This year we will be gathering the district

3 Together at camp wakpominee, the home camp for so many of our troops. This year the camporee is being planned and run by a committee made up of Troops in the greater glens falls area, troops 2,4,6 and 16. Events and competitions: Rifle Range- the rifle range will be open and scores kept for the best marksman at the camporee. Archery Range- the archery range will be open and again scores will be kept and the best score will be recognized. Team Building at the COPE area-a series of fun team building games will be available and led by a volunteer fishing merit badge-the fishing shed will be open and staffed by a fishing merit badge counselor who will be available GPS SCAVENGER HUnt-bring along your GPS and participate in the GPS Scavenger Hunt. You will need your own device, and remember cellular phone service is not always reliable up at Camp Wakpominee Dutch oven deserts Contest-a contest for the best most delicious and original dutch oven desert will be judged by world famous desert Testing Team of BILL Squared- Mr. Bill McMahon and Mr. Bill Burrows who have between them over 100 years experience in eating deserts!!!! mountain bike Rodeo-an area will be set up at the cub day camp area with ramps and obstacles. Scouts and scouters are asked to bring their own helmets and are welcomed to bring their own bikes. Bikes will be inspected by staff volunteers. orienteering-an orienteering course will be set up at camp wakpominee, the fastest time through the course will be recognized. search and rescue-volunteers will conduct an actual supervised search for a victim.

4 hug a tree-volunteers from the Hug-a-tree program will be there to run their unique program Outdoor ethics-master educators will be there running awareness activities and working with troops to complete requirements for both the outdoor ethics awareness award and the Outdoor ethics in action award. Outdoor Ethics Awareness Award Boy Scouts and Scouters interested in learning more about outdoor ethics and Leave No Trace should begin by exploring the Outdoor Ethics Awareness Award. The requirements are as follows: 1. Recite from memory and explain the meaning of the Outdoor Code. 2. Watch the National Park Service Leave No Trace video. It s on the right side of the page. 3. Complete the Leave No Trace online youth course. Print the certificate. 4. Earn the Tread Lightly! online course certificate. Print the certificate when you are done. 5. Participate in an outdoor ethics course, workshop, or training activity facilitated by a person who has completed the BSA outdoor ethics orientation course or is a BSA outdoor ethics trainer or master. Boy Scout Action Award Requirements 1. Do the following: 1. Unless already completed, earn the Outdoor Ethics Awareness Award. 2. Complete the BSA outdoor ethics orientation course. 3. Explain how each of the four points of the Outdoor Code guides your actions when outdoors. 2. Do the following: 1. Read Chapter 7 of the Boy Scout Handbook on Leave No Trace. 2. Teach a skill related to the Outdoor Code or Leave No Trace to another Scout in your troop or another Scouting unit. 3. Complete one of the following: 1. Successfully complete a term as your troop Leave No Trace Trainer.

