3 WELCOME! The theme for the 2016 Konza District Fall Camporee is Pirates of the Konza to celebrate that little known time of history when pirates roamed the Flint Hills. (OK not really, but just humor us on this one ) There will be events that test the skills and team work of your pirate crew (landlubbers call it a patrol). This camporee will be an opportunity for fun, fellowship, team work and to learn from other scouts. We encourage the integration of WEBELOS invited by troops into their scout patrols for the competition. TROOP REGISTRATION Troops may register for the Camporee online at A link is available on the Konza District section of the website. Payment with a credit card, debit card, or Electronic Check is required for online registration. Cost for the Camporee will be $15.00/Scout and $10.00/adult participant between the registration opening and 30 Sep, 11:59 PM. The cost will increase to $20.00/Scout and $15.00/adult after 30 Sep until online registration closes 7 Oct, 11:59 PM. There will be limited registration for individuals at the camporee site itself. Troops that fail to register and provide patrol info before 7 Oct deadline, may end up with patrols not participating in all events. Each registered scout, WEBELOS and adult will receive a 2016 Camporee Patch, however there is no guarantee of patches for those who register after the 7 Oct deadline. CHECK-IN and CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES Check-in will be 5:00-9:00 PM on Friday evening in the dining hall. Please have only the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader conduct the check-in. At Check-in bring: - The pirate crew roster sheets including WEBELOS with names - There will be no splitting/combining/changing of pirate crews after check-in - LNT/clean-up duty will be assigned District personnel will check the paid registration and collect fees/add names for additional participants. - A roster of all scouts and adults that are attending include WEBELOS and WEBELOS adults will be checked and compared with what the troop brought. CAMPING / PARKING Camping will be in the Upper Meadow. Entrance to Camp Brown will be through the south gate on Road Parking will be available in the parking lot by the south gate and all passenger vehicles must be parked in this parking lot. Trailers will be allowed in the upper meadow for the weekend. Depending on numbers, the trailer can stay connected to the tow vehicle. Check-out will begin at 9:30 A.M. Sunday. LIMITED checkouts will be allowed Saturday night after the campfire. Campsite LNT/clean-up duty and inspections will be conducted prior to checkout. Camporee patches are distributed at checkout. MEDICAL FORMS AND ASSISTANCE Each Troop should have up to date medical forms for each Scout and Adult Leader in attendance. Forms will not be collected by the Camporee staff, but should be available in the case of a medical emergency. SATURDAY EVENING CAMPFIRE There will be a district campfire at Waters Amphitheater on Saturday night at 8:00. At the beginning of the campfire we will do awards and recognitions. Following that each troop will conduct either a skit or a song, preferably ones that are pirate related. Non-pirate related skits can be modified to incorporate pirate speak. Verification of the skit or song will be by the SPL to the camporee staff before the campfire. RELIGIOUS SERVICES A camp wide all faiths religious service will be offered on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM at the chapel. The service will be organized and run by the Chaplain s Aides from participating troops. Chaplain s Aides will be asked to come to a preparation and planning meeting on Friday evening at 9:15 P.M.

