your troop is from outside of Sonoma County. any registration questions to Tracy Good at goodscouter@sbcglobal.net. When you are ready to check out starting at 10 AM on Sunday, a staff member will check your campsite for cleanliness, collect your evaluations, return your medicals and issue the Camporee patches. Do we have to camp? No. We recommend that boys camp at least one night to learn about scout camping, but it is not required. The fee however is the same for all participants. What are the requirements for Webelos to camp overnight? Each Webelos Den is encouraged to camp overnight under the supervision of a trained Webelos leader while adhering to B.S.A. health and safety and youth protection guidelines. All Webelos Dens need to bring their own food, and do their own cooking unless they have been invited to eat with a Boy Scout Troop. There will be an assigned area for the Webelos to camp. How do we handle food? Each unit brings its own food. You won t need to carry your gear very far. You may need to make several trips if you re not set up for backpacking. You may use hand-trucks, carts, etc. for transporting gear, but personal vehicles will remain in the parking area at all times. Please do not bring disposable paper plates, cups and silverware. Each person should bring mess kits and wash up in the unit site. How is the Scoutmaster Chili Cook-off & SPL Cornbread Cook-off run? We invite a Scouter from each unit to come prepared to compete in our Chili Cook-off and a Youth Leader from each unit to come prepared to compete in our Dutch oven Cornbread cook-off. All cooking must be done in competition area. You will need to bring your all of your own ingredients/pots/stoves/cooking equipment. We will have hot coals and a special area set up for you. The cook-off begins at 9:30 am and the judging will be at noon! Further Questions? Just ask Mike Bell at or mikebell055@comcast.net 2016 Boy Scout Registration Packet.draft.doc Page 6 of 9 Camporee 2016
