2 Be Prepared To Lead Important Notes: 1.) Scoutmasters please review this entire packet with your SPL. The SPL should brief the Patrol Leadership Council. The PLC should ensure everyone follows these guidelines. 2.) This is private property; please remember that a Scout is Clean. There will be no trash cans or dumpsters. Each Troop is responsible for its own garbage. If you packed it in, pack it out. 3.) Campfires will be allowed. Please practice Leave No Trace principles. Remove the sod; dig a pit, save dirt and sod, when done with fire replace dirt and sod. Try to leave the area looking like it did before you had a fire. Firewood may be gathered from the surrounding area. Do not cut any standing trees. Only dead fall trees and limbs may be gathered. 4.) Limited water will be available. Please try to provide for as much of your own water needs as possible. 5.) Stay out of Deer blinds and tree stands. 6.) There will be five Porta Potties available, please use them. 7.) Each Troop will be asked to provide volunteers to help judge the events. Please list them on your registration form and have them attend the Friday night Scoutmaster SPL meeting. 8.) Registration deadline is September 28 th 2012

3 Be Prepared To Lead The purpose of this Camporee is for the Scouts to have fun and learn to work as a Patrol. To that end, the Scouts will be doing activities which require teamwork and leadership. Each patrol should carry their flag to the challenges so that it may be judged and be prepared to give their patrol yell. Each Scout shall have a bandana or piece of cloth suitable for use as a blind fold and a canteen or water bottle. The Bob Walton Spirit Award will be awarded to the Troop best exemplifying the 17 ideals of Scouting. There will be no other Troop awards. All other awards will be earned as a Patrol. Honor Patrol will be awarded to any patrol with a flag, patrol yell, and whose members cheerfully participate in a majority of the challenges. Scoring for the challenges will be based on leadership, teamwork, spirit, and cheerful participation. 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place ribbons will be awarded based on points earned in challenges, patrol campsite inspections, patrol flag judging, and unity. For the Saturday night Campfire each Patrol may enter a skit or song. These will need to be turned in, with a brief written description and length, at Friday night s Scoutmaster/SPL meeting. Skits and songs will be chosen to be performed based on originality and time available. Skits and songs with T.P.I. (total participant involvement) will be given special consideration. Since having them participate in Boy Scout events such as this strengthens recruitment of Webelos Scouts into Troops, Troops are encouraged to invite their feeder pack Webelos Dens to attend. Webelos from packs that don t feed a specific troop are encouraged to attend as well. All Webelos must, of course, have a parent or guardian in attendance with them and be properly supervised throughout Saturday. Webelos cannot camp overnight during the Camporee. Scouts are encouraged to not wear their field ( Class A ) uniforms during the challenges, but save them for the Saturday night campfire ceremony and Sunday morning church service. Wear an activity uniform ( Class B ) consisting of a T-shirt and green trousers or shorts (with belt of course) for the challenges.

5 General Information Bob Walton Spirit Award: This rotating plaque along with a ribbon will be awarded to the Unit exhibiting the most Scout Spirit and functioning best as a Unit. Your Troop does not have to win an event to win this award, but participation in all events is a requirement. Judges will also be assessing your Unit members spirit during all activities. Troops may also be judged by appearance of members at events. (Utility uniforms for events, Field uniforms for campfires and Church Service). Your Troop Scout Spirit must be noticeable, in the participation of your members as well as participation in all events and the campfire. This will be the last award presented after the Sunday morning church service. Visitors: Visitors are encouraged to attend the competitions and campfire ceremony. Troops should notify them of all applicable rules of Scouting that pertain to litter, smoking, alcohol, etc. Visitors should also be made aware that designated Patrol areas are off-limits to them unless they receive permission from Patrol leaders. Visitors must park in designated parking areas. Parking: Because of congestion in the campsites and surrounding roads all vehicles, after unloading, must be parked outside the campsite area in the designated parking area(s). Troop trailers and the towing vehicle may remain in the campsite. Speed limit throughout the Camporee area is 5 MPH. Leave No Trace: As it should be with all outdoor Scouting events, The Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace principles will be strictly enforced. Cutting or harvesting live plants / trees is strictly forbidden. Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are required at all times. No flip-flops, Crocs, or any other footwear that exposes any part of the foot will be allowed. Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms: Smoking at the Camporee is discouraged and the use of any tobacco product in front of any Scout is not allowed. Alcohol is forbidden at any Scouting event. No firearms are allowed at this event. Violators will be asked to leave

7 Registration Form To assist with Camporee activities each Troop will be asked to provide two adult volunteers or SPL/ASPL. The registration fee is $10 for each person attending the Camporee. 8 Directions to the Camporee: 1.) Take Hwy 77 N to Wausau ( approximately 33 miles north of the Panama City Mall) 2.) At the flashing light, in Wausau, turn left on Hwy 278(Pioneer RD) 3.) Go 2.8 miles to Bonnet Pond Rd turn left. 4.) Go 1.3 miles to Mud Hill RD turn right. 5.) In.3 miles take the right fork in the road. (disregard the Private property signs) 6.) Proceed.5 mile to big gray steel gate. 7.) Enter gate and close it behind you. 8.) Go straight ahead until you see registration tent. Map is not to scale. X marks the spot. x