4 MEALS Troops will provide their own meals for the weekend. No food will be provided by the Camporee staff. The Camporee will NOT have a trading post. There is no camp wide cracker barrel. FIRES IN CAMP All fires must be above ground fires ; or in approved fire ring. Troops should have fire barrels or some other device to contain their wood fires. For your safety, please abide by the following rules: 1. Fires will be built only in burn barrels within the campsites and must be attended at all times. 2. When striking camp, properly dispose of ashes and burned wood. COLD-DEAD-OUT. Surplus, unburned wood can be placed in nearby tree line away from the open area for future use. 3. Liquid fuels are not to be used to start wood fires. 4. Charcoal is permitted for use in cooking fires. The use of starting fuel to ignite charcoal is prohibited except under strict adult supervision. 5. Stoves and lanterns using alternate fuels such as white gas, kerosene or propane are permitted only under adult supervision. 6. Stoves and lanterns using alternate fuels will not be operated inside of tents or other enclosed areas. 7. Fires and lighted stoves or lanterns will not be left unattended in the campsite. 8. All fire lays will be properly and safely prepared by insuring that all burnable material is cleared from the area within a 5-feet radius of the edge of a fire barrel. TREE CUTTING 1. Tree cutting on the property is prohibited. 2. Use wood that is brought in or deadfall for wood that has been gathered to burn. WATER Potable water is available on site. Latrine facilities with showers are available for use. Practice leave no trace or YOU may be cleaning the latrine. CAMP HEADQUARTERS Camp Headquarters will be in the dining hall. The main purpose of the Camp Headquarters is this is where the scoring will be compiled by the camporee staff. Scouts and WEBELOS will not be allowed to congregate inside. Adults will be allowed limited access (coffee, recharging). NO youth will be allowed inside to recharge or hangout while the events are going on. 5 Fall Camporee 2016 Pirates of the Konza Events Event Instructions: Pirate Crew composition: Troops should combine individuals into pirate crews (patrols) mixing ability levels by SM discretion to include WEBELOS, but keeping patrol structure as much as possible. A minimum of 5 scouts/webelos and maximum of 10 scouts/webelos per pirate crew. WEBELOS will be participating in the same events as the Boy Scouts incorporated into their pirate crews. WEBELOS Adult Leaders need to accompany the participating WEBELOS but do not participate themselves. Adults: Accompany your pirate crews but do not participate, coach, lend a hand, guide, assist, or just help with the events. This is for the scouts to have fun and be scored, not the adults. Events: Pirate crews will compete in 6 different events to try to earn the most doubloons possible. The events will test each pirate crew s mental/physical capabilities, problem solving skills and ability to work as a team. Each pirate crew will be directed to start at a specific numbered station. The pirate crew will remain at the station for 45 minutes at which time they will move to the next numbered station. The events are designed to only handle a set number of pirates, so please make sure your pirate crew follows their assigned schedule and is on time. Scallywag Non-Cobbler Dutch Oven Dessert Contest: Pirate Crews are encouraged to create a dessert for entry into the Scallywag Non-Cobbler Dutch Oven Dessert Contest. Desserts must be made in a dutch oven at the camporee and must not be cobbler. Bonus doubloons are awarded for entering the contest with even more bonus doubloons going to the winners! Pirate Spirit: Bonus doubloons will be given to pirate crews who exhibit exceptional Pirate Spirt. Examples of Pirate Spirit are carrying a pirate flag, dressing in pirate gear and talking like pirates. Saturday Flag ceremony at 8:00 AM (arrive ready to go to first station) Morning station rotations will begin at 9:30 AM 3 stations in the morning (8:30-11:30 AM). 3 stations after lunch (1:30-4:30 PM). Prizes: Prizes will be awarded at the Saturday night campfire for pirate crews that earn the most doubloons during the day.

6 EVENTS Station 1: Buccaneer Bridge Building All hands hoay! Pirates will design a bridge to get landlubbers and their duffles on board. After designed, the bridge will be built with provided materials. Each bridge will be tested to see how many landlubbers (weights) the bridge can carry. The higher bridge capacity to self weight ratio, the higher the doubloons the pirate crew can earn. Station 2: Crow s Nest Egg Drop Pirates will design and build a vessel with materials provided to protect an egg. The egg will be dropped from a great height, so the vessel needs to be well thought out and constructed. Station 3: Walk the Plank Log Crossing Pirates will use all of their problem solving and team building skills to navigate their way across a dangerous river filled with alligators. There will be many limitations on the pirate crew s abilities so communication skills will be at a premium for this event. Station 4: Shiver Me Timbers Human Building Pirates will really need to think out of the box to design and construct objects using only themselves. Station 5: Man-O-War Kickball Pirate crews will play a game of kickball. All participating pirate crews get 5 doubloons with the winning team getting 10 doubloons. Station 6: Cannonball Catapults Enemy forces are approaching, so the pirates will need to use all of their team building skills to construct and fire a cannonball catapult with the materials provided. The more powerful and accurate the catapult, the more doubloons the pirate crew scores.