5 2. Participate in an outing that emphasizes the complete set of Leave No Trace or relevant Tread Lightly! principles. All members of the troop participating in the outing should use the outdoor ethics and the specific skills needed to minimize impacts from their use of the outdoors. 4. Follow the Outdoor Code, Leave No Trace, and Tread Lightly! principles on three outings. Write a paragraph on each outing explaining how you followed the Outdoor Code, Leave No Trace, and Tread Lightly! Share it with your unit leader or an individual who has completed the BSA outdoor ethics orientation course. 5. On a troop outing, help your troop on a service activity that addresses recreational impacts related to the type of outing. The project should be approved in advance by the landowner or land manager and lead to permanent or long-term improvements. 6. Participate in a report at a court of honor or similar family event on the service activity in Requirement 5. Scouter Action Award Requirements 1. Do the following: 1. Earn the Outdoor Ethics Awareness Award. 2. Complete the BSA outdoor ethics orientation course. 3. Discuss with your troop how each of the four points of the Outdoor Code guides your actions when outdoors. 2. Read the North American Skills & Ethics booklet to learn about the principles of Leave No Trace. Review the principles of Tread Lightly! Review Chapter 7 of the Boy Scout Handbook and Fieldbook chapters about Leave No Trace, using stoves and campfires, hygiene and waste disposal, and traveling and camping in special environments. 3. Facilitate your troop s leadership in planning and leading an outing that emphasizes the complete set of Leave No Trace or Tread Lightly! principles. All members of the troop participating in the outing should use outdoor ethics and the specific skills to minimize impacts from their use of the outdoors. 4. Help plan and participate in at least three outings where your troop can follow the Outdoor Code and practice the principles of Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly! Facilitate a discussion at the end of the outings. 5. Assist your unit in arranging for a service project emphasizing outdoor ethics with a local landowner or land manager. The project must be approved by the landowner or land manager in advance. Participate in that project. The project should lead to permanent or long-term improvements. 6. Make, or facilitate youth in making, a presentation at a roundtable or similar gathering about what your troop did for Requirement Help at least three Boy Scouts earn the youth Outdoor Ethics Action Award. Things we are able to get completed this weekend will be signed off this weekend. Mr McMahon will follow up with troop leadership on completing the requirements.

6 Leave no trace cup-the usual standards for awarding the cup will apply and a winner will be announced at our campfire. Forestry activities-spend time among the trees. Knock off some requirements have some fun. Service project aspect-in an effort to instill an aspect of ownership in both camp wakpominee and the district activities program, opportunities for service, consistent with scouting's outdoor ethics award programs service projects will be made available to all troops who are willing to give the time. Camping Units will be placed in the active sites both lean to sites and non lean to sites based on the number of attendees by the camporee staff. Trailers will be allowed in sites where possible or nearby if not possible. Health and safety Scout leaders will be required to have and keep available individual health records in the event of injury. Every person present at the camporee must have a health form. The health officer will be tom sears from troop 4. Here is his health and safety protocols : MEDICAL ATTENTION PROTOCOL BAND-AID INJURY (MINOR FIRST AID - NO NEED TO SEE MEDICAL OFFICER) A Band-Aid Injury is a very minor injury (scrape etc.) requiring only a band-aid. - Wash injury site with soap and water; apply a dab of antibiotic ointment; cover with a band-aid. Use your 1st Aid Kit. - Notify your

7 adult leader to confirm it is a minor injury. - NO NEED TO SEE THE MEDICAL OFFICER unless the adult leader deems necessary. OTHER THAN BAND-AID INJURY (REQUIRED TO SEE MEDICAL OFFICER) Other Than Band-Aid Injury must be evaluated by the Medical Officer. - If your adult leader deems the injury not severe, the injured person can walk to the medical area (if a Scout go with a buddy). - If the injury is determined to be severe by an adult leader, the injured person MUST stay where the injury occurred. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE INJURED PERSON. Send someone to the medical area to retrieve the Medical Officer. REMINDERS TICKS - THE TICKS ARE OUT. DURING BATHROOM BREAKS AND PRIOR TO LIGHTS OUT (TAPS) CHECK FOR TICKS; DO PERIODIC CHECKS ON ARMS AND LEGS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. USE REPELLANT AS NECESSARY DON T APPLY DIRECTLY TO SKIN AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON CONTAINER. SEE MEDICAL OFFICER IF A PROBLEM OCCURS. WATER & SNACK BAR - STAY HYDRATED!!! DRINKPLENTY OF WATER; NO ONE SHOULD BE WITHOUT A WATER BOTTLE. HAVE A SNACK ON HAND SO YOU DON T BONK-OUT.

9 10:00 Check out Campfire Program Saturday night s campfire will be a place where the scouts can do a skit if they choose too. We will also lead some songs for the entire camporee to sing. In addition to that, the night will end with callouts for scouts who have been elected into the Order of the Arrow during this year s election season. If patrols or troops choose to do something at the campfire, they must inform us at the Cracker Barrel Friday night so that we can schedule the program.
